Maintainer Updates
* Add 3 designated reviewers for IIO. Lars, Peter and Hartmut have been
actively reviewing a lot of patches for a while now so this reflects
the status quo. These three are probably the only reason I keep
my head above the water!
New drivers and device support
* max5821 DAC
* Rockchip SARADC
* TI ADC128S052 ADC
* BMC150 Accelerometer
* exynos ADC driver gains support for s3c24xx and s3c64xx parts.
* kxcjk-1013 gainst range control and runtime PM support to drive
down it's power usage.
Driver removals
* Drop ad5930, ad99850, ad9852, ad9910 and ad9951 drivers on the simple
basis that they drivers just provided a register write function with
no compliant user space ABI whatsoever. Much better to drop them and
start again for these in the fullness of time.
Core Enhancements
* Join together neighbouring elements in the demux units that feeds
the binary interfaces. This cuts down on the number of individual
copies needed when splitting out individual channels from the incoming
channel scans.
* Other demux related cleanups such as using roundup instead of a local
implementation.
Cleanups
* Drop an unnecessary double setting of the owner field in xilinx adc.
* Some more patches to use managed (devm) interfaces to cut down on
complexity of removal code.
* adis16060 coding style fixlets.
* Fix some incorrect error returns in the Xilinx ADC driver.
* Coding style fixlets for various accelerometer drivers.
* Some sparse warning fixes to do with endianness and sign of variables.
* Fix an incorrect and entirely pointless use of sizeof on a dynamic pointer
in hid-sensor-magn-3d by dropping the relevant code.

This patchset implements creation of sysfs groups and attributes with
the purpose to show NILFS2 volume details, internal state of the driver
and to manage internal state of NILFS2 driver.
Sysfs is a virtual file system that exports information about devices
and drivers from the kernel device model to user space, and is also used
for configuration. NILFS2 is a complex file system that has segctor
thread, GC thread, checkpoint/snapshot model and so on. Sysfs namespace
provides native and easy way for: (1) getting info and statistics about
volume state; (2) getting info and configuration of internal subsystems
(segctor thread); (3) snapshots management.
Suggested patchset provides basis for managing segctor thread behaviour
and manipulation by snapshots. Currently, it informs only about segctor
thread's internal parameters and about mounted snapshots. But sysfs
interface can provide easy and simple way for deep management of segctor
thread and snapshots.
This patchset provides opportunity to manage interval of periodical
update of superblock (in seconds). Default value is 10 seconds. Now a
user can increase this value by means of
nilfs2/<device>/superblock/sb_update_frequency attribute in the case of
necessity.
Also the patchset provides opportunity to get information easily about
key volumes's parameters (free blocks, superblock write count,
superblock update frequency, latest segment info, dirty data blocks
count, count of clean segments, count of dirty segments and so on) in
real time manner. Such information can be used in scripts for subtle
management of filesystem.
Implemented functionality creates such groups:
(1) /sys/fs/nilfs2 - root group
(2) /sys/fs/nilfs2/features - group contains attributes that describe NILFS

This patch (of 9):
This patch adds code of creation /sys/fs/nilfs2 group and
/sys/fs/nilfs2/features group.
The features group contains attributes that describe NILFS
file system driver features:
(1) revision - show current revision of NILFS file system driver.
There are two formats of timestamp output - seconds and human-readable
format. Every showed timestamp has two sysfs files (time-<xxx> and
time-<xxx>-secs). One sysfs file (time-<xxx>) shows time in
human-readable format. Another sysfs file (time-<xxx>-secs) shows time in
seconds.
It was reported by Michael Semon that timestamp output in human-readable
format should be changed from "2014-4-12 14:5:38" to "2014-04-12
14:05:38". Second version of the patch fixes this issue.

This merge window brings a good size of cleanups on various
platforms. Among the bigger ones:
* Removal of Samsung s5pc100 and s5p64xx platforms. Both of these have
lacked active support for quite a while, and after asking around nobody
showed interest in keeping them around. If needed, they could be
resurrected in the future but it's more likely that we would prefer
reintroduction of them as DT and multiplatform-enabled platforms
instead.
* OMAP4 controller code register define diet. They defined a lot of registers
that were never actually used, etc.
* Move of some of the Tegra platform code (PMC, APBIO, fuse, powergate)
to drivers/soc so it can be shared with 64-bit code. This also converts them
over to traditional driver models where possible.
* Removal of legacy gpio-samsung driver, since the last users have been
removed (moved to pinctrl)
Plus a bunch of smaller changes for various platforms that sort of
dissapear in the diffstat for the above. clps711x cleanups, shmobile
header file refactoring/moves for multiplatform friendliness, some misc
cleanups, etc.

Now the devices show up under hid no matter the connection (for USB
and Bluetooth, not serial nor i2c).
The USB devices can now be easily found under
/sys/bus/hid/devices/<bus>:<vid>:<pid>.<n>
The Bluetooth devices could also be found under this path since their
inclusion (April 2010), so this patch fixes the non-precise "hidraw*" path
for them.
The ABI has been unified while setting the LEDs and OLEDs. So Bluetooth
devices lost their own LED selector but use the USB sysfs attribute.
For OLEDs, Bluetooth devices handle only 1-bit images instead of 4 for USB.
The documentation has been updated to match this.

Add tunable RX interrupt trigger I/F of FIFO buffers.
Serial devices are used as not only message communication devices but control
or sending communication devices. For the latter uses, normally small data
will be exchanged, so user applications want to receive data unit as soon as
possible for real-time tendency. If we have a sensor which sends a 1 byte data
each time and must control a device based on the sensor feedback, the RX
interrupt should be triggered for each data.
According to HW specification of serial UART devices, RX interrupt trigger
can be changed, but the trigger is hard-coded. For example, RX interrupt trigger
in 16550A can be set to 1, 4, 8, or 14 bytes for HW, but current driver sets
the trigger to only 8bytes.
This patch makes some devices change RX interrupt trigger from userland.
<How to use>
- Read current setting
# cat /sys/class/tty/ttyS0/rx_trig_bytes
8
- Write user setting
# echo 1 > /sys/class/tty/ttyS0/rx_trig_bytes
# cat /sys/class/tty/ttyS0/rx_trig_bytes
1
<Support uart devices>
- 16550A and Tegra (1, 4, 8, or 14 bytes)
- 16650V2 (8, 16, 24, or 28 bytes)
- 16654 (8, 16, 56, or 60 bytes)
- 16750 (1, 16, 32, or 56 bytes)
<Change log>
Changes in V9:
- Use attr_group instead of dev_spec_attr_group of uart_port structure
Changes in V8:
- Divide this patch from V7's patch based on Greg's comment
Changes in V7:
- Add Documentation
- Change I/F name from rx_int_trig to rx_trig_bytes because the name
rx_int_trig is hard to understand how users specify the value
Changes in V6:
- Move FCR_RX_TRIG_* definition in 8250.h to include/uapi/linux/serial_reg.h,
rename those to UART_FCR_R_TRIG_*, and use UART_FCR_TRIGGER_MASK to
UART_FCR_R_TRIG_BITS()
- Change following function names:
convert_fcr2val() => fcr_get_rxtrig_bytes()
convert_val2rxtrig() => bytes_to_fcr_rxtrig()
- Fix typo in serial8250_do_set_termios()
- Delete the verbose error message pr_info() in bytes_to_fcr_rxtrig()
- Rename *rx_int_trig/rx_trig* to *rxtrig* for several functions or variables
(but UI remains rx_int_trig)
- Change the meaningless variable name 'val' to 'bytes' following functions:
fcr_get_rxtrig_bytes(), bytes_to_fcr_rxtrig(), do_set_rxtrig(),
do_serial8250_set_rxtrig(), and serial8250_set_attr_rxtrig()
- Use up->fcr in order to get rxtrig_bytes instead of rx_trig_raw in
fcr_get_rxtrig_bytes()
- Use conf_type->rxtrig_bytes[0] instead of switch statement for support check
in register_dev_spec_attr_grp()
- Delete the checking whether a user changed FCR or not when minimum buffer
is needed in serial8250_do_set_termios()
Changes in V5.1:
- Fix FCR_RX_TRIG_MAX_STATE definition
Changes in V5:
- Support Tegra, 16650V2, 16654, and 16750
- Store default FCR value to up->fcr when the port is first created
- Add rx_trig_byte[] in uart_config[] for each device and use rx_trig_byte[]
in convert_fcr2val() and convert_val2rxtrig()
Changes in V4:
- Introduce fifo_bug flag in uart_8250_port structure
This is enabled only when parity is enabled and UART_BUG_PARITY is enabled
for up->bugs. If this flag is enabled, user cannot set RX trigger.
- Return -EOPNOTSUPP when it does not support device at convert_fcr2val() and
at convert_val2rxtrig()
- Set the nearest lower RX trigger when users input a meaningless value at
convert_val2rxtrig()
- Check whether p->fcr is existing at serial8250_clear_and_reinit_fifos()
- Set fcr = up->fcr in the begging of serial8250_do_set_termios()
Changes in V3:
- Change I/F from ioctl(2) to sysfs(rx_int_trig)
Changed in V2:
- Use _IOW for TIOCSFIFORTRIG definition
- Pass the interrupt trigger value itself

OTG3 and EH Compliance Plan 1.0 talks about Super Speed OTG Verification
system (SS-OVS) which consists of an excersizer and analyzer.
USB Compliance Suite from Lecroy or Ellisys can act as such SS-OVS for
Link Layer Validation (LVS).
Some modifications are needed for an embedded Linux USB host to pass all
these tests. Most of these tests require just Link to be in U0. They do
not work with default Linux USB stack since, default stack does port
reset and then starts sending setup packet, which is not expected by
Link Layer Validation (LVS) device of Lecroy Compliance Suit. Then,
There are many Link Layer Tests which need host to generate specific
traffic.
This patch supports specific traffic generation cases. As of now all the
host Lecroy Link Layer-USBIF tests (except TD7.26) passes
with this patch for single run using Lecroy USB Compliance Suite
Version 1.98 Build 239 and Lecroy USB Protocol Analyzer version 4.80
Build 1603. Therefore patch seems to be a good candidate for inclusion.
Further modification can be done on top of it.
lvstest driver will not bind to any device by default. It can bind
manually to a super speed USB host controller root hub. Therefore, regular
hub driver must be unbound before this driver is bound. For example, if
2-0:1.0 is the xhci root hub, then execute following to unbind hub driver.
echo 2-0:1.0 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/hub/unbind
Then write Linux Foundation's vendor ID which is used by root hubs and
SS root hub's device ID into new_id file. Writing IDs into new_id file
will also bind the lvs driver with any available SS root hub interfaces.
echo "1D6B 3" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/lvs/new_id
Now connect LVS device with root hub port.
Test case specific traffic can be generated as follows whenever needed:
1. To issue "Get Device descriptor" command for TD.7.06:
echo > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/get_dev_desc
2. To set U1 timeout to 127 for TD.7.18
echo 127 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/u1_timeout
3. To set U2 timeout to 0 for TD.7.18
echo 0 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/u2_timeout
4. To issue "Hot Reset" for TD.7.29
echo > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/hot_reset
5. To issue "U3 Entry" for TD.7.35
echo > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/u3_entry
6. To issue "U3 Exit" for TD.7.36
echo > /sys/bus/usb/devices/2-0\:1.0/u3_exit

Based on a patch by David Herrmann.
The name_assign_type attribute gives hints where the interface name of a
given net-device comes from. These values are currently defined:
NET_NAME_ENUM:
The ifname is provided by the kernel with an enumerated
suffix, typically based on order of discovery. Names may
be reused and unpredictable.
NET_NAME_PREDICTABLE:
The ifname has been assigned by the kernel in a predictable way
that is guaranteed to avoid reuse and always be the same for a
given device. Examples include statically created devices like
the loopback device and names deduced from hardware properties
(including being given explicitly by the firmware). Names
depending on the order of discovery, or in any other way on the
existence of other devices, must not be marked as PREDICTABLE.
NET_NAME_USER:
The ifname was provided by user-space during net-device setup.
NET_NAME_RENAMED:
The net-device has been renamed from userspace. Once this type is set,
it cannot change again.
NET_NAME_UNKNOWN:
This is an internal placeholder to indicate that we yet haven't yet
categorized the name. It will not be exposed to userspace, rather
-EINVAL is returned.
The aim of these patches is to improve user-space renaming of interfaces. As
a general rule, userspace must rename interfaces to guarantee that names stay
the same every time a given piece of hardware appears (at boot, or when
attaching it). However, there are several situations where userspace should
not perform the renaming, and that depends on both the policy of the local
admin, but crucially also on the nature of the current interface name.
If an interface was created in repsonse to a userspace request, and userspace
already provided a name, we most probably want to leave that name alone. The
main instance of this is wifi-P2P devices created over nl80211, which currently
have a long-standing bug where they are getting renamed by udev. We label such
names NET_NAME_USER.
If an interface, unbeknown to us, has already been renamed from userspace, we
most probably want to leave also that alone. This will typically happen when
third-party plugins (for instance to udev, but the interface is generic so could
be from anywhere) renames the interface without informing udev about it. A
typical situation is when you switch root from an installer or an initrd to the
real system and the new instance of udev does not know what happened before
the switch. These types of problems have caused repeated issues in the past. To
solve this, once an interface has been renamed, its name is labelled
NET_NAME_RENAMED.
In many cases, the kernel is actually able to name interfaces in such a
way that there is no need for userspace to rename them. This is the case when
the enumeration order of devices, or in fact any other (non-parent) device on
the system, can not influence the name of the interface. Examples include
statically created devices, or any naming schemes based on hardware properties
of the interface. In this case the admin may prefer to use the kernel-provided
names, and to make that possible we label such names NET_NAME_PREDICTABLE.
We want the kernel to have tho possibilty of performing predictable interface
naming itself (and exposing to userspace that it has), as the information
necessary for a proper naming scheme for a certain class of devices may not
be exposed to userspace.
The case where renaming is almost certainly desired, is when the kernel has
given the interface a name using global device enumeration based on order of
discovery (ethX, wlanY, etc). These naming schemes are labelled NET_NAME_ENUM.
Lastly, a fallback is left as NET_NAME_UNKNOWN, to indicate that a driver has
not yet been ported. This is mostly useful as a transitionary measure, allowing
us to label the various naming schemes bit by bit.

Needed by platform device drivers, such as the upcoming
vfio-platform driver, in order to bypass the existing OF, ACPI,
id_table and name string matches, and successfully be able to be
bound to any device, like so:
echo vfio-platform > /sys/bus/platform/devices/fff51000.ethernet/driver_override
echo fff51000.ethernet > /sys/bus/platform/devices/fff51000.ethernet/driver/unbind

Register our DRHD IOMMUs, cross link devices, and provide a base set
of attributes for the IOMMU. Note that IRQ remapping support parses
the DMAR table very early in boot, well before the iommu_class can
reasonably be setup, so our registration is split between
intel_iommu_init(), which occurs later, and alloc_iommu(), which
typically occurs much earlier, but may happen at any time later
with IOMMU hot-add support.

/sys/devices/virtual/iommu/dmar1/intel-iommu/version
/sys/class/iommu/dmar0
/sys/class/iommu/dmar1
(devices also link back to the dmar units)
This makes address, version, capabilities, and extended capabilities
available, just like printed on boot. I've tried not to duplicate
data that can be found in the DMAR table, with the exception of the
address, which provides an easy way to associate the sysfs device with
a DRHD entry in the DMAR. It's tempting to add scopes and RMRR data
here, but the full DMAR table is already exposed under /sys/firmware/
and therefore already provides a way for userspace to learn such
details.

IOMMUs currently have no common representation to userspace, most
seem to have no representation at all aside from a few printks
on bootup. There are however features of IOMMUs that are useful
to know about. For instance the IOMMU might support superpages,
making use of processor large/huge pages more important in a device
assignment scenario. It's also useful to create cross links between
devices and IOMMU hardware units, so that users might be able to
load balance their devices to avoid thrashing a single hardware unit.
This patch adds a device create and destroy interface as well as
device linking, making it very lightweight for an IOMMU driver to add
basic support. IOMMU drivers can provide additional attributes
automatically by using an attribute_group.
The attributes exposed are expected to be relatively device specific,
the means to retrieve them certainly are, so there are currently no
common attributes for the new class created here.

Pull powerpc updates from Ben Herrenschmidt:
"Here is the bulk of the powerpc changes for this merge window. It got
a bit delayed in part because I wasn't paying attention, and in part
because I discovered I had a core PCI change without a PCI maintainer
ack in it. Bjorn eventually agreed it was ok to merge it though we'll
probably improve it later and I didn't want to rebase to add his ack.
There is going to be a bit more next week, essentially fixes that I
still want to sort through and test.
The biggest item this time is the support to build the ppc64 LE kernel
with our new v2 ABI. We previously supported v2 userspace but the
kernel itself was a tougher nut to crack. This is now sorted mostly
thanks to Anton and Rusty.
We also have a fairly big series from Cedric that add support for
64-bit LE zImage boot wrapper. This was made harder by the fact that
traditionally our zImage wrapper was always 32-bit, but our new LE
toolchains don't really support 32-bit anymore (it's somewhat there
but not really "supported") so we didn't want to rely on it. This
meant more churn that just endian fixes.
This brings some more LE bits as well, such as the ability to run in
LE mode without a hypervisor (ie. under OPAL firmware) by doing the
right OPAL call to reinitialize the CPU to take HV interrupts in the
right mode and the usual pile of endian fixes.
There's another series from Gavin adding EEH improvements (one day we
*will* have a release with less than 20 EEH patches, I promise!).
Another highlight is the support for the "Split core" functionality on
P8 by Michael. This allows a P8 core to be split into "sub cores" of
4 threads which allows the subcores to run different guests under KVM
(the HW still doesn't support a partition per thread).
And then the usual misc bits and fixes ..."

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"ACPICA is the leader this time (63 commits), followed by cpufreq (28
commits), devfreq (15 commits), system suspend/hibernation (12
commits), ACPI video and ACPI device enumeration (10 commits each).
We have no major new features this time, but there are a few
significant changes of how things work. The most visible one will
probably be that we are now going to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices by default for ACPI device objects with _HID. That
was long overdue and will be really necessary to be able to use the
same drivers for the same hardware blocks on ACPI and DT-based systems
going forward. We're not expecting fallout from this one (as usual),
but it's something to watch nevertheless.
The second change having a chance to be visible is that ACPI video
will now default to using native backlight rather than the ACPI
backlight interface which should generally help systems with broken
Win8 BIOSes. We're hoping that all problems with the native backlight
handling that we had previously have been addressed and we are in a
good enough shape to flip the default, but this change should be easy
enough to revert if need be.
In addition to that, the system suspend core has a new mechanism to
allow runtime-suspended devices to stay suspended throughout system
suspend/resume transitions if some extra conditions are met
(generally, they are related to coordination within device hierarchy).
However, enabling this feature requires cooperation from the bus type
layer and for now it has only been implemented for the ACPI PM domain
(used by ACPI-enumerated platform devices mostly today).
Also, the acpidump utility that was previously shipped as a separate
tool will now be provided by the upstream ACPICA along with the rest
of ACPICA code, which will allow it to be more up to date and better
supported, and we have one new cpuidle driver (ARM clps711x).
The rest is improvements related to certain specific use cases,
cleanups and fixes all over the place.
Specifics:
- ACPICA update to upstream version 20140424. That includes a number
of fixes and improvements related to things like GPE handling,
table loading, headers, memory mapping and unmapping, DSDT/SSDT
overriding, and the Unload() operator. The acpidump utility from

Files are measured or appraised based on the IMA policy. When a
file, in policy, is opened with the O_DIRECT flag, a deadlock
occurs.
The first attempt at resolving this lockdep temporarily removed the
O_DIRECT flag and restored it, after calculating the hash. The
second attempt introduced the O_DIRECT_HAVELOCK flag. Based on this
flag, do_blockdev_direct_IO() would skip taking the i_mutex a second
time. The third attempt, by Dmitry Kasatkin, resolves the i_mutex
locking issue, by re-introducing the IMA mutex, but uncovered
another problem. Reading a file with O_DIRECT flag set, writes
directly to userspace pages. A second patch allocates a user-space
like memory. This works for all IMA hooks, except ima_file_free(),
which is called on __fput() to recalculate the file hash.
Until this last issue is addressed, do not 'collect' the
measurement for measuring, appraising, or auditing files opened
with the O_DIRECT flag set. Based on policy, permit or deny file
access. This patch defines a new IMA policy rule option named
'permit_directio'. Policy rules could be defined, based on LSM
or other criteria, to permit specific applications to open files
with the O_DIRECT flag set.
Changelog v1:
- permit or deny file access based IMA policy rules

Here is the big USB driver pull request for 3.16-rc1.
Nothing huge here, but lots of little things in the USB core, and in
lots of drivers. Hopefully the USB power management will be work better
now that it has been reworked to do per-port power control dynamically.
There's also a raft of gadget driver updates and fixes, CONFIG_USB_DEBUG
is finally gone now that everything has been converted over to the
dynamic debug inteface, the last hold-out drivers were cleaned up and
the config option removed. There were also other minor things all
through the drivers/usb/ tree, the shortlog shows this pretty well.
All have been in linux-next, including the very last patch, which came
from linux-next to fix a build issue on some platforms.

Lots of stuff here, tons of cleanup patches, a few new drivers, and some

deleted.
One notible bit of work did stand out, Jes Sorensen has gone on a tear,

SoC-near driver changes that we're merging through our tree. Mostly
because they depend on other changes we have staged, but in some cases
because the driver maintainers preferred that we did it this way.
This contains a largeish cleanup series of the omap_l3_noc bus driver,
cpuidle rework for Exynos, some reset driver conversions and a long
branch of TI EDMA fixes and cleanups, with more to come next release.
The TI EDMA cleanups is a shared branch with the dmaengine tree, with
a handful of Davinci-specific fixes on top.
After discussion at last year's KS (and some more on the mailing lists),
we are here adding a drivers/soc directory. The purpose of this is
to keep per-vendor shared code that's needed by different drivers but
that doesn't fit into the MFD (nor drivers/platform) model. We expect
to keep merging contents for this hierarchy through arm-soc so we can
keep an eye on what the vendors keep adding here and not making it a
free-for-all to shove in crazy stuff.

Conflicts:
drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c
The driver_override field allows us to specify the driver for a device
rather than relying on the driver to provide a positive match of the
device. This shortcuts the existing process of looking up the vendor and
device ID, adding them to the driver new_id, binding the device, then
removing the ID, but it also provides a couple advantages.
First, the above existing process allows the driver to bind to any device
matching the new_id for the window where it's enabled. This is often not
desired, such as the case of trying to bind a single device to a meta
driver like pci-stub or vfio-pci. Using driver_override we can do this
deterministically using:
echo pci-stub > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver_override
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers_probe
Previously we could not invoke drivers_probe after adding a device to
new_id for a driver as we get non-deterministic behavior whether the driver
we intend or the standard driver will claim the device. Now it becomes a
deterministic process, only the driver matching driver_override will probe
the device.
To return the device to the standard driver, we simply clear the
driver_override and reprobe the device:
echo > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver_override
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:03:00.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers_probe
Another advantage to this approach is that we can specify a driver override
to force a specific binding or prevent any binding. For instance when an
IOMMU group is exposed to userspace through VFIO we require that all
devices within that group are owned by VFIO. However, devices can be
hot-added into an IOMMU group, in which case we want to prevent the device
from binding to any driver (override driver = "none") or perhaps have it
automatically bind to vfio-pci. With driver_override it's a simple matter
for this field to be set internally when the device is first discovered to
prevent driver matches.

On some systems the platform doesn't support neither
PM_SUSPEND_MEM nor PM_SUSPEND_STANDBY, so PM_SUSPEND_FREEZE is the
only available system sleep state. However, some user space frameworks
only use the "mem" and (sometimes) "standby" sleep state labels, so
the users of those systems need to modify user space in order to be
able to use system suspend at all and that is not always possible.
For this reason, add a new kernel command line argument,
relative_sleep_states, allowing the users of those systems to change
the way in which the kernel assigns labels to system sleep states.
Namely, for relative_sleep_states=1, the "mem", "standby" and "freeze"
labels will enumerate the available system sleem states from the
deepest to the shallowest, respectively, so that "mem" is always
present in /sys/power/state and the other state strings may or may
not be presend depending on what is supported by the platform.
Update system sleep states documentation to reflect this change.

Add handling of OS Extended Properties descriptors from configfs interface.
One kind of "OS Descriptors" are "Extended Properties" descriptors, which
need to be specified per interface or per group of interfaces described
by an IAD. This patch adds support for creating subdirectories
in interface.<n> directory located in the function's directory.
Names of subdirectories created become names of properties.
Each property contains two attributes: "type" and "data".
The type can be a numeric value 1..7 while data is a blob interpreted
depending on the type specified.
The types are:
1 - unicode string
2 - unicode string with environment variables
3 - binary
4 - little-endian 32-bit
5 - big-endian 32-bit
6 - unicode string with a symbolic link
7 - multiple unicode strings

Add handling of OS Extended Compatibility descriptors from configfs interface.
Hosts which expect the "OS Descriptors" ask only for configurations @ index 0,
but linux-based USB devices can provide more than one configuration.
This patch adds marking one of gadget's configurations the configuration
to be reported at index 0, regardless of the actual sequence of usb_add_config
invocations used for adding the configurations. The configuration is selected
by creating a symbolic link pointing to it from the "os_desc" directory
located at the top of a gadget's directory hierarchy.
One kind of "OS Descriptors" are "Extended Compatibility Descriptors",
which need to be specified per interface. This patch adds interface.<n>
directory in function's configfs directory to represent each interface
defined by the function. Each interface's directory contains two attributes:
"compatible_id" and "sub_compatible_id", which represent 8-byte
strings to be reported to the host as the "Compatible ID" and "Sub Compatible
ID".

Add handling of OS String extension from the configfs interface.
A directory "os_desc" is added at the top level of a gadget's
directories hierarchy. In the "os_desc" directory there are
three attributes: "use", "b_vendor_code" and "qw_sign".
If "use" contains "0" the OS string is not reported to the host.
"b_vendor_code" contains a one-byte value which is used
for custom per-device and per-interface requests.
"qw_sign" contains an identifier to be reported as the "OS String"
proper.

This patch refactors the way the thingm driver registers a blink(1) LED.
In order to make the driver simpler and more standard, drop the "rgb"
sysfs attribute and create one instance of LED class per RGB channel.
Actually, the name of the LED class instance registered for a blink(1)
device is "blink1::ABCD", where ABCD is the last 4 chars of the serial
number. The driver now registers 3 instances per RGB chip, named
"thingmX:{red, green, blue}:ledY" where X is the hidraw minor number and Y
is the RGB chip number (as seen by the firmware).
This patch also uses work queues to defer calls with the device, which
now allows triggers to work as expected with this LED device.
Also remove the brightness structure field and the brightness_get
backend, as it is already handled by the LED class, and changes the
prefix of functions and structures to thingm_ to match the driver name.

As for the "play" sysfs attribute, remove this other non-standard
attribute, so the driver only implements what is required to switch the
LED on and off. Thus, a fade time won't be ideal for some fast-changing
triggers.

When the thingm driver registers an instance of LED class, it creates a
"play" sysfs attribute for this blink(1) specific feature.
Since this feature is not specific to the RGB chip but to the HID device
itself, let's remove this attribute from the LED instance and only
implement what is useful to switch on and off the LED.
This feature is still easily accessible through hidraw.

Existing zram (zcomp) implementation has only one compression stream
(buffer and algorithm private part), so in order to prevent data
corruption only one write (compress operation) can use this compression
stream, forcing all concurrent write operations to wait for stream lock
to be released. This patch changes zcomp to keep a compression streams
list of user-defined size (via sysfs device attr). Each write operation
still exclusively holds compression stream, the difference is that we
can have N write operations (depending on size of streams list)
executing in parallel. See TEST section later in commit message for
performance data.
Introduce struct zcomp_strm_multi and a set of functions to manage
zcomp_strm stream access. zcomp_strm_multi has a list of idle
zcomp_strm structs, spinlock to protect idle list and wait queue, making
it possible to perform parallel compressions.
The following set of functions added:
- zcomp_strm_multi_find()/zcomp_strm_multi_release()
find and release a compression stream, implement required locking
- zcomp_strm_multi_create()/zcomp_strm_multi_destroy()
create and destroy zcomp_strm_multi
zcomp ->strm_find() and ->strm_release() callbacks are set during
initialisation to zcomp_strm_multi_find()/zcomp_strm_multi_release()
correspondingly.
Each time zcomp issues a zcomp_strm_multi_find() call, the following set
of operations performed:
- spin lock strm_lock
- if idle list is not empty, remove zcomp_strm from idle list, spin
unlock and return zcomp stream pointer to caller
- if idle list is empty, current adds itself to wait queue. it will be
awaken by zcomp_strm_multi_release() caller.
zcomp_strm_multi_release():
- spin lock strm_lock
- add zcomp stream to idle list
- spin unlock, wake up sleeper
Minchan Kim reported that spinlock-based locking scheme has demonstrated
a severe perfomance regression for single compression stream case,
comparing to mutex-based (see https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/18/16)

When only one compression stream available, mutex with spin on owner
tends to perform much better than frequent wait_event()/wake_up(). This
is why single stream implemented as a special case with mutex locking.
Introduce and document zram device attribute max_comp_streams. This
attr shows and stores current zcomp's max number of zcomp streams
(max_strm). Extend zcomp's zcomp_create() with `max_strm' parameter.
`max_strm' limits the number of zcomp_strm structs in compression
backend's idle list (max_comp_streams).
max_comp_streams used during initialisation as follows:
-- passing to zcomp_create() max_strm equals to 1 will initialise zcomp
using single compression stream zcomp_strm_single (mutex-based locking).
-- passing to zcomp_create() max_strm greater than 1 will initialise zcomp
using multi compression stream zcomp_strm_multi (spinlock-based locking).
default max_comp_streams value is 1, meaning that zram with single stream
will be initialised.
Later patch will introduce configuration knob to change max_comp_streams
on already initialised and used zcomp.

The of_graph_get_next_endpoint() function was moved and renamed by

v4l2_of_get_next_endpoint() and lived in the file

In that original location, it was then fixed to support empty port

Updates to devicetree core code. This branch contains the following notable changes:
* Add reserved memory binding
* Make struct device_node a kobject and remove legacy /proc/device-tree
* ePAPR conformance fixes
* Update in-kernel DTC copy to version v1.4.0
* Preparation changes for dynamic device tree overlays
* minor bug fixes and documentation changes

"This time around, the powerpc merges are going to be a little bit more
complicated than usual.
This is the main pull request with most of the work for this merge
window. I will describe it a bit more further down.
There is some additional cpuidle driver work, however I haven't
included it in this tree as it depends on some work in tip/timer-core
which Thomas accidentally forgot to put in a topic branch. Since I
didn't want to carry all of that tip timer stuff in powerpc -next, I
setup a separate branch on top of Thomas tree with just that cpuidle
driver in it, and Stephen has been carrying that in next separately
for a while now. I'll send a separate pull request for it.
Additionally, two new pieces in this tree add users for a sysfs API
that Tejun and Greg have been deprecating in drivers-core-next.
Thankfully Greg reverted the patch that removes the old API so this
merge can happen cleanly, but once merged, I will send a patch
adjusting our new code to the new API so that Greg can send you the
removal patch.
Now as for the content of this branch, we have a lot of perf work for
power8 new counters including support for our new "nest" counters
(also called 24x7) under pHyp (not natively yet).
We have new functionality when running under the OPAL firmware
(non-virtualized or KVM host), such as access to the firmware error
logs and service processor dumps, system parameters and sensors, along
with a hwmon driver for the latter.
There's also a bunch of bug fixes accross the board, some LE fixes,
and a nice set of selftests for validating our various types of copy
loops.
On the Freescale side, we see mostly new chip/board revisions, some
clock updates, better support for machine checks and debug exceptions,

This patch introduces ram_thresh, a sysfs entry, which controls the memory
footprint used by the free nid list and the nat cache.
Previously, the free nid list was controlled by MAX_FREE_NIDS, while the nat
cache was managed by NM_WOUT_THRESHOLD.
However, this approach cannot be applied dynamically according to the system.
So, this patch adds ram_thresh that users can specify the threshold, which is
in order of 1 / 1024.
For example, if the total ram size is 4GB and the value is set to 10 by default,
f2fs tries to control the number of free nids and nat caches not to consume over
10 * (4GB / 1024) = 10MB.

Users have reported being unable to trace non-signed modules loaded
within a kernel supporting module signature.
This is caused by tracepoint.c:tracepoint_module_coming() refusing to
take into account tracepoints sitting within force-loaded modules
(TAINT_FORCED_MODULE). The reason for this check, in the first place, is
that a force-loaded module may have a struct module incompatible with
the layout expected by the kernel, and can thus cause a kernel crash
upon forced load of that module on a kernel with CONFIG_TRACEPOINTS=y.
Tracepoints, however, specifically accept TAINT_OOT_MODULE and
TAINT_CRAP, since those modules do not lead to the "very likely system
crash" issue cited above for force-loaded modules.
With kernels having CONFIG_MODULE_SIG=y (signed modules), a non-signed
module is tainted re-using the TAINT_FORCED_MODULE taint flag.
Unfortunately, this means that Tracepoints treat that module as a
force-loaded module, and thus silently refuse to consider any tracepoint
within this module.
Since an unsigned module does not fit within the "very likely system
crash" category of tainting, add a new TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE taint flag
to specifically address this taint behavior, and accept those modules
within Tracepoints. We use the letter 'X' as a taint flag character for
a module being loaded that doesn't know how to sign its name (proposed
by Steven Rostedt).
Also add the missing 'O' entry to trace event show_module_flags() list
for the sake of completeness.

Device tree nodes are already treated as objects, and we already want to
expose them to userspace which is done using the /proc filesystem today.
Right now the kernel has to do a lot of work to keep the /proc view in
sync with the in-kernel representation. If device_nodes are switched to
be kobjects then the device tree code can be a whole lot simpler. It
also turns out that switching to using /sysfs from /proc results in
smaller code and data size, and the userspace ABI won't change if
/proc/device-tree symlinks to /sys/firmware/devicetree/base.

This enables support for userspace to fetch and initiate FSP and
Platform dumps from the service processor (via firmware) through sysfs.
Based on original patch from Vasant Hegde <hegdevasant@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
Flow:
- We register for OPAL notification events.
- OPAL sends new dump available notification.
- We make information on dump available via sysfs
- Userspace requests dump contents
- We retrieve the dump via OPAL interface
- User copies the dump data
- userspace sends ack for dump
- We send ACK to OPAL.
sysfs files:
- We add the /sys/firmware/opal/dump directory
- echoing 1 (well, anything, but in future we may support
different dump types) to /sys/firmware/opal/dump/initiate_dump
will initiate a dump.
- Each dump that we've been notified of gets a directory
in /sys/firmware/opal/dump/ with a name of the dump type and ID (in hex,
as this is what's used elsewhere to identify the dump).
- Each dump has files: id, type, dump and acknowledge
dump is binary and is the dump itself.
echoing 'ack' to acknowledge (currently any string will do) will
acknowledge the dump and it will soon after disappear from sysfs.
OPAL APIs:
- opal_dump_init()
- opal_dump_info()
- opal_dump_read()
- opal_dump_ack()
- opal_dump_resend_notification()
Currently we are only ever notified for one dump at a time (until
the user explicitly acks the current dump, then we get a notification

Based on a patch by: Mahesh Salgaonkar <mahesh@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
This patch adds support to read error logs from OPAL and export
them to userspace through a sysfs interface.
We export each log entry as a directory in /sys/firmware/opal/elog/
Currently, OPAL will buffer up to 128 error log records, we don't
need to have any knowledge of this limit on the Linux side as that
is actually largely transparent to us.
Each error log entry has the following files: id, type, acknowledge, raw.
Currently we just export the raw binary error log in the 'raw' attribute.
In a future patch, we may parse more of the error log to make it a bit
easier for userspace (e.g. to be able to display a brief summary in
petitboot without having to have a full parser).
If we have >128 logs from OPAL, we'll only be notified of 128 until
userspace starts acknowledging them. This limitation may be lifted in
the future and with this patch, that should "just work" from the linux side.
A userspace daemon should:
- wait for error log entries using normal mechanisms (we announce creation)
- read error log entry
- save error log entry safely to disk
- acknowledge the error log entry
- rinse, repeat.
On the Linux side, we read the error log when we're notified of it. This
possibly isn't ideal as it would be better to only read them on-demand.
However, this doesn't really work with current OPAL interface, so we
read the error log immediately when notified at the moment.
I've tested this pretty extensively and am rather confident that the
linux side of things works rather well. There is currently an issue with
the service processor side of things for >128 error logs though.

The SIT driver conflict consists of a bug fix being done by hand

Add a new latency tolerance device PM QoS type to be use for
specifying active state (RPM_ACTIVE) memory access (DMA) latency
tolerance requirements for devices. It may be used to prevent
hardware from choosing overly aggressive energy-saving operation
modes (causing too much latency to appear) for the whole platform.
This feature reqiures hardware support, so it only will be
available for devices having a new .set_latency_tolerance()
callback in struct dev_pm_info populated, in which case the
routine pointed to by it should implement whatever is necessary
to transfer the effective requirement value to the hardware.
Whenever the effective latency tolerance changes for the device,
its .set_latency_tolerance() callback will be executed and the
effective value will be passed to it. If that value is negative,
which means that the list of latency tolerance requirements for
the device is empty, the callback is expected to switch the
underlying hardware latency tolerance control mechanism to an
autonomous mode if available. If that value is PM_QOS_LATENCY_ANY,
in turn, and the hardware supports a special "no requirement"
setting, the callback is expected to use it. That allows software
to prevent the hardware from automatically updating the device's
latency tolerance in response to its power state changes (e.g. during
transitions from D3cold to D0), which generally may be done in the
autonomous latency tolerance control mode.
If .set_latency_tolerance() is present for the device, a new
pm_qos_latency_tolerance_us attribute will be present in the
devivce's power directory in sysfs. Then, user space can use
that attribute to specify its latency tolerance requirement for
the device, if any. Writing "any" to it means "no requirement, but
do not let the hardware control latency tolerance" and writing
"auto" to it allows the hardware to be switched to the autonomous
mode if there are no other requirements from the kernel side in the
device's list.
This changeset includes a fix from Mika Westerberg.

The 'active' sysfs attribute should refer to the currently active tty
devices the console is running on, not the currently active console.
The console structure doesn't refer to any device in sysfs, only the tty
the console is running on has. So we need to print out the tty names in
'active', not the console names.
This resolves an issue on s390 platforms in determining the correct
console device to use.

Add and document a generic sysfs based scancode filtering interface for
making use of IR data matching hardware to filter out uninteresting
scancodes. Two filters exist, one for normal operation and one for
filtering scancodes which are permitted to wake the system from suspend.
The following files are added to /sys/class/rc/rc?/:
- filter: normal scancode filter value
- filter_mask: normal scancode filter mask
- wakeup_filter: wakeup scancode filter value
- wakeup_filter_mask: wakeup scancode filter mask
A new s_filter() driver callback is added which must arrange for the
specified filter to be applied at the right time. Drivers can convert
the scancode filter into a raw IR data filter, which can be applied
immediately or later (for wake up filters).

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"As far as the number of commits goes, the top spot belongs to ACPI
this time with cpufreq in the second position and a handful of PM
core, PNP and cpuidle updates. They are fixes and cleanups mostly, as
usual, with a couple of new features in the mix.
The most visible change is probably that we will create struct
acpi_device objects (visible in sysfs) for all devices represented in
the ACPI tables regardless of their status and there will be a new
sysfs attribute under those objects allowing user space to check that
status via _STA.
Consequently, ACPI device eject or generally hot-removal will not
delete those objects, unless the table containing the corresponding
namespace nodes is unloaded, which is extremely rare. Also ACPI
container hotplug will be handled quite a bit differently and cpufreq
will support CPU boost ("turbo") generically and not only in the
acpi-cpufreq driver.
Specifics:
- ACPI core changes to make it create a struct acpi_device object for
every device represented in the ACPI tables during all namespace
scans regardless of the current status of that device. In
accordance with this, ACPI hotplug operations will not delete those
objects, unless the underlying ACPI tables go away.

Here's the big drivers/staging/ update for 3.14-rc1
Lots and lots of cleanups, IIO driver updates are also mixed in here due
to the subsystem still crossing staging and drivers/iio/, and the dwc2
driver is moved out of staging. There's a new driver (rts5208), which
ends up making us adding more lines than removing, but overall there was
lots of work toward moving code out of here, which was good.
All of this has been in linux-next with no reported issues.

Often, usb drivers need some driver_info to get a device to work. To
have access to driver_info when using new_id, allow to pass a reference
vendor:product tuple from which new_id will inherit driver_info.

This attribute can be used to set and read the value and the
mask of the skb mark which will be used to classify the
source non-mesh client as ISOLATED. In this way a client can
be advertised as such and the mark can potentially be
restored at the receiving node before delivering the skb.
This can be helpful for creating network wide netfilter
policies.
This sysfs file expects a string of the shape "$mark/$mask".
Where $mark has to be a 32-bit number in any base, while
$mask must be a 32bit mask expressed in hex base. Only bits
in $mark covered by the bitmask are really stored.

Currently each rbd device is allocated its own major number, which
leads to a hard limit of 230-250 images mapped at once. This commit
adds support for a new single-major device number allocation scheme,
which is hidden behind a new single_major boolean module parameter and
is disabled by default for backwards compatibility reasons. (Old
userspace cannot correctly unmap images mapped under single-major
scheme and would essentially just unmap a random image, if that.)
$ rbd showmapped
id pool image snap device
0 rbd b100 - /dev/rbd0
1 rbd b101 - /dev/rbd1
2 rbd b102 - /dev/rbd2
3 rbd b103 - /dev/rbd3
Old scheme (modprobe rbd):
$ ls -l /dev/rbd*
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 0 Dec 10 12:24 /dev/rbd0
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 0 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 1 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 2 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 3 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p3
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 251, 0 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 251, 1 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd2p1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 250, 0 Dec 10 12:24 /dev/rbd3
New scheme (modprobe rbd single_major=Y):
$ ls -l /dev/rbd*
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 0 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd0
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 256 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 257 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 258 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 259 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p3
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 512 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 513 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd2p1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 768 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd3
(major 253 was assigned dynamically at module load time)
The new limit is 4096 images mapped at once, and it comes from the fact
that, as before, 256 minor numbers are reserved for each mapping.
(A follow-up commit changes the number of minors reserved and the way
we deal with partitions over that number.)
If single_major is set to true, two new sysfs interfaces show up:
/sys/bus/rbd/{add,remove}_single_major. These are to be used instead
of /sys/bus/rbd/{add,remove}, which are disabled for backwards
compatibility reasons outlined above.
