Policy - foreground GC, LFS mode and greedy GC mode.
Under this policy, f2fs_gc() loops forever to GC as it doesn't have
enough free segements to proceed and thus it keeps calling gc_more
for the same victim segment. This can happen if the selected victim
segment could not be GC'd due to failed blkaddr validity check i.e.
is_alive() returns false for the blocks set in current validity map.
Fix this by not resetting the sbi->cur_victim_sec to NULL_SEGNO, when
the segment selected could not be GC'd. This helps to select another
segment for GC and thus helps to proceed forward with GC.

This can happen due to is_alive as well as atomic_file which skipps
GC.

In below call path, we change i_size before inline conversion, however,
if we failed to convert inline inode, the inode may have wrong i_size
which is larger than max inline size, result inline inode corruption.
- f2fs_setattr
- truncate_setsize
- f2fs_convert_inline_inode
This patch reorders truncate_setsize() and f2fs_convert_inline_inode()
to guarantee inline_data has valid i_size.

The root cause of this issue is, in a very small partition, e.g.
in generic/204 testcase of fstest suit, filesystem's free space
is 50MB, so at most we can write 12800 inline inode with command:
`echo XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX > $SCRATCH_MNT/$i`,
then filesystem will have:
- 12800 dirty inline data page
- 12800 dirty inode page
- and 12800 dirty imeta (dirty inode)
When we flush node-inode's page cache, we can also flush inline
data with each inode page, however it will run out-of-free-space
in device, then once it triggers checkpoint, there is no room for
huge number of imeta, at this time, GC is useless, as there is no
dirty segment at all.
In order to fix this, we try to recognize inode page during
node_inode's page flushing, and update inode page from dirty inode,
so that later another imeta (dirty inode) flush can be avoided.

Fix this by keeping track of such invalid segments and skip those
segments for selection in get_victim_by_default() to avoid endless
GC loop under such error scenarios. Currently, add this logic under
CONFIG_F2FS_CHECK_FS to be able to root cause the issue in debug
version.

build_sit_info() allocate all bitmaps for each segment one by one,
it's quite low efficiency, this pach changes to allocate large
continuous memory at a time, and divide it and assign for each bitmaps
of segment. For large size image, it can expect improving its mount
speed.

Support two generic fs ioctls FS_IOC_{GET,SET}FSLABEL, letting
f2fs pass generic/492 testcase.
Fixes were made by Eric where:
- f2fs: fix buffer overruns in FS_IOC_{GET, SET}FSLABEL
utf16s_to_utf8s() and utf8s_to_utf16s() take the number of characters,
not the number of bytes.
- f2fs: fix copying too many bytes in FS_IOC_SETFSLABEL
Userspace provides a null-terminated string, so don't assume that the
full FSLABEL_MAX bytes can always be copied.
- f2fs: add missing authorization check in FS_IOC_SETFSLABEL
FS_IOC_SETFSLABEL modifies the filesystem superblock, so it shouldn't be
allowed to regular users. Require CAP_SYS_ADMIN, like xfs and btrfs do.

There is one case can cause data corruption.
- write 4k to fileA
- fsync fileA, 4k data is writebacked to lbaA
- write 4k to fileA
- kworker flushs 4k to lbaB; dnode contain lbaB didn't be persisted yet
- write 4k to fileB
- kworker flush 4k to lbaA due to SSR
- SPOR -> dnode with lbaA will be recovered, however lbaA contains fileB's
data
One solution is tracking all fsynced file's block history, and disallow
SSR overwrite on newly invalidated block on that file.
However, during recovery, no matter the dnode is flushed or fsynced, all
previous dnodes until last fsynced one in node chain can be recovered,
that means we need to record all block change in flushed dnode, which
will cause heavy cost, so let's just use simple fix by forbidding SSR
overwrite directly.

"We normally use -EUCLEAN to signal filesystem corruption. Plus, it is
good idea to report it to the syslog and mark filesystem as "needing
fsck" if filesystem can do that."
Still we need improve the original patch with:
- use unlikely keyword
- add message print
- return EUCLEAN
However, after rethink this patch, I don't think we should add such
condition check here as below reasons:
- We have already checked the field in f2fs_sanity_check_ckpt(),
- If there is fs corrupt or security vulnerability, there is nothing
to guarantee the field is integrated after the check, unless we do
the check before each of its use, however no filesystem does that.
- We only have similar check for bitmap, which was added due to there
is bitmap corruption happened on f2fs' runtime in product.
- There are so many key fields in SB/CP/NAT did have such check
after f2fs_sanity_check_{sb,cp,..}.
So I propose to revert this unneeded check.

During defragment, we missed to trigger fragmented blocks migration
for below condition:
In defragment region:
- total number of valid blocks is smaller than 512;
- the tail part of the region are all holes;
In addtion, return zero to user via range->len if there is no
fragmented blocks.

This patch implements the actual support for case-insensitive file name
lookups in f2fs, based on the feature bit and the encoding stored in the
superblock.
A filesystem that has the casefold feature set is able to configure
directories with the +F (F2FS_CASEFOLD_FL) attribute, enabling lookups
to succeed in that directory in a case-insensitive fashion, i.e: match
a directory entry even if the name used by userspace is not a byte per
byte match with the disk name, but is an equivalent case-insensitive
version of the Unicode string. This operation is called a
case-insensitive file name lookup.
The feature is configured as an inode attribute applied to directories
and inherited by its children. This attribute can only be enabled on
empty directories for filesystems that support the encoding feature,
thus preventing collision of file names that only differ by case.
* dcache handling:
For a +F directory, F2Fs only stores the first equivalent name dentry
used in the dcache. This is done to prevent unintentional duplication of
dentries in the dcache, while also allowing the VFS code to quickly find
the right entry in the cache despite which equivalent string was used in
a previous lookup, without having to resort to ->lookup().
d_hash() of casefolded directories is implemented as the hash of the
casefolded string, such that we always have a well-known bucket for all
the equivalencies of the same string. d_compare() uses the
utf8_strncasecmp() infrastructure, which handles the comparison of
equivalent, same case, names as well.
For now, negative lookups are not inserted in the dcache, since they
would need to be invalidated anyway, because we can't trust missing file
dentries. This is bad for performance but requires some leveraging of
the vfs layer to fix. We can live without that for now, and so does
everyone else.
* on-disk data:
Despite using a specific version of the name as the internal
representation within the dcache, the name stored and fetched from the
disk is a byte-per-byte match with what the user requested, making this
implementation 'name-preserving'. i.e. no actual information is lost
when writing to storage.
DX is supported by modifying the hashes used in +F directories to make
them case/encoding-aware. The new disk hashes are calculated as the
hash of the full casefolded string, instead of the string directly.
This allows us to efficiently search for file names in the htree without
requiring the user to provide an exact name.
* Dealing with invalid sequences:
By default, when a invalid UTF-8 sequence is identified, ext4 will treat
it as an opaque byte sequence, ignoring the encoding and reverting to
the old behavior for that unique file. This means that case-insensitive
file name lookup will not work only for that file. An optional bit can
be set in the superblock telling the filesystem code and userspace tools
to enforce the encoding. When that optional bit is set, any attempt to
create a file name using an invalid UTF-8 sequence will fail and return
an error to userspace.
* Normalization algorithm:
The UTF-8 algorithms used to compare strings in f2fs is implemented
in fs/unicode, and is based on a previous version developed by
SGI. It implements the Canonical decomposition (NFD) algorithm
described by the Unicode specification 12.1, or higher, combined with
the elimination of ignorable code points (NFDi) and full
case-folding (CF) as documented in fs/unicode/utf8_norm.c.
NFD seems to be the best normalization method for F2FS because:
- It has a lower cost than NFC/NFKC (which requires
decomposing to NFD as an intermediary step)
- It doesn't eliminate important semantic meaning like
compatibility decompositions.

- This implementation is not completely linguistic accurate, because
different languages have conflicting rules, which would require the
specialization of the filesystem to a given locale, which brings all
sorts of problems for removable media and for users who use more than
one language.

Add charset encoding to f2fs to support casefolding. It is modeled after
the same feature introduced in commit c83ad55eaa ("ext4: include charset
encoding information in the superblock")
Currently this is not compatible with encryption, similar to the current
ext4 imlpementation. This will change in the future.

In fill_super() and put_super(), f2fs_destroy_stats() is called
in prior to f2fs_destroy_segment_manager(), so if current
sbi can still be visited in global stat list, SM_I(sbi) should be
released yet.
For this reason, SM_I(sbi) does not need to be checked in
update_general_status().

With quota_ino feature on, generic/232 reports an inconsistence issue
on the image.
The root cause is that the testcase tries to:
- use quotactl to shutdown journalled quota based on sysfile;
- and then use quotactl to enable/turn on quota based on specific file
(aquota.user or aquota.group).
Eventually, quota sysfile will be out-of-update due to following specific
file creation.
Change as below to fix this issue:
- deny enabling quota based on specific file if quota sysfile exists.
- set SBI_QUOTA_NEED_REPAIR once sysfile based quota shutdowns via
ioctl.

Recovery can cache discard commands, so in error path of fill_super(),

During umount, we will access NULL sbi->node_inode pointer in
f2fs_write_end_io():

The reason is if disable_checkpoint mount option is on, meta dirty
pages can remain during umount, and then be flushed by iput() of
meta_inode, however node_inode has been iput()ed before
meta_inode's iput().
Since checkpoint is disabled, all meta/node datas are useless and
should be dropped in next mount, so in umount, let's adjust
drop_inode() to give a hint to iput_final() to drop all those dirty
datas correctly.

If IO alignment feature is turned on after remount, we didn't
initialize mempool of it, it turns out we will encounter panic
during IO submission due to access NULL mempool pointer.
This feature should be set only at mount time, so simply deny
configuring during remount.

Since 07173c3ec2 ("block: enable multipage bvecs"), one bio vector
can store multi pages, so that we can not calculate max IO size of
bio as PAGE_SIZE * bio->bi_max_vecs. However IO alignment feature of
f2fs always has that assumption, so finally, it may cause panic during
IO submission as below stack.

Add fs-verity support to f2fs. fs-verity is a filesystem feature that
enables transparent integrity protection and authentication of read-only
files. It uses a dm-verity like mechanism at the file level: a Merkle
tree is used to verify any block in the file in log(filesize) time. It
is implemented mainly by helper functions in fs/verity/. See
Documentation/filesystems/fsverity.rst for the full documentation.
The f2fs support for fs-verity consists of:
- Adding a filesystem feature flag and an inode flag for fs-verity.
- Implementing the fsverity_operations to support enabling verity on an
inode and reading/writing the verity metadata.
- Updating ->readpages() to verify data as it's read from verity files
and to support reading verity metadata pages.
- Updating ->write_begin(), ->write_end(), and ->writepages() to support
writing verity metadata pages.
- Calling the fs-verity hooks for ->open(), ->setattr(), and ->ioctl().
Like ext4, f2fs stores the verity metadata (Merkle tree and
fsverity_descriptor) past the end of the file, starting at the first 64K
boundary beyond i_size. This approach works because (a) verity files
are readonly, and (b) pages fully beyond i_size aren't visible to
userspace but can be read/written internally by f2fs with only some
relatively small changes to f2fs. Extended attributes cannot be used
because (a) f2fs limits the total size of an inode's xattr entries to
4096 bytes, which wouldn't be enough for even a single Merkle tree
block, and (b) f2fs encryption doesn't encrypt xattrs, yet the verity
metadata *must* be encrypted when the file is because it contains hashes
of the plaintext data.

Wire up the new ioctls for adding and removing fscrypt keys to/from the
filesystem, and the new ioctl for retrieving v2 encryption policies.
The key removal ioctls also required making f2fs_drop_inode() call
fscrypt_drop_inode().

The kernel mount_block_root() function expects -EACESS or -EINVAL for a
unmountable filesystem when trying to mount the root with different
filesystem types.
However, in 5.3-rc1 the behavior when F2FS code cannot find valid block
changed to return -EFSCORRUPTED(-EUCLEAN), and this error code makes
mount_block_root() fail when trying to probe F2FS.
When the magic number of the superblock mismatches, it has a high
probability that it's just not a F2FS. In this case return -EINVAL seems
to be a better result, and this return value can make mount_block_root()
probing work again.
Return -EINVAL when the superblock has magic mismatch, -EFSCORRUPTED in
other cases (the magic matches but the superblock cannot be recognized).

f2fs_allocate_data_block() invalidates old block address and enable new block
address. Then, if we try to read old block by f2fs_submit_page_bio(), it will
give WARN due to reading invalid blocks.
Let's make the order sanely back.

Now that f2fs_ioc_setflags() and f2fs_ioc_fssetxattr() call the VFS
helper functions which check for permission to change the immutable and

In this round, we've introduced native swap file support which can exploit DIO,
enhanced existing checkpoint=disable feature with additional mount option to
tune the triggering condition, and allowed user to preallocate physical blocks
in a pinned file which will be useful to avoid f2fs fragmentation in append-only
workloads. In addition, we've fixed subtle quota corruption issue.
Enhancement:
- add swap file support which uses DIO
- allocate blocks for pinned file
- allow SSR and mount option to enhance checkpoint=disable
- enhance IPU IOs
- add more sanity checks such as memory boundary access

changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going

Only GFP_KERNEL and GFP_NOIO are used with blkdev_report_zones(). In
preparation of using vmalloc() for large report buffer and zone array
allocations used by this function, remove its "gfp_t gfp_mask" argument
and rely on the caller context to use memalloc_noio_save/restore() where
necessary (block layer zone revalidation and dm-zoned I/O error path).

The discard thread should issue upto dpolicy->max_requests at once
and wait for all those discard requests at once it reaches
dpolicy->max_requests. It should then sleep for dpolicy->min_interval
timeout before issuing the next batch of discard requests. But in the
current code of is_idle(), it checks for dcc_info->queued_discard and
aborts issuing the discard batch of max_requests. This
dcc_info->queued_discard will be true always once one discard command
is issued.

f2fs uses EFAULT as error number to indicate filesystem is corrupted
all the time, but generic filesystems use EUCLEAN for such condition,
we need to change to follow others.
This patch adds two new macros as below to wrap more generic error
code macros, and spread them in code.

This ioctl shrinks a given length (aligned to sections) from end of the
main area. Any cursegs and valid blocks will be moved out before
invalidating the range.
This feature can be used for adjusting partition sizes online.
History of the patch:

f2fs copied all the on-disk i_flags from ext4, and along with it the
assumption that the on-disk i_flags are the same as the bits used by
FS_IOC_GETFLAGS and FS_IOC_SETFLAGS. This is problematic because
reserving an on-disk inode flag in either filesystem's i_flags or in
these ioctls effectively reserves it in all the other places too. In
fact, most of the "f2fs i_flags" are not used by f2fs at all.
Fix this by separating f2fs's i_flags from the ioctl bits and ext4's
i_flags.
In the process, un-reserve all "f2fs i_flags" that aren't actually
supported by f2fs. This included various flags that were not settable
at all, as well as various flags that were settable by FS_IOC_SETFLAGS
but didn't actually do anything.
There's a slight chance we'll need to add some flag(s) back to
FS_IOC_SETFLAGS in order to avoid breaking users who expect f2fs to
accept some random flag(s). But hopefully such users don't exist.

This extends the checkpoint option to allow checkpoint=disable:%u[%]
This allows you to specify what how much of the disk you are willing
to lose access to while mounting with checkpoint=disable. If the amount
lost would be higher, the mount will return -EAGAIN. This can be given
as a percent of total space, or in blocks.
Currently, we need to run garbage collection until the amount of holes
is smaller than the OVP space. With the new option, f2fs can mark
space as unusable up front instead of requiring garbage collection until
the number of holes is small enough.

On a remount, you can currently set root reserved if it was not
previously set. This can cause an underflow if reserved has been set to
a very high value, since then root reserved + current reserved could be
greater than user_block_count. inc_valid_block_count later subtracts out
these values from user_block_count, causing an underflow.

The existing threshold for allowable holes at checkpoint=disable time is
too high. The OVP space contains reserved segments, which are always in
the form of free segments. These must be subtracted from the OVP value.
The current threshold is meant to be the maximum value of holes of a
single type we can have and still guarantee that we can fill the disk
without failing to find space for a block of a given type.
If the disk is full, ignoring current reserved, which only helps us,
the amount of unused blocks is equal to the OVP area. Of that, there
are reserved segments, which must be free segments, and the rest of the
ovp area, which can come from either free segments or holes. The maximum
possible amount of holes is OVP-reserved.
Now, consider the disk when mounting with checkpoint=disable.
We must be able to fill all available free space with either data or
node blocks. When we start with checkpoint=disable, holes are locked to
their current type. Say we have H of one type of hole, and H+X of the
other. We can fill H of that space with arbitrary typed blocks via SSR.
For the remaining H+X blocks, we may not have any of a given block type
left at all. For instance, if we were to fill the disk entirely with
blocks of the type with fewer holes, the H+X blocks of the opposite type
would not be used. If H+X > OVP-reserved, there would be more holes than
could possibly exist, and we would have failed to find a suitable block
earlier on, leading to a crash in update_sit_entry.
If H+X <= OVP-reserved, then the holes end up effectively masked by the OVP
region in this case.

The testcase fails because that, in fuzzed image, current segment was
allocated with LFS type, its .next_blkoff should point to an unused
block address, but actually, its bitmap shows it's not. So during
allocation, f2fs crash when setting bitmap.
Introducing sanity_check_curseg() to check such inconsistence of
current in-used segment.

Rename fscrypt_encrypt_page() to fscrypt_encrypt_pagecache_blocks() and
redefine its behavior to encrypt all filesystem blocks from the given
region of the given page, rather than assuming that the region consists
of just one filesystem block. Also remove the 'inode' and 'lblk_num'
parameters, since they can be retrieved from the page as it's already
assumed to be a pagecache page.
This is in preparation for allowing encryption on ext4 filesystems with
blocksize != PAGE_SIZE.

Currently, bounce page handling for writes to encrypted files is
unnecessarily complicated. A fscrypt_ctx is allocated along with each
bounce page, page_private(bounce_page) points to this fscrypt_ctx, and
fscrypt_ctx::w::control_page points to the original pagecache page.
However, because writes don't use the fscrypt_ctx for anything else,
there's no reason why page_private(bounce_page) can't just point to the
original pagecache page directly.
Therefore, this patch makes this change. In the process, it also cleans
up the API exposed to filesystems that allows testing whether a page is
a bounce page, getting the pagecache page from a bounce page, and
freeing a bounce page.

My Ubuntu initramfs got a bit wonky and I had to boot into live CD and
fix some stuffs. The live CD was using 4.15 kernel, and just mounting
the f2fs partition there corrupted f2fs and my 4.19(with 5.1-rc1-4.19
f2fs-stable merged) refused to mount with "SIT is corrupted node"
message.
I used the latest f2fs-tools sent by Chao including "fsck.f2fs: fix to
repair cp_loads blocks at correct position"
It spit out 140M worth of output, but at least I didn't have to run it
twice. Everything returned "Ok" in the 2nd run.

Although we have rebuild the old deprecated checkpoint with new layout
during repair, we only repair last checkpoint park, the other old one is
remained.
Once the image was mounted, we will 1) sanity check layout and 2) decide
which checkpoint park to use according to cp_ver. So that we will print
reported message unnecessarily at step 1), to avoid it, we simply move
layout check into f2fs_sanity_check_ckpt() after step 2).

bit, and Chao replaced BUG_ON() with reporting errors to user since we've not
hit from users but did hit from crafted images. We've found a disk layout bug
in large_nat_bits feature which supports very large NAT entries enabled at mkfs.
If the feature is enabled, it will give a notice to run fsck to correct the
on-disk layout.

Previously, f2fs_is_valid_blkaddr(, blkaddr, DATA_GENERIC) will check
whether @blkaddr locates in main area or not.
That check is weak, since the block address in range of main area can
point to the address which is not valid in segment info table, and we
can not detect such condition, we may suffer worse corruption as system
continues running.
So this patch introduce DATA_GENERIC_ENHANCE to enhance the sanity check
which trigger SIT bitmap check rather than only range check.
This patch did below changes as wel:
- set SBI_NEED_FSCK in f2fs_is_valid_blkaddr().
- get rid of is_valid_data_blkaddr() to avoid panic if blkaddr is invalid.
- introduce verify_fio_blkaddr() to wrap fio {new,old}_blkaddr validation check.

DATA_GENERIC_ENHANCE enhanced to validate block addresses on read/write paths.
But, xfstest/generic/446 compalins some generated kernel messages saying invalid
bitmap was detected when reading a block. The reaons is, when we get the
block addresses from extent_cache, there is no lock to synchronize it from
truncating the blocks in parallel.

Obviously, if nat_bitmap size + sit_bitmap size is larger than
MAX_BITMAP_SIZE_IN_CKPT, nat_bitmap or sit_bitmap may overlap
checkpoint checksum's position, once checkpoint() is triggered
from kernel, nat or sit bitmap will be damaged by checksum field.
In order to fix this, let's relocate checksum_value's position
to the head of sit_nat_version_bitmap as below, then nat/sit
bitmap and chksum value update will become safe.

Previously, f2fs_checkpoint.checksum_offset points fixed position of
f2fs_checkpoint structure:
"#define CP_CHKSUM_OFFSET 4092"
It is unnecessary, and it breaks the consecutiveness of nat and sit
bitmap stored across checkpoint park block and payload blocks.
This patch allows f2fs to handle unfixed .checksum_offset.
In addition, for the case checksum value is stored in the middle of
checkpoint park, calculating checksum value with superposition method
like we did for inode_checksum.

This patch expands scalability of dnode layout, it allows address pointer
number of dnode aligning to specified size (now, the size is one byte by
default), and later the number can align to compress cluster size
(1 << n bytes, n=[2,..)), it can avoid cluster acrossing two dnode, making
design of compress meta layout simple.

This patch introduces f2fs_read_single_page() to wrap core operations
of reading one page in f2fs_mpage_readpages().
In addition, if we failed in f2fs_mpage_readpages(), propagate error
number to f2fs_read_data_page(), for f2fs_read_data_pages() path,
always return success.

sit.vblocks and sum valid block count in sit.valid_map may be
inconsistent, segment w/ zero vblocks will be treated as free
segment, while allocating in free segment, we may allocate a
free block, if its bitmap is valid previously, it can cause
kernel crash due to bitmap verification failure.
Anyway, to avoid further serious metadata inconsistence and
corruption, it is necessary and worth to detect SIT
inconsistence. So let's enable check_block_count() to verify
vblocks and valid_map all the time rather than do it only
CONFIG_F2FS_CHECK_FS is enabled.

With corrupted image wihch has out-of-range valid node/block count, during
recovery, once we failed due to no free space, it will trigger kernel
panic.
Adding sanity check on valid node/block count in f2fs_sanity_check_ckpt()
to detect such condition, so that potential panic can be avoided.

NAT table is corrupted, so reserved meta/node inode ids were added into
free list incorrectly, during file creation, since reserved id has cached
in inode hash, so it fails the creation and preallocated nid can not be
released later, result in kernel panic.

On below paths, we can have opportunity to readahead inode page
- gc_node_segment -> f2fs_ra_node_page
- gc_data_segment -> f2fs_ra_node_page
- f2fs_fill_dentries -> f2fs_ra_node_page
Unlike synchronized read, on readahead path, we can set page uptodate
before verifying page's checksum, then read_node_page() will trigger
kernel panic once it encounters a uptodated page w/ incorrect checksum.
So considering readahead scenario, we have to do checksum each time
when loading inode page even if it is uptodated.

During inode loading, __recover_inline_status() can recovery inode status
and set inode dirty, once we failed in following process, it will fail
the check in f2fs_evict_inode, result in trigger BUG_ON().
Let's clear dirty inode in error path of f2fs_iget() to avoid panic.

The root cause is that we persist xattr data into reserved inline xattr
space, even if inline_xattr is not enable in inline directory inode, after
inline dentry conversion, reserved space no longer exists, so that xattr
data missed.
Let's use inline xattr space only if inline_xattr flag is set on inode
to fix this iusse.

With below mkfs and mount option, generic/339 of fstest will report that
scratch image becomes corrupted.

In old kernel, inline data and directory always reserved 200 bytes in
inode layout, even if inline_xattr is disabled, then new kernel tries
to retrieve that space for non-inline xattr inode, but for inline dentry,
its layout size should be fixed, so we just keep that reserved space.
But the problem here is that, after inline dentry conversion, inline
dentry layout no longer exists, if we still reserve inline xattr space,
after dents updates, there will be a hole in inline xattr space, which
can break hierarchy hash directory structure.
This patch fixes this issue by retrieving inline xattr space after
inline dentry conversion.

During GC, if segment type stored in SSA and SIT is inconsistent, we just
skip migrating current segment directly, since we need to know the exact
type to decide the migration function we use.
So in foreground GC, we will easily run into a infinite loop as we may
select the same victim segment which has inconsistent type due to greedy
policy. In order to end up this, we choose to shutdown filesystem. For
backgrond GC, we need to do that as well, so that we can avoid latter
potential infinite looped foreground GC.

This is my very first pull-request. I've been working full-time as
a kernel developer for more than two years now. During this time I've
been fixing bugs reported by Coverity all over the tree and, as part
of my work, I'm also contributing to the KSPP. My work in the kernel
community has been supervised by Greg KH and Kees Cook.
OK. So, after the quick introduction above, please, pull the following
patches that mark switch cases where we are expecting to fall through.
These patches are part of the ongoing efforts to enable -Wimplicit-fallthrough.
They have been ignored for a long time (most of them more than 3 months,
even after pinging multiple times), which is the reason why I've created
this tree. Most of them have been baking in linux-next for a whole development
cycle. And with Stephen Rothwell's help, we've had linux-next nag-emails
going out for newly introduced code that triggers -Wimplicit-fallthrough
to avoid gaining more of these cases while we work to remove the ones
that are already present.
I'm happy to let you know that we are getting close to completing this
work. Currently, there are only 32 of 2311 of these cases left to be
addressed in linux-next. I'm auditing every case; I take a look into
the code and analyze it in order to determine if I'm dealing with an

The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything.
The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP.
However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op.
With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly
pass MAY_SLEEP. These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm
actually started sleeping. For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions,
which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP
from the ahash API to the shash API. However, the shash functions are
called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep.
Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while
hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function
crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks
and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk. It's
not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary
to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all.
Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the

Path lookups that traverse encrypted symlink(s) are very slow because
each encrypted symlink needs to be decrypted each time it's followed.
This also involves dropping out of rcu-walk mode.
Make encrypted symlinks faster by caching the decrypted symlink target
in ->i_link. The first call to fscrypt_get_symlink() sets it. Then,
the existing VFS path lookup code uses the non-NULL ->i_link to take the
fast path where ->get_link() isn't called, and lookups in rcu-walk mode
remain in rcu-walk mode.
Also set ->i_link immediately when a new encrypted symlink is created.
To safely free the symlink target after an RCU grace period has elapsed,
introduce a new function fscrypt_free_inode(), and make the relevant
filesystems call it just before actually freeing the inode.

->lookup() in an encrypted directory begins as follows:
1. fscrypt_prepare_lookup():
a. Try to load the directory's encryption key.
b. If the key is unavailable, mark the dentry as a ciphertext name
via d_flags.
2. fscrypt_setup_filename():
a. Try to load the directory's encryption key.
b. If the key is available, encrypt the name (treated as a plaintext
name) to get the on-disk name. Otherwise decode the name
(treated as a ciphertext name) to get the on-disk name.
But if the key is concurrently added, it may be found at (2a) but not at
(1a). In this case, the dentry will be wrongly marked as a ciphertext
name even though it was actually treated as plaintext.
This will cause the dentry to be wrongly invalidated on the next lookup,
potentially causing problems. For example, if the racy ->lookup() was
part of sys_mount(), then the new mount will be detached when anything
tries to access it. This is despite the mountpoint having a plaintext
path, which should remain valid now that the key was added.
Of course, this is only possible if there's a userspace race. Still,
the additional kernel-side race is confusing and unexpected.
Close the kernel-side race by changing fscrypt_prepare_lookup() to also
set the on-disk filename (step 2b), consistent with the d_flags update.

added function is_journalled_quota() in f2fs.h, but it located outside of
_LINUX_F2FS_H macro coverage, it has been fixed with commit 0af725fcb7
("f2fs: fix wrong #endif").
But anyway, in order to avoid making same mistake latter, let's add single
line comment to notice which #if the last #endif is corresponding to.

Hi, this is a long standing bug that I've hit before on older kernels,
but I was not able to get the syslog saved because of the nature of
the bug. This time I had booted form a pen-drive, and was able to save
the log to it's efi-partition.
What i did to trigger it was to create a partition and format it f2fs,
then mount it with options:
"rw,relatime,lazytime,background_gc=on,disable_ext_identify,discard,heap,user_xattr,inline_xattr,acl,inline_data,inline_dentry,flush_merge,data_flush,extent_cache,mode=adaptive,active_logs=6,whint_mode=fs-based,alloc_mode=default,fsync_mode=strict".
Then I unpacked a big .tar.xz to the partition (I used a
gentoo-stage3-tarball as I was in process of installing Gentoo).
Same options just without data_flush gives no problems.

The root cause is that we run into an infinite recursive calling in
between f2fs_balance_fs_bg and writepage() as described below:

f2fs_hw_support_discard() only tests if the super block device supports
discard. However, for a multi-device volume, not all disks used may
support discard. Improve the check performed to test all devices of
the volume and report discard as supported if at least one device of
the volume supports discard. To implement this, introduce the helper
function f2fs_bdev_support_discard(), which returns true for zoned block
devices (where discard is processed as a zone reset) and for regular
disks supporting the discard command.
f2fs_bdev_support_discard() is also used in __queue_discard_cmd() to
handle discard command issuing for a particular device of the volume.
That is, prevent issuing a discard command for block devices that do
not support it.

For zoned block devices, an array of zone types for each device is
allocated and initialized in order to determine if a section is stored
on a sequential zone (zone reset needed) or a conventional zone (no
zone reset needed and regular discard applies). Considering this usage,
the zone types stored in memory can be replaced with a bitmap to
indicate an equivalent information, that is, if a zone is sequential or
not. This reduces the memory usage for each zoned device by roughly 8:
on a 14TB disk with zones of 256 MB, the zone type array consumes
13x4KB pages while the bitmap uses only 2x4KB pages.
This patch changes the f2fs_dev_info structure blkz_type field to the
bitmap blkz_seq. Access to this bitmap is done using the helper
function f2fs_blkz_is_seq(), which is a rewrite of the function
get_blkz_type().

For a single device mount using a zoned block device, the zone
information for the device is stored in the sbi->devs single entry
array and sbi->s_ndevs is set to 1. This differs from a single device
mount using a regular block device which does not allocate sbi->devs
and sets sbi->s_ndevs to 0.
However, sbi->s_devs == 0 condition is used throughout the code to
differentiate a single device mount from a multi-device mount where
sbi->s_ndevs is always larger than 1. This results in problems with
single zoned block device volumes as these are treated as multi-device
mounts but do not have the start_blk and end_blk information set. One
of the problem observed is skipping of zone discard issuing resulting in
write commands being issued to full zones or unaligned to a zone write
pointer.
Fix this problem by simply treating the cases sbi->s_ndevs == 0 (single
regular block device mount) and sbi->s_ndevs == 1 (single zoned block
device mount) in the same manner. This is done by introducing the
helper function f2fs_is_multi_device() and using this helper in place
of direct tests of sbi->s_ndevs value, improving code readability.

We've continued mainly to fix bugs in this round, as f2fs has been shipped
in more devices. Especially, we've focused on stabilizing checkpoint=disable
feature, and provided some interfaces for QA.

With below testcase, we will fail to find existed xattr entry:

/mnt/f2fs/file: user.name: No such attribute
The reason is for inode which has very small inline xattr size,
__find_inline_xattr() will fail to traverse any entry due to first
entry may not be loaded from xattr node yet, later, we may skip to
check entire xattr datas in __find_xattr(), result in such wrong
condition.
This patch adds condition to check such case to avoid this issue.

f2fs may skip pageout() due to incorrect page reference count.
The problem here is that MM defined the rule [1] very clearly that
once page was set with PG_private flag, we should increment the
refcount in that page, also main flows like pageout(), migrate_page()
will assume there is one additional page reference count if
page_has_private() returns true.
But currently, f2fs won't add/del refcount when changing PG_private
flag. Anyway, f2fs should follow MM's rule to make MM's related flows
running as expected.

We didn't recover permission field correctly after sudden power-cut,
the reason is in setattr we didn't add inode into global dirty list
once i_mode is changed, so latter checkpoint triggered by fsync will

VFS will take inode_lock for readdir, therefore no need to
take page lock in readdir at all just as the majority of
other generic filesystems.

With current retry mechanism in f2fs_fill_super, first fill_super
fails due to no memory, then second fill_super runs w/o recovery,
if we succeed, we may lose fsynced data, it doesn't make sense.
Let's retry fill_super only if it occurs non-ENOMEM error during
recovery.

- we should allow inline_xattr_size equaling to min size of inline

different size unit, previous one is 4 bytes, latter one is 1 bytes.
- DEF_MIN_INLINE_SIZE only indicate min size of inline data area,
however, we need to consider min size of inline dentry area as well,
minimal inline dentry should at least contain two entries: '.' and
'..', so that min inline_dentry size is 40 bytes.

Previously, we changed lock from cp_rwsem to node_change, it solved
the deadlock issue which was caused by below race condition:

We allow to truncate dnode w/o cp_rwsem held, result in incorrect sit
bitmap update, which can cause further data corruption.
So this patch reverts previous fix implementation, and try to fix
deadlock by skipping calling f2fs_truncate_blocks() in f2fs_write_failed()
only for quota file, and keep the preallocated data/node in the tail of
quota file, we can expecte that the preallocated space can be used to
store quota info latter soon.

After quota_off, we'll get some dirty blocks. If put_super don't have a chance
to flush them by checkpoint, it causes NULL pointer exception in end_io after

This patch introduces one extra iterator variable to bio_for_each_segment_all(),
then we can allow bio_for_each_segment_all() to iterate over multi-page bvec.
Given it is just one mechannical & simple change on all bio_for_each_segment_all()
users, this patch does tree-wide change in one single patch, so that we can
avoid to use a temporary helper for this conversion.

When we umount f2fs, we need to avoid long delay due to discard commands, which
is actually taking tens of seconds, if storage is very slow on UNMAP. So, this
patch introduces timeout-based work on it.
By default, let me give 5 seconds for discard.

In order to have a common code base for fscrypt "post read" processing
for all filesystems which support encryption, this commit removes
filesystem specific build config option (e.g. CONFIG_EXT4_FS_ENCRYPTION)
and replaces it with a build option (i.e. CONFIG_FS_ENCRYPTION) whose
value affects all the filesystems making use of fscrypt.

In order to record direct IO count, we add two additional type in
enum count_type: F2FS_DIO_{WRITE,READ}, but those IO won't dirty
filesystem metadata, so we don't need to set filesystem dirty in
inc_page_count(), fix it.

As I checked, this uninitialized variable won't cause extent cache

While traversing dirents in f2fs_fill_dentries(), if bitmap is valid,
filename length should not be zero, otherwise, directory structure
consistency could be corrupted, in this case, let's print related
info and set SBI_NEED_FSCK to trigger fsck for repairing.

return value. The function can work or not, but the code logic should
never do something different based on this.

In this round, we've focused on bug fixes since Pixel devices have been
shipping with f2fs. Some of them were related to hardware encryption support
which are actually not an issue in mainline, but would be better to merge
them in order to avoid potential bugs.
Enhancement:
- do GC sub-sections when the section is large
- add a flag in ioctl(SHUTDOWN) to trigger fsck for QA
- use kvmalloc() in order to give another chance to avoid ENOMEM
Bug fix:
- fix accessing memory boundaries in a malformed iamge
- GC gives stale unencrypted block
- GC counts in large sections
- detect idle time more precisely
- block allocation of DIO writes
- race conditions between write_begin and write_checkpoint
- allow GCs for node segments via ioctl()
There are various clean-ups and minor bug fixes as well.
