227a4aadc7 sched/membarrier: Fix p->mm->membarrier_state racy load
The membarrier_state field is located within the mm_struct, which
is not guaranteed to exist when used from runqueue-lock-free iteration
on runqueues by the membarrier system call.

Copy the membarrier_state from the mm_struct into the scheduler runqueue
when the scheduler switches between mm.

When registering membarrier for mm, after setting the registration bit
in the mm membarrier state, issue a synchronize_rcu() to ensure the
scheduler observes the change. In order to take care of the case
where a runqueue keeps executing the target mm without swapping to
other mm, iterate over each runqueue and issue an IPI to copy the
membarrier_state from the mm_struct into each runqueue which have the
same mm which state has just been modified.

Move the mm membarrier_state field closer to pgd in mm_struct to use
a cache line already touched by the scheduler switch_mm.

The membarrier_execve() (now membarrier_exec_mmap) hook now needs to
clear the runqueue's membarrier state in addition to clear the mm
membarrier state, so move its implementation into the scheduler
membarrier code so it can access the runqueue structure.

Add memory barrier in membarrier_exec_mmap() prior to clearing
the membarrier state, ensuring memory accesses executed prior to exec
are not reordered with the stores clearing the membarrier state.

As suggested by Linus, move all membarrier.c RCU read-side locks outside
of the for each cpu loops.

fab2735955 btrfs: Fix a regression which we can't convert to SINGLE profile
[BUG]
With v5.3 kernel, we can't convert to SINGLE profile:

  # btrfs balance start -f -dconvert=single $mnt
ERROR: error during balancing '/mnt/btrfs': Invalid argument
  # dmesg -t | tail
  validate_convert_profile: data profile=0x1000000000000 allowed=0x20 is_valid=1 final=0x1000000000000 ret=1
BTRFS error (device dm-3): balance: invalid convert data profile single

[CAUSE]
With the extra debug output added, it shows that the @allowed bit is
lacking the special in-memory only SINGLE profile bit.

Thus we fail at that (profile & ~allowed) check.

This regression is caused by commit 081db89b13 ("btrfs: use raid_attr
to get allowed profiles for balance conversion") and the fact that we
don't use any bit to indicate SINGLE profile on-disk, but uses special
in-memory only bit to help distinguish different profiles.

[FIX]
Add that BTRFS_AVAIL_ALLOC_BIT_SINGLE to @allowed, so the code should be
the same as it was and fix the regression.

BTRFS info (device sdi1): 1 enospc errors during balance
BTRFS info (device sdi1): balance: ended with status: -28

[CAUSE]
The problem happens when finish_ordered_io() get called with balance
still running, while the reloc root of that subvolume is already dead.
(Tree is swap already done, but tree not yet deleted for possible qgroup
usage.)

That means root->reloc_root still exists, but that reloc_root can be
under btrfs_drop_snapshot(), thus we shouldn't access it.

The following race could cause the use-after-free problem:

                CPU1 | CPU2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                  | relocate_block_group()
                                  | |- unset_reloc_control(rc)
                                  | |- btrfs_commit_transaction()
btrfs_finish_ordered_io()         | |- clean_dirty_subvols()
|- btrfs_join_transaction()       |    |
   |- record_root_in_trans()      |    |
      |- btrfs_init_reloc_root()  |    |
         |- if (root->reloc_root) |    |
         |                        |    |- root->reloc_root = NULL
         |                        |    |- btrfs_drop_snapshot(reloc_root);
         |- reloc_root->last_trans|
                 = trans->transid |
	    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
            Use after free

[FIX]
Fix it by the following modifications:

- Test if the root has dead reloc tree before accessing root->reloc_root
If the root has BTRFS_ROOT_DEAD_RELOC_TREE, then we don't need to
  create or update root->reloc_tree

- Clear the BTRFS_ROOT_DEAD_RELOC_TREE flag until we have fully dropped
  reloc tree
To co-operate with above modification, so as long as
BTRFS_ROOT_DEAD_RELOC_TREE is still set, we won't try to re-create
  reloc tree at record_root_in_trans().

649775be63 mm, fs: move randomize_stack_top from fs to mm
Patch series "Provide generic top-down mmap layout functions", v6.

This series introduces generic functions to make top-down mmap layout
easily accessible to architectures, in particular riscv which was the
initial goal of this series. The generic implementation was taken from
arm64 and used successively by arm, mips and finally riscv.

Note that in addition the series fixes 2 issues:

- stack randomization was taken into account even if not necessary.

- [1] fixed an issue with mmap base which did not take into account
randomization but did not report it to arm and mips, so by moving arm64
into a generic library, this problem is now fixed for both
  architectures.

This work is an effort to factorize architecture functions to avoid code
duplication and oversights as in [1].

This patch (of 14):

This preparatory commit moves this function so that further introduction
of generic topdown mmap layout is contained only in mm/util.c.

09d91cda0e mm,thp: avoid writes to file with THP in pagecache
In previous patch, an application could put part of its text section in
THP via madvise(). These THPs will be protected from writes when the
application is still running (TXTBSY). However, after the application
exits, the file is available for writes.

This patch avoids writes to file THP by dropping page cache for the file
when the file is open for write. A new counter nr_thps is added to struct
address_space. In do_dentry_open(), if the file is open for write and
nr_thps is non-zero, we drop page cache for the whole file.

13224794cb mm: remove quicklist page table caches
Patch series "mm: remove quicklist page table caches".

A while ago Nicholas proposed to remove quicklist page table caches [1].

I've rebased his patch on the curren upstream and switched ia64 and sh to
use generic versions of PTE allocation.

[1] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20190711030339.20892-1-npiggin@gmail.com

This patch (of 3):

Remove page table allocator "quicklists". These have been around for a
long time, but have not got much traction in the last decade and are only
used on ia64 and sh architectures.

The numbers in the initial commit look interesting but probably don't
apply anymore. If anybody wants to resurrect this it's in the git
history, but it's unhelpful to have this code and divergent allocator
behaviour for minor archs.

Also it might be better to instead make more general improvements to page
allocator if this is still so slow.

There is no need to check return value of debugfs_create functions, but
the last sweep through ocfs missed a number of places where this was
happening. There is also no need to save the individual dentries for the

By getting rid of the file dentries for the debugfs entries, a bit of
local memory can be saved as well.

07bfa4415a fat: work around race with userspace's read via blockdev while mounting
If userspace reads the buffer via blockdev while mounting,
sb_getblk()+modify can race with buffer read via blockdev.

For example,

            FS userspace
    bh = sb_getblk()
    modify bh->b_data
                                  read
				    ll_rw_block(bh)
				      fill bh->b_data by on-disk data
/* lost modified data by FS */
				      set_buffer_uptodate(bh)
    set_buffer_uptodate(bh)

Userspace should not use the blockdev while mounting though, the udev
seems to be already doing this. Although I think the udev should try to
avoid this, workaround the race by small overhead.

c128e57551 NFS: Optimise the default readahead size
In the years since the max readahead size was fixed in NFS, a number of
things have happened:
- Users can now set the value directly using /sys/class/bdi
- NFS max supported block sizes have increased by several orders of
  magnitude from 64K to 1MB.
- Disk access latencies are orders of magnitude faster due to SSD + NVME.

In particular note that if the server is advertising 1MB as the optimal
read size, as that will set the readahead size to 15MB.
Let's therefore adjust down, and try to default to VM_READAHEAD_PAGES.
However let's inform the VM about our preferred block size so that it
can choose to round up in cases where that makes sense.

13fc1d271a Btrfs: fix race setting up and completing qgroup rescan workers
There is a race between setting up a qgroup rescan worker and completing
a qgroup rescan worker that can lead to callers of the qgroup rescan wait
ioctl to either not wait for the rescan worker to complete or to hang
forever due to missing wake ups. The following diagram shows a sequence
of steps that illustrates the race.

        CPU 1 CPU 2 CPU 3

							 complete_all(&fs_info->qgroup_rescan_completion)

Before the rescan worker started by the task at CPU 3 completes, if
another task calls btrfs_ioctl_quota_rescan(), it will get -EINPROGRESS
because the flag BTRFS_QGROUP_STATUS_FLAG_RESCAN is set at
fs_info->qgroup_flags, which is expected and correct behaviour.

However if other task calls btrfs_ioctl_quota_rescan_wait() before the
rescan worker started by the task at CPU 3 completes, it will return
immediately without waiting for the new rescan worker to complete,
because fs_info->qgroup_rescan_running is set to false by CPU 2.

This race is making test case btrfs/171 (from fstests) to fail often:

  btrfs/171 9s ... - output mismatch (see /home/fdmanana/git/hub/xfstests/results//btrfs/171.out.bad)

That is because the test calls the btrfs-progs commands "qgroup quota
rescan -w", "qgroup assign" and "qgroup remove" in a sequence that makes
calls to the rescan start ioctl fail with -EINPROGRESS (note the "btrfs"
commands 'qgroup assign' and 'qgroup remove' often call the rescan start
ioctl after calling the qgroup assign ioctl,
btrfs_ioctl_qgroup_assign()), since previous waits didn't actually wait
for a rescan worker to complete.

Another problem the race can cause is missing wake ups for waiters,
since the call to complete_all() happens outside a critical section and
after clearing the flag BTRFS_QGROUP_STATUS_FLAG_RESCAN. In the sequence
diagram above, if we have a waiter for the first rescan task (executed
by CPU 2), then fs_info->qgroup_rescan_completion.wait is not empty, and
if after the rescan worker clears BTRFS_QGROUP_STATUS_FLAG_RESCAN and
before it calls complete_all() against
fs_info->qgroup_rescan_completion, the task at CPU 3 calls
init_completion() against fs_info->qgroup_rescan_completion which
re-initilizes its wait queue to an empty queue, therefore causing the
rescan worker at CPU 2 to call complete_all() against an empty queue,
never waking up the task waiting for that rescan worker.

Fix this by clearing BTRFS_QGROUP_STATUS_FLAG_RESCAN and setting
fs_info->qgroup_rescan_running to false in the same critical section,
delimited by the mutex fs_info->qgroup_rescan_lock, as well as doing the
call to complete_all() in that same critical section. This gives the
protection needed to avoid rescan wait ioctl callers not waiting for a
running rescan worker and the lost wake ups problem, since setting that
rescan flag and boolean as well as initializing the wait queue is done
already in a critical section delimited by that mutex (at
qgroup_rescan_init()).

0607eb1d45 Btrfs: fix missing error return if writeback for extent buffer never started
If lock_extent_buffer_for_io() fails, it returns a negative value, but its
caller btree_write_cache_pages() ignores such error. This means that a
call to flush_write_bio(), from lock_extent_buffer_for_io(), might have
failed. We should make btree_write_cache_pages() notice such error values
and stop immediatelly, making sure filemap_fdatawrite_range() returns an
error to the transaction commit path. A failure from flush_write_bio()
should also result in the endio callback end_bio_extent_buffer_writepage()
being invoked, which sets the BTRFS_FS_*_ERR bits appropriately, so that
there's no risk a transaction or log commit doesn't catch a writeback

9f7fec0ba8 Btrfs: fix selftests failure due to uninitialized i_mode in test inodes
Some of the self tests create a test inode, setup some extents and then do
calls to btrfs_get_extent() to test that the corresponding extent maps
exist and are correct. However btrfs_get_extent(), since the 5.2 merge
window, now errors out when it finds a regular or prealloc extent for an
inode that does not correspond to a regular file (its ->i_mode is not
S_IFREG). This causes the self tests to fail sometimes, specially when
KASAN, slub_debug and page poisoning are enabled:

  [ 9415.131428] BTRFS: selftest: fs/btrfs/tests/inode-tests.c:904 expected a real extent, got 0

This happens because the test inodes are created without ever initializing
the i_mode field of the inode, and neither VFS's new_inode() nor the btrfs
callback btrfs_alloc_inode() initialize the i_mode. Initialization of the
i_mode is done through the various callbacks used by the VFS to create
new inodes (regular files, directories, symlinks, tmpfiles, etc), which
all call btrfs_new_inode() which in turn calls inode_init_owner(), which
sets the inode's i_mode. Since the tests only uses new_inode() to create
the test inodes, the i_mode was never initialized.

This always happens on a VM I used with kasan, slub_debug and many other
debug facilities enabled. It also happened to someone who reported this
on bugzilla (on a 5.3-rc).

Fix this by setting i_mode to S_IFREG at btrfs_new_test_inode().

83a63072c8 nfsd: fix nfs read eof detection
Currently, the knfsd server assumes that a short read indicates an
end of file. That assumption is incorrect. The short read means that
either we've hit the end of file, or we've hit a read error.

In the case of a read error, the client may want to retry (as per the
implementation recommendations in RFC1813 and RFC7530), but currently it
is being told that it hit an eof.

Move the code to detect eof from version specific code into the generic
nfsd read.

Report eof only in the two following cases:
1) read() returns a zero length short read with no error.
2) the offset+length of the read is >= the file size.

e20e174ca1 xfs: convert inode to extent format after extent merge due to shift
The collapse range operation can merge extents if two newly adjacent
extents are physically contiguous. If the extent count is reduced on
a btree format inode, a change to extent format might be necessary.
This format change currently occurs as a side effect of the file
size update after extents have been shifted for the collapse. This
codepath ultimately calls xfs_bunmapi(), which happens to check for
and execute the format conversion even if there were no blocks
removed from the mapping.

While this ultimately puts the inode into the correct state, the
fact the format conversion occurs in a separate transaction from the
change that called for it is a problem. If an extent shift
transaction commits and the filesystem happens to crash before the
format conversion, the inode fork is left in a corrupted state after
log recovery. The inode fork verifier fails and xfs_repair
ultimately nukes the inode. This problem was originally reproduced
by generic/388.

Similar to how the insert range extent split code handles extent to
btree conversion, update the collapse range extent merge code to
handle btree to extent format conversion in the same transaction
that merges the extents. This ensures that the inode fork format
remains consistent if the filesystem happens to crash in the middle
of a collapse range operation that changes the inode fork format.

 - Add LSM hooks, and SELinux access control hooks, for dnotify,
fanotify, and inotify watches. This has been discussed with both the
LSM and fs/notify folks and everybody is good with these new hooks.

 - The LSM stacking changes missed a few calls to current_security() in
the SELinux code; we fix those and remove current_security() for
   good.

 - Improve our network object labeling cache so that we always return
the object's label, even when under memory pressure. Previously we
would return an error if we couldn't allocate a new cache entry, now
we always return the label even if we can't create a new cache entry
   for it.

 - Convert the sidtab atomic_t counter to a normal u32 with
   READ/WRITE_ONCE() and memory barrier protection.

 - A few patches to policydb.c to clean things up (remove forward

d4f4de5e5e Fix the locking in dcache_readdir() and friends
There are two problems in dcache_readdir() - one is that lockless traversal
of the list needs non-trivial cooperation of d_alloc() (at least a switch
to list_add_rcu(), and probably more than just that) and another is that
it assumes that no removal will happen without the directory locked exclusive.
Said assumption had always been there, never had been stated explicitly and
is violated by several places in the kernel (devpts and selinuxfs).

        * replacement of next_positive() with different calling conventions:
it returns struct list_head * instead of struct dentry *; the latter is
passed in and out by reference, grabbing the result and dropping the original
value.
        * scan is under ->d_lock. If we run out of timeslice, cursor is moved
after the last position we'd reached and we reschedule; then the scan continues
from that place. To avoid livelocks between multiple lseek() (with cursors
getting moved past each other, never reaching the real entries) we always
skip the cursors, need_resched() or not.
        * returned list_head * is either ->d_child of dentry we'd found or
->d_subdirs of parent (if we got to the end of the list).
        * dcache_readdir() and dcache_dir_lseek() switched to new helper.
dcache_readdir() always holds a reference to dentry passed to dir_emit() now.
Cursor is moved to just before the entry where dir_emit() has failed or into
the very end of the list, if we'd run out.
        * move_cursor() eliminated - it had sucky calling conventions and
after fixing that it became simply list_move() (in lseek and scan_positives)
or list_move_tail() (in readdir).

All operations with the list are under ->d_lock now, and we do not
depend upon having all file removals done with parent locked exclusive
anymore.

Pull ext4 updates from Ted Ts'o:
"Added new ext4 debugging ioctls to allow userspace to get information
about the state of the extent status cache.

Dropped workaround for pre-1970 dates which were encoded incorrectly
in pre-4.4 kernels. Since both the kernel correctly generates, and
e2fsck detects and fixes this issue for the past four years, it'e time
to drop the workaround. (Also, it's not like files with dates in the
distant past were all that common in the first place.)

A lot of miscellaneous bug fixes and cleanups, including some ext4
Documentation fixes. Also included are two minor bug fixes in
  fs/unicode"

84da111de0 hmm related patches for 5.4
This is more cleanup and consolidation of the hmm APIs and the very
strongly related mmu_notifier interfaces. Many places across the tree
using these interfaces are touched in the process. Beyond that a cleanup
to the page walker API and a few memremap related changes round out the
 series:

 - General improvement of hmm_range_fault() and related APIs, more
documentation, bug fixes from testing, API simplification &
   consolidation, and unused API removal

 - Simplify the hmm related kconfigs to HMM_MIRROR and DEVICE_PRIVATE, and
   make them internal kconfig selects

 - Hoist a lot of code related to mmu notifier attachment out of drivers by
using a refcount get/put attachment idiom and remove the convoluted
   mmu_notifier_unregister_no_release() and related APIs.

 - General API improvement for the migrate_vma API and revision of its only
   user in nouveau

 - Annotate mmu_notifiers with lockdep and sleeping region debugging

Two series unrelated to HMM or mmu_notifiers came along due to
 dependencies:

 - Allow pagemap's memremap_pages family of APIs to work without providing
   a struct device

 - Make walk_page_range() and related use a constant structure for function
   pointers

7e7db86c7e smb3: allow decryption keys to be dumped by admin for debugging
In order to debug certain problems it is important to be able
to decrypt network traces (e.g. wireshark) but to do this we
need to be able to dump out the encryption/decryption keys.
Dumping them to an ioctl is safer than dumping then to dmesg,
(and better than showing all keys in a pseudofile).

Restrict this to root (CAP_SYS_ADMIN), and only for a mount
that this admin has access to.

  - Some changes to our DMA code on bare metal, to allow devices with medium
sized DMA masks (> 32 && < 59 bits) to use more than 2GB of DMA space.

  - Support for firmware assisted crash dumps on bare metal (powernv).

  - Two series fixing bugs in and refactoring our PCI EEH code.

  - A large series refactoring our exception entry code to use gas macros, both
to make it more readable and also enable some future optimisations.

   - Initial support for running on a system with an Ultravisor, which
is software that runs below the hypervisor and protects guests
against some attacks by the hypervisor.

   - Support for building the kernel to run as a "Secure Virtual
Machine", ie. as a guest capable of running on a system with an
     Ultravisor.

   - Some changes to our DMA code on bare metal, to allow devices with
medium sized DMA masks (> 32 && < 59 bits) to use more than 2GB of
     DMA space.

   - Support for firmware assisted crash dumps on bare metal (powernv).

   - Two series fixing bugs in and refactoring our PCI EEH code.

   - A large series refactoring our exception entry code to use gas
macros, both to make it more readable and also enable some future
     optimisations.

2030ca560c nfsd: degraded slot-count more gracefully as allocation nears exhaustion.
This original code in nfsd4_get_drc_mem() would hand out 30
slots (approximately NFSD_MAX_MEM_PER_SESSION bytes at slightly
over 2K per slot) to each requesting client until it ran out
of space, then it would possibly give one last client a reduced
allocation, then fail the allocation.

Since commit de766e5704 ("nfsd: give out fewer session slots as
limit approaches") the last 90 slots to be given to about 12
clients with quickly reducing slot counts (better than just 3
clients). This still seems unnecessarily hasty.
A subsequent patch allows over-allocation so every client gets
at least one slot, but that might be a bit restrictive.

The requested number of nfsd threads is the best guide we have to the
expected number of clients, so use that - if it is at least 8.

256 threads on a 256Meg machine - which is a lot for a tiny machine -
would result in nfsd_drc_max_mem being 2Meg, so 8K (3 slots) would be
available for the first client, and over 200 clients would get more
than 1 slot. So I don't think this change will be too debilitating on
poorly configured machines, though it does mean that a sensible
configuration is a little more important.

7f49fd5d7a nfsd: handle drc over-allocation gracefully.
Currently, if there are more clients than allowed for by the
space allocation in set_max_drc(), we fail a SESSION_CREATE
request with NFS4ERR_DELAY.
This means that the client retries indefinitely, which isn't
a user-friendly response.

The RFC requires NFS4ERR_NOSPC, but that would at best result in a
clean failure on the client, which is not much more friendly.

The current space allocation is a best-guess and doesn't provide any
guarantees, we could still run out of space when trying to allocate
drc space.

So fail more gracefully - always give out at least one slot.
If all clients used all the space in all slots, we might start getting
memory pressure, but that is possible anyway.

So ensure 'num' is always at least 1, and remove the test for it
being zero.

838c4f3d75 iomap: move the iomap_dio_rw ->end_io callback into a structure
Add a new iomap_dio_ops structure that for now just contains the end_io

which is a possible exploit vector for kernel code execution, and prepares
for adding a submit_io handler that btrfs needs.

6fe7b99014 iomap: split size and error for iomap_dio_rw ->end_io
Modify the calling convention for the iomap_dio_rw ->end_io() callback.
Rather than passing either dio->error or dio->size as the 'size' argument,
instead pass both the dio->error and the dio->size value separately.

In the instance that an error occurred during a write, we currently cannot
determine whether any blocks have been allocated beyond the current EOF and
data has subsequently been written to these blocks within the ->end_io()
callback. As a result, we cannot judge whether we should take the truncate
failed write path. Having both dio->error and dio->size will allow us to
perform such checks within this callback.

cfb82e1df8 y2038: add inode timestamp clamping
This series from Deepa Dinamani adds a per-superblock minimum/maximum
timestamp limit for a file system, and clamps timestamps as they are
written, to avoid random behavior from integer overflow as well as having
different time stamps on disk vs in memory.

At mount time, a warning is now printed for any file system that can
represent current timestamps but not future timestamps more than 30
years into the future, similar to the arbitrary 30 year limit that was
 added to settimeofday().

This was picked as a compromise to warn users to migrate to other file
systems (e.g. ext4 instead of ext3) when they need the file system to
survive beyond 2038 (or similar limits in other file systems), but not
get in the way of normal usage.

Pull xfs updates from Darrick Wong:
"For this cycle we have the usual pile of cleanups and bug fixes, some
performance improvements for online metadata scrubbing, massive
speedups in the directory entry creation code, some performance
improvement in the file ACL lookup code, a fix for a logging stall
during mount, and fixes for concurrency problems.

It has survived a couple of weeks of xfstests runs and merges cleanly.

  Summary:

   - Remove KM_SLEEP/KM_NOSLEEP.

   - Ensure that memory buffers for IO are properly sector-aligned to
avoid problems that the block layer doesn't check.

   - Make the bmap scrubber more efficient in its record checking.

   - Don't crash xfs_db when superblock inode geometry is corrupt.

   - Fix btree key helper functions.

   - Remove unneeded error returns for things that can't fail.

   - Fix buffer logging bugs in repair.

   - Clean up iterator return values.

   - Speed up directory entry creation.

   - Enable allocation of xattr value memory buffer during lookup.

f60c55a94e fs-verity for 5.4
Please consider pulling fs-verity for 5.4.

fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based
hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for
the purpose of efficient authenticity verification.

 This pull request includes:

 (a) The fs/verity/ support layer and documentation.

 (b) fs-verity support for ext4 and f2fs.

Compared to the original fs-verity patchset from last year, the UAPI to
enable fs-verity on a file has been greatly simplified. Lots of other
 things were cleaned up too.

 fs-verity is planned to be used by two different projects on Android;
most of the userspace code is in place already. Another userspace tool
("fsverity-utils"), and xfstests, are also available. e2fsprogs and
f2fs-tools already have fs-verity support. Other people have shown
 interest in using fs-verity too.

I've tested this on ext4 and f2fs with xfstests, both the existing tests
and the new fs-verity tests. This has also been in linux-next since
July 30 with no reported issues except a couple minor ones I found
myself and folded in fixes for.

 Ted and I will be co-maintaining fs-verity.

734d1ed83e fscrypt update for 5.4
This is a large update to fs/crypto/ which includes:

 - Add ioctls that add/remove encryption keys to/from a filesystem-level
keyring. These fix user-reported issues where e.g. an encrypted home
directory can break NetworkManager, sshd, Docker, etc. because they
don't get access to the needed keyring. These ioctls also provide a
way to lock encrypted directories that doesn't use the vm.drop_caches
sysctl, so is faster, more reliable, and doesn't always need root.

 - Add a new encryption policy version ("v2") which switches to a more
standard, secure, and flexible key derivation function, and starts
verifying that the correct key was supplied before using it. The key
derivation improvement is needed for its own sake as well as for
ongoing feature work for which the current way is too inflexible.

Work is in progress to update both Android and the 'fscrypt' userspace
tool to use both these features. (Working patches are available and
just need to be reviewed+merged.) Chrome OS will likely use them too.

This has also been tested on ext4, f2fs, and ubifs with xfstests -- both
the existing encryption tests, and the new tests for this. This has
also been in linux-next since Aug 16 with no reported issues. I'm also
using an fscrypt v2-encrypted home directory on my personal desktop.

a62a8ef9d9 virtio-fs: add virtiofs filesystem
Add a basic file system module for virtio-fs. This does not yet contain
shared data support between host and guest or metadata coherency speedups.
However it is already significantly faster than virtio-9p.

Design Overview
===============

With the goal of designing something with better performance and local file
system semantics, a bunch of ideas were proposed.

 - Use fuse protocol (instead of 9p) for communication between guest and
host. Guest kernel will be fuse client and a fuse server will run on
   host to serve the requests.

 - For data access inside guest, mmap portion of file in QEMU address space
and guest accesses this memory using dax. That way guest page cache is
bypassed and there is only one copy of data (on host). This will also
   enable mmap(MAP_SHARED) between guests.

 - For metadata coherency, there is a shared memory region which contains
version number associated with metadata and any guest changing metadata
updates version number and other guests refresh metadata on next access.
This is yet to be implemented.

How virtio-fs differs from existing approaches
==============================================

The unique idea behind virtio-fs is to take advantage of the co-location of
the virtual machine and hypervisor to avoid communication (vmexits).

DAX allows file contents to be accessed without communication with the
hypervisor. The shared memory region for metadata avoids communication in
the common case where metadata is unchanged.

By replacing expensive communication with cheaper shared memory accesses,
we expect to achieve better performance than approaches based on network
file system protocols. In addition, this also makes it easier to achieve
local file system semantics (coherency).

These techniques are not applicable to network file system protocols since
the communications channel is bypassed by taking advantage of shared memory
on a local machine. This is why we decided to build virtio-fs rather than
focus on 9P or NFS.

Caching Modes
=============

Like virtio-9p, different caching modes are supported which determine the
coherency level as well. The “cache=FOO” and “writeback” options control
the level of coherence between the guest and host filesystems.

 - cache=none
metadata, data and pathname lookup are not cached in guest. They are
always fetched from host and any changes are immediately pushed to host.

 - cache=always
metadata, data and pathname lookup are cached in guest and never expire.

 - cache=auto
metadata and pathname lookup cache expires after a configured amount of
time (default is 1 second). Data is cached while the file is open
   (close to open consistency).

 - writeback/no_writeback
These options control the writeback strategy. If writeback is disabled,
then normal writes will immediately be synchronized with the host fs.
If writeback is enabled, then writes may be cached in the guest until
the file is closed or an fsync(2) performed. This option has no effect
on mmap-ed writes or writes going through the DAX mechanism.

1f7d290a72 Driver core patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.

There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
 mailing list.

Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
 always gets it wrong).

There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.

There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
 issues.

5262f56798 io_uring: IORING_OP_TIMEOUT support
There's been a few requests for functionality similar to io_getevents()
and epoll_wait(), where the user can specify a timeout for waiting on
events. I deliberately did not add support for this through the system
call initially to avoid overloading the args, but I can see that the use
cases for this are valid.

This adds support for IORING_OP_TIMEOUT. If a user wants to get woken
when waiting for events, simply submit one of these timeout commands
with your wait call (or before). This ensures that the application
sleeping on the CQ ring waiting for events will get woken. The timeout
command is passed in as a pointer to a struct timespec. Timeouts are
relative. The timeout command also includes a way to auto-cancel after
N events has passed.

Merge tag 'pm-5.4-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These include a rework of the main suspend-to-idle code flow (related
to the handling of spurious wakeups), a switch over of several users
of cpufreq notifiers to QoS-based limits, a new devfreq driver for
Tegra20, a new cpuidle driver and governor for virtualized guests, an
extension of the wakeup sources framework to expose wakeup sources as
device objects in sysfs, and more.

  Specifics:

   - Rework the main suspend-to-idle control flow to avoid repeating
"noirq" device resume and suspend operations in case of spurious
wakeups from the ACPI EC and decouple the ACPI EC wakeups support
from the LPS0 _DSM support (Rafael Wysocki).

   - Extend the wakeup sources framework to expose wakeup sources as
device objects in sysfs (Tri Vo, Stephen Boyd).

   - Expose system suspend statistics in sysfs (Kalesh Singh).

   - Introduce a new haltpoll cpuidle driver and a new matching governor
for virtualized guests wanting to do guest-side polling in the idle
loop (Marcelo Tosatti, Joao Martins, Wanpeng Li, Stephen Rothwell).

   - Fix the menu and teo cpuidle governors to allow the scheduler tick
to be stopped if PM QoS is used to limit the CPU idle state exit
latency in some cases (Rafael Wysocki).

   - Increase the resolution of the play_idle() argument to microseconds
for more fine-grained injection of CPU idle cycles (Daniel
     Lezcano).

   - Switch over some users of cpuidle notifiers to the new QoS-based
frequency limits and drop the CPUFREQ_ADJUST and CPUFREQ_NOTIFY
     policy notifier events (Viresh Kumar).

   - Add new cpufreq driver based on nvmem for sun50i (Yangtao Li).

   - Add support for MT8183 and MT8516 to the mediatek cpufreq driver
     (Andrew-sh.Cheng, Fabien Parent).

   - Add i.MX8MN support to the imx-cpufreq-dt cpufreq driver (Anson
     Huang).

   - Add qcs404 to cpufreq-dt-platdev blacklist (Jorge Ramirez-Ortiz).

   - Update the qcom cpufreq driver (among other things, to make it
easier to extend and to use kryo cpufreq for other nvmem-based
SoCs) and add qcs404 support to it (Niklas Cassel, Douglas
     RAILLARD, Sibi Sankar, Sricharan R).

   - Fix assorted issues and make assorted minor improvements in the
cpufreq code (Colin Ian King, Douglas RAILLARD, Florian Fainelli,
     Gustavo Silva, Hariprasad Kelam).

   - Add new devfreq driver for NVidia Tegra20 (Dmitry Osipenko, Arnd
     Bergmann).

   - Add new Exynos PPMU events to devfreq events and extend that
     mechanism (Lukasz Luba).

   - Fix and clean up the exynos-bus devfreq driver (Kamil Konieczny).

   - Improve devfreq documentation and governor code, fix spelling typos
in devfreq (Ezequiel Garcia, Krzysztof Kozlowski, Leonard Crestez,
     MyungJoo Ham, Gaël PORTAY).

   - Add regulators enable and disable to the OPP (operating performance

Pull core timer updates from Thomas Gleixner:
 "Timers and timekeeping updates:

   - A large overhaul of the posix CPU timer code which is a preparation
for moving the CPU timer expiry out into task work so it can be
     properly accounted on the task/process.

An update to the bogus permission checks will come later during the
merge window as feedback was not complete before heading of for
     travel.

   - Switch the timerqueue code to use cached rbtrees and get rid of the
homebrewn caching of the leftmost node.

   - Consolidate hrtimer_init() + hrtimer_init_sleeper() calls into a
     single function

   - Implement the separation of hrtimers to be forced to expire in hard
interrupt context even when PREEMPT_RT is enabled and mark the
     affected timers accordingly.

   - Implement a mechanism for hrtimers and the timer wheel to protect
RT against priority inversion and live lock issues when a (hr)timer
which should be canceled is currently executing the callback.
Instead of infinitely spinning, the task which tries to cancel the
timer blocks on a per cpu base expiry lock which is held and
released by the (hr)timer expiry code.

   - Enable the Hyper-V TSC page based sched_clock for Hyper-V guests

f0b444b349 gfs2: clear buf_in_tr when ending a transaction in sweep_bh_for_rgrps
In function sweep_bh_for_rgrps, which is a helper for punch_hole,
it uses variable buf_in_tr to keep track of when it needs to commit
pending block frees on a partial delete that overflows the
transaction created for the delete. The problem is that the
variable was initialized at the start of function sweep_bh_for_rgrps
but it was never cleared, even when starting a new transaction.

This patch reinitializes the variable when the transaction is
ended, so the next transaction starts out with it cleared.

In some cases to work around server bugs or performance

7dcc82c2df smb3: improve handling of share deleted (and share recreated)
When a share is deleted, returning EIO is confusing and no useful
information is logged. Improve the handling of this case by
at least logging a better error for this (and also mapping the error
differently to EREMCHG). See e.g. the new messages that would be logged:

[55243.639530] server share \\192.168.1.219\scratch deleted
[55243.642568] CIFS VFS: \\192.168.1.219\scratch BAD_NETWORK_NAME: \\192.168.1.219\scratch

In addition for the case where a share is deleted and then recreated
with the same name, have now fixed that so it works. This is sometimes
done for example, because the admin had to move a share to a different,
bigger local drive when a share is running low on space.
