276d9e82e0 mac80211: debugfs option to force TX status frames
At Technical University of Munich we use MAC 802.11 TX status frames to
perform several measurements in MAC 802.11 setups.

With ath based drivers this was possible until commit d94a461d7a
("ath9k: use ieee80211_tx_status_noskb where possible") as the driver
ignored the IEEE80211_TX_CTL_REQ_TX_STATUS flag and always delivered
tx_status frames. Since that commit, this behavior was changed and the
driver now adheres to IEEE80211_TX_CTL_REQ_TX_STATUS.

Due to performance reasons, IEEE80211_TX_CTL_REQ_TX_STATUS is not set for
data frames from interfaces in managed mode. Hence, frames that are sent
from a managed mode interface do never deliver tx_status frames. This
remains true even if a monitor mode interface (the measurement interface)
is added to the same ieee80211 physical device. Thus, there is no
possibility for receiving tx_status frames for frames sent on an interface
in managed mode, if the driver adheres to IEEE80211_TX_CTL_REQ_TX_STATUS.

In order to force delivery of tx_status frames for research and debugging
purposes, implement a debugfs option force_tx_status for ieee80211 physical
devices. When this option is set for a physical device,
IEEE80211_TX_CTL_REQ_TX_STATUS is enabled in all packets sent from that
device. This option can be set via
/sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/<dev>/force_tx_status. The default is disabled.

5dc8cdce1d mac80211/cfg80211: update bss channel on channel switch
FullMAC STAs have no way to update bss channel after CSA channel switch
completion. As a result, user-space tools may provide inconsistent
channel info. For instance, consider the following two commands:
$ sudo iw dev wlan0 link
$ sudo iw dev wlan0 info
The latter command gets channel info from the hardware, so most probably
its output will be correct. However the former command gets channel info
from scan cache, so its output will contain outdated channel info.
In fact, current bss channel info will not be updated until the
next [re-]connect.

Note that mac80211 STAs have a workaround for this, but it requires
access to internal cfg80211 data, see ieee80211_chswitch_work:

	/* XXX: shouldn't really modify cfg80211-owned data! */
	ifmgd->associated->channel = sdata->csa_chandef.chan;

This patch suggests to convert mac80211 workaround into cfg80211 behavior
and to update current bss channel in cfg80211_ch_switch_notify.

c2b17948fc mac80211: minstrel_ht: automatically calculate rate duration shift
A per-group shift was added to reduce the size of the per-rate transmit

78ad234152 mac80211: Honor SW_CRYPTO_CONTROL for unicast keys in AP VLAN mode
Restore SW_CRYPTO_CONTROL operation on AP_VLAN interfaces for unicast
keys, the original override was intended to be done for group keys as
those are treated specially by mac80211 and would always have been
rejected.

Now the situation is that AP_VLAN support must be enabled by the driver
if it can support it (meaning it can support software crypto GTK TX).

Thus, also simplify the code - if we get here with AP_VLAN and non-
pairwise key, software crypto must be used (driver doesn't know about
the interface) and can be used (driver must've advertised AP_VLAN if
it also uses SW_CRYPTO_CONTROL).

2b4a669802 mac80211: make ieee80211_schedule_txq schedule empty TXQs
Currently there is no way for the driver to signal to mac80211 that it should
schedule a TXQ even if there are no packets on the mac80211 part of that queue.
This is problematic if the driver has an internal retry queue to deal with
software A-MPDU retry.

This patch changes the behavior of ieee80211_schedule_txq to always schedule
the queue, as its only user (ath9k) seems to expect such behavior already:
it calls this function on tx status and on powersave wakeup whenever its
internal retry queue is not empty.

Also add an extra argument to ieee80211_return_txq to get the same behavior.

This fixes an issue on ath9k where tx queues with packets to retry (and no
new packets in mac80211) would not get serviced.

4856bfd230 mac80211: do not call driver wake_tx_queue op during reconfig
There are several scenarios in which mac80211 can call drv_wake_tx_queue
after ieee80211_restart_hw has been called and has not yet completed.
Driver private structs are considered uninitialized until mac80211 has
uploaded the vifs, stations and keys again, so using private tx queue
data during that time is not safe.

The driver can also not rely on drv_reconfig_complete to figure out when
it is safe to accept drv_wake_tx_queue calls again, because it is only
called after all tx queues are woken again.

To fix this, bail out early in drv_wake_tx_queue if local->in_reconfig
is set.

a350eccee5 net: remove 'fallback' argument from dev->ndo_select_queue()
After the previous patch, all the callers of ndo_select_queue()
provide as a 'fallback' argument netdev_pick_tx.
The only exceptions are nested calls to ndo_select_queue(),
which pass down the 'fallback' available in the current scope
- still netdev_pick_tx.

We can drop such argument and replace fallback() invocation with
netdev_pick_tx(). This avoids an indirect call per xmit packet
in some scenarios (TCP syn, UDP unconnected, XDP generic, pktgen)
with device drivers implementing such ndo. It also clean the code
a bit.

5c14a4d05f mac80211: Change default tx_sk_pacing_shift to 7
When we did the original tests for the optimal value of sk_pacing_shift, we
came up with 6 ms of buffering as the default. Sadly, 6 is not a power of
two, so when picking the shift value I erred on the size of less buffering
and picked 4 ms instead of 8. This was probably wrong; those 2 ms of extra
buffering makes a larger difference than I thought.

So, change the default pacing shift to 7, which corresponds to 8 ms of
buffering. The point of diminishing returns really kicks in after 8 ms, and
so having this as a default should cut down on the need for extensive
per-device testing and overrides needed in the drivers.

The netfilter conflicts were rather simple overlapping
changes.

However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.

On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks. Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.

What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU. I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

83e37e0bdd mac80211: Restore vif beacon interval if start ap fails
The starting of AP interface can fail due to invalid
beacon interval, which does not match the minimum gcd
requirement set by the wifi driver. In such case, the
beacon interval of that interface gets updated with
that invalid beacon interval.

The next time that interface is brought up in AP mode,
an interface combination check is performed and the
beacon interval is taken from the previously set value.

In a case where an invalid beacon interval, i.e. a beacon
interval value which does not satisfy the minimum gcd criteria
set by the driver, is set, all the subsequent trials to
bring that interface in AP mode will fail, even if the
subsequent trials have a valid beacon interval.

To avoid this, in case of a failure in bringing up an
interface in AP mode due to interface combination error,
the interface beacon interval which is stored in bss
conf, needs to be restored with the last working value
of beacon interval.

Tested on ath10k using WCN3990.

b4c3fbe636 mac80211: Use linked list instead of rhashtable walk for mesh tables
The mesh table code walks over hash tables for two purposes. First of
all it's used as part of a netlink dump process, but it is also used
for looking up entries to delete using criteria other than the hash
key.

The second purpose is directly contrary to the design specification
of rhashtable walks. It is only meant for use by netlink dumps.

This is because rhashtable is resizable and you cannot obtain a
stable walk over it during a resize process.

In fact mesh's use of rhashtable for dumping is bogus too. Rather
than using rhashtable walk's iterator to keep track of the current
position, it always converts the current position to an integer
which defeats the purpose of the iterator.

Therefore this patch converts all uses of rhashtable walk into a
simple linked list.

This patch also adds a new spin lock to protect the hash table
insertion/removal as well as the walk list modifications. In fact
the previous code was buggy as the removals can race with each
other, potentially resulting in a double-free.

6157ca0d6b mac80211: Fix Tx aggregation session tear down with ITXQs
When mac80211 requests the low level driver to stop an ongoing
Tx aggregation, the low level driver is expected to call
ieee80211_stop_tx_ba_cb_irqsafe() to indicate that it is ready
to stop the session. The callback in turn schedules a worker
to complete the session tear down, which in turn also handles
the relevant state for the intermediate Tx queue.

However, as this flow in asynchronous, the intermediate queue
should be stopped and not continue servicing frames, as in
such a case frames that are dequeued would be marked as part
of an aggregation, although the aggregation is already been
stopped.

Fix this by stopping the intermediate Tx queue, before
calling the low level driver to stop the Tx aggregation.

d9bb410888 mac80211: allow overriding HT STBC capabilities
Allow user to override STBC configuration for Rx and Tx spatial streams.
In practice RX/TX STBC settings can be modified using appropriate
options in wpa_supplicant configuration file:
  tx_stbc=-1..1
  rx_stbc=-1..3

This functionality has been added to wpa_supplicant in commit cdeea70f59d0.

In FullMAC case these STBC options are passed to drivers by cfg80211
connect callback in fields of cfg80211_connect_params structure.
However for mac80211 drivers, e.g. for mac80211_hwsim,
overrides for STBC settings are ignored.

The reason why RX/TX STBC capabilities are not modified for mac80211
drivers is as follows. All drivers need to specify supported HT/VHT
overrides explicitly: see ht_capa_mod_mask and vht_capa_mod_mask fields
of wiphy structure. Only supported overrides will be passed to drivers by
cfg80211_connect and cfg80211_mlme_assoc operations: see bitwise 'AND'
performed by cfg80211_oper_and_ht_capa and cfg80211_oper_and_vht_capa.

This commit adds RX/TX STBC HT capabilities to mac80211_ht_capa_mod_mask,
allowing their modifications, as well as applies requested STBC
modifications in function ieee80211_apply_htcap_overrides.

b4809e9484 mac80211: Add airtime accounting and scheduling to TXQs
This adds airtime accounting and scheduling to the mac80211 TXQ
scheduler. A new callback, ieee80211_sta_register_airtime(), is added
that drivers can call to report airtime usage for stations.

When airtime information is present, mac80211 will schedule TXQs
(through ieee80211_next_txq()) in a way that enforces airtime fairness
between active stations. This scheduling works the same way as the ath9k
in-driver airtime fairness scheduling. If no airtime usage is reported
by the driver, the scheduler will default to round-robin scheduling.

For drivers that don't control TXQ scheduling in software, a new API
function, ieee80211_txq_may_transmit(), is added which the driver can use
to check if the TXQ is eligible for transmission, or should be throttled to
enforce fairness. Calls to this function must also be enclosed in
ieee80211_txq_schedule_{start,end}() calls to ensure proper locking.

The API ieee80211_txq_may_transmit() also ensures that TXQ list will be
aligned aginst driver's own round-robin scheduler list. i.e it rotates
the TXQ list till it makes the requested node becomes the first entry
in TXQ list. Thus both the TXQ list and driver's list are in sync.

1866760096 mac80211: Add TXQ scheduling API
This adds an API to mac80211 to handle scheduling of TXQs. The interface
between driver and mac80211 for TXQ handling is changed by adding two new
functions: ieee80211_next_txq(), which will return the next TXQ to schedule
in the current round-robin rotation, and ieee80211_return_txq(), which the
driver uses to indicate that it has finished scheduling a TXQ (which will
then be put back in the scheduling rotation if it isn't empty).

The driver must call ieee80211_txq_schedule_start() at the start of each
scheduling session, and ieee80211_txq_schedule_end() at the end. The API
then guarantees that the same TXQ is not returned twice in the same
session (so a driver can loop on ieee80211_next_txq() without worrying
about breaking the loop.

Usage of the new API is optional, so drivers can be ported one at a time.
In this patch, the actual scheduling performed by mac80211 is simple
round-robin, but a subsequent commit adds airtime fairness awareness to the
scheduler.

a0dc02039a mac80211: fix miscounting of ttl-dropped frames
In ieee80211_rx_h_mesh_fwding, we increment the 'dropped_frames_ttl'
counter when we decrement the ttl to zero. For unicast frames
destined for other hosts, we stop processing the frame at that point.

For multicast frames, we do not rebroadcast it in this case, but we
do pass the frame up the stack to process it on this STA. That
doesn't match the usual definition of "dropped," so don't count
those as such.

With this change, something like `ping6 -i0.2 ff02::1%mesh0` from a

34b1e0e9ef mac80211: free skb fraglist before freeing the skb
mac80211 uses the frag list to build AMSDU. When freeing
the skb, it may not be really freed, since someone is still
holding a reference to it.
In that case, when TCP skb is being retransmitted, the
pointer to the frag list is being reused, while the data
in there is no longer valid.
Since we will never get frag list from the network stack,
as mac80211 doesn't advertise the capability, we can safely
free and nullify it before releasing the SKB.

efc38dd7d5 mac80211: fix radiotap vendor presence bitmap handling
Due to the alignment handling, it actually matters where in the code
we add the 4 bytes for the presence bitmap to the length; the first
field is the timestamp with 8 byte alignment so we need to add the
space for the extra vendor namespace presence bitmap *before* we do
any alignment for the fields.

Move the presence bitmap length accounting to the right place to fix

55ebd6e6c7 mac80211: propagate the support for TWT to the driver
TWT is a feature that was added in 11ah and enhanced in
11ax. There are two bits that need to be set if we want

a50e5fb8db mac80211: fix a kernel panic when TXing after TXQ teardown
Recently TXQ teardown was moved earlier in ieee80211_unregister_hw(),
to avoid a use-after-free of the netdev data. However, interfaces

f6c7f03f69 mac80211: fix deauth TX when we disconnect
The iTXQs stop/wake queue mechanism involves a whole bunch
of locks and this is probably why the call to
ieee80211_wake_txqs is deferred to a tasklet when called from
__ieee80211_wake_queue.

Another advantage of that is that ieee80211_wake_txqs might
call the wake_tx_queue() callback and then the driver may
call mac80211 which will call it back in the same context.

The bug I saw is that when we send a deauth frame as a
station we do:

flush(drop=1)
tx deauth
flush(drop=0)

While we flush we stop the queues and wake them up
immediately after we finished flushing. The problem here is
that the tasklet that de-facto enables the queue may not have
run until we send the deauth. Then the deauth frame is sent
to the driver (which is surprising by itself), but the driver
won't get anything useful from ieee80211_tx_dequeue because
the queue is stopped (or more precisely because
vif->txqs_stopped[0] is true).
Then the deauth is not sent. Later on, the tasklet will run,
but that'll be too late. We'll already have removed all the
vif etc...

Fix this by calling ieee80211_wake_txqs synchronously if we
are not waking up the queues from the driver (we check the
reason to determine that). This makes the code really
convoluted because we may call ieee80211_wake_txqs from
__ieee80211_wake_queue. The latter assumes that
queue_stop_reason_lock has been taken by the caller and
ieee80211_wake_txqs may release the lock to send the frames.

c8d10cbda1 mac80211: rewrite Kconfig text for mesh
Lubomir Rintel recently pointed out a dead link for o11s.org, and

so we can lose all of the text here and provide something that's a
little more helpful and accurate.

990d71846a mac80211: ignore NullFunc frames in the duplicate detection
NullFunc packets should never be duplicate just like

We saw a client that enters / exits power save with
NullFunc frames (and not with QoS-NullFunc) despite the
fact that the association supports HT.
This specific client also re-uses a non-zero sequence number

misalignment in the power save state.
Fix this by never consider a NullFunc frame as duplicate,

1ad0f1603a crypto: drop mask=CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC from 'cipher' tfm allocations
'cipher' algorithms (single block ciphers) are always synchronous, so
passing CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC in the mask to crypto_alloc_cipher() has no

efb543e61c mac80211: Extend SAE authentication in infra BSS STA mode
Previous implementation of SAE authentication in infrastructure BSS was
somewhat restricting and not exactly clean way of handling the two
auth() operations. This ended up removing and re-adding the STA entry
for the AP in the middle of authentication and also messing up
authentication state tracking through the sequence of four
Authentication frames. Furthermore, this did not work if the AP ended up
sending out SAE Confirm (auth trans #2) immediately after SAE Commit
(auth trans #1) before the station had time to transmit its SAE Confirm.

Clean up authentication state handling for the SAE case to allow two
rounds of auth() calls without dropping all state between those
operations. Track peer Confirmed status and mark authentication
completed only once both ends have confirmed.

ieee80211_mgd_auth() check for EBUSY cases is now handling only the
pending association (ifmgd->assoc_data) while all pending authentication
(ifmgd->auth_data) cases are allowed to proceed to allow user space to
start a new connection attempt from scratch even if the previously
requested authentication is still waiting completion. This is needed to
avoid making SAE error cases with retries take excessive amount of time
with no means for the user space to stop that (apart from setting the
netdev down).

As an extra bonus, the end of ieee80211_rx_mgmt_auth() can be cleaned up
to avoid the extra copy of the cfg80211_rx_mlme_mgmt() call for ongoing
SAE authentication since the new ieee80211_mark_sta_auth() helper
function can handle both completion of authentication and updates to the
STA entry under the same condition and there is no need to return from
the function between those operations.

This makes it easier to conditionally replace full allocation of

this check done so late in the function after having already completed
number of steps that cannot be used anyway in the error case.

Long/short preamble selection cannot be sampled separately, since it

I'm not really sure exactly _why_ I've been carrying a note

One way or the other, it's useless since the station doesn't

c420551057 mac80211: fix TX status reporting for ieee80211s
TX status reporting to ieee80211s is through ieee80211s_update_metric.
There are two problems about ieee80211s_update_metric:

1. The purpose is to estimate the fail probability
to a specific link. No need to restrict to data frame.

2. Current implementation does not work if wireless driver does not
pass tx_status with skb.

Fix this by removing ieee80211_is_data condition, passing
ieee80211_tx_status directly to ieee80211s_update_metric, and

6eae4a6c2b mac80211: fix pending queue hang due to TX_DROP
In our environment running lots of mesh nodes, we are seeing the
pending queue hang periodically, with the debugfs queues file showing
lines such as:

    00: 0x00000000/348

i.e. there are a large number of frames but no stop reason set.

One way this could happen is if queue processing from the pending
tasklet exited early without processing all frames, and without having
some future event (incoming frame, stop reason flag, ...) to reschedule
it.

Exactly this can occur today if ieee80211_tx() returns false due to
packet drops or power-save buffering in the tx handlers. In the
past, this function would return true in such cases, and the change
to false doesn't seem to be intentional. Fix this case by reverting

62872a9b9a mac80211: Fix PTK rekey freezes and clear text leak
Rekeying PTK keys without "Extended Key ID for Individually Addressed
Frames" did use a procedure not suitable to replace in-use keys and
could caused the following issues:

 1) Freeze caused by incoming frames:
If the local STA installed the key prior to the remote STA we still
had the old key active in the hardware when mac80211 switched over
    to the new key.
Therefore there was a window where the card could hand over frames
decoded with the old key to mac80211 and bump the new PN (IV) value
to an incorrect high number. When it happened the local replay
detection silently started to drop all frames sent with the new key.

 2) Freeze caused by outgoing frames:
If mac80211 was providing the PN (IV) and handed over a clear text
frame for encryption to the hardware prior to a key change the
driver/card could have processed the queued frame after switching
to the new key. This bumped the PN value on the remote STA to an
incorrect high number, tricking the remote STA to discard all frames
    we sent later.

 3) Freeze caused by RX aggregation reorder buffer:
An aggregation session started with the old key and ending after the
switch to the new key also bumped the PN to an incorrect high number,
freezing the connection quite similar to 1).

 4) Freeze caused by repeating lost frames in an aggregation session:
A driver could repeat a lost frame and encrypt it with the new key
while in a TX aggregation session without updating the PN for the
new key. This also could freeze connections similar to 2).

 5) Clear text leak:
Removing encryption offload from the card cleared the encryption
offload flag only after the card had deleted the key and we did not
stop TX during the rekey. The driver/card could therefore get
unencrypted frames from mac80211 while no longer be instructed to
    encrypt them.

To prevent those issues the key install logic has been changed:
 - Mac80211 divers known to be able to rekey PTK0 keys have to set
   @NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_CAN_REPLACE_PTK0,
 - mac80211 stops queuing frames depending on the key during the replace
 - the key is first replaced in the hardware and after that in mac80211
 - and mac80211 stops/blocks new aggregation sessions during the rekey.

For drivers not setting
@NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_CAN_REPLACE_PTK0 the user space must avoid PTK
rekeys if "Extended Key ID for Individually Addressed Frames" is not
being used. Rekeys for mac80211 drivers without this flag will generate a
warning and use an extra call to ieee80211_flush_queues() to both
highlight and try to prevent the issues with not updated drivers.

The core of the fix changes the key install procedure from:
 - atomic switch over to the new key in mac80211
 - remove the old key in the hardware (stops encryption offloading, fall
back to software encryption with a potential clear text packet leak
   in between)
 - delete the inactive old key in mac80211
 - enable hardware encryption offloading for the new key
to:
 - if it's a PTK mark the old key as tainted to drop TX frames with the
   outgoing key
 - replace the key in hardware with the new one
 - atomic switch over to the new (not marked as tainted) key in
   mac80211 (which also resumes TX)
 - delete the inactive old key in mac80211

With the new sequence the hardware will be unable to decrypt frames
encrypted with the old key prior to switching to the new key in mac80211
and thus prevent PNs from packets decrypted with the old key to be
accounted against the new key.

For that to work the drivers have to provide a clear boundary.
Mac80211 drivers setting @NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_CAN_REPLACE_PTK0 confirm
to provide it and mac80211 will then be able to correctly rekey in-use
PTK keys with those drivers.

The mac80211 requirements for drivers to set the flag have been added to
the "Hardware crypto acceleration" documentation section. It drills down
to:
The drivers must not hand over frames decrypted with the old key to
mac80211 once the call to set_key() with %DISABLE_KEY has been
completed. It's allowed to either drop or continue to use the old key
for any outgoing frames which are already in the queues, but it must not
send out any of them unencrypted or encrypted with the new key.

Even with the new boundary in place aggregation sessions with the
reorder buffer are problematic:
RX aggregation session started prior and completed after the rekey could
still dump frames received with the old key at mac80211 after it
switched over to the new key. This is side stepped by stopping all (RX
and TX) aggregation sessions when replacing a PTK key and hardware key
offloading.
Stopping TX aggregation sessions avoids the need to get
the PNs (IVs) updated in frames prepared for the old key and
(re)transmitted after the switch to the new key. As a bonus it improves
the compatibility when the remote STA is not handling rekeys as it
should.

When using software crypto aggregation sessions are not stopped.
Mac80211 won't be able to decode the dangerous frames and discard them
without special handling.

d1332e7be2 mac80211: support radiotap L-SIG data
As before with HE, the data needs to be provided by the
driver in the skb head, since there's not enough space
in the skb CB.

e80d642552 mac80211: copy VHT EXT NSS BW Support/Capable data to station
When taking VHT capabilities for a station, copy the new
fields if we support them as a transmitter. Also adjust
the maximum bandwidth the station supports appropriately.

Also, since it was missing, copy tx_highest and rx_highest.

7eb26df297 mac80211: add ability to parse CCFS2
With newer VHT implementations, it's necessary to look at the

09b4a4faf9 mac80211: introduce capability flags for VHT EXT NSS support
Depending on whether or not rate control supports selecting
rates depending on the bandwidth, we can use VHT extended
NSS support. In essence, this is dot11VHTExtendedNSSBWCapable
from the spec, since depending on that we'll need to parse
the bandwidth.

If needed, also set/clear the VHT Capability Element bit for
this capability so that we don't advertise it erroneously or
don't advertise it when we actually use it.
