ACPI: Adding DMA Attribute APIs for ACPI Device
Adding acpi_get_dma_attr() to query DMA attributes of ACPI devices. It returns the enum dev_dma_attr, which communicates DMA information more clearly. This API replaces the acpi_check_dma(), which will be removed in subsequent patch. This patch also provides a convenient function, acpi_dma_supported(), to check DMA support of the specified ACPI device. Power management and ACPI updates for v4.4-rc1
- ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150930 (Bob Moore, Lv Zheng). The most significant change is to allow the AML debugger to be built into the kernel. On top of that there is an update related to the NFIT table (the ACPI persistent memory interface) and a few fixes and cleanups. - ACPI CPPC2 (Collaborative Processor Performance Control v2) support along with a cpufreq frontend (Ashwin Chaugule). This can only be enabled on ARM64 at this point. - New ACPI infrastructure for the early probing of IRQ chips and clock sources (Marc Zyngier). - Support for a new hierarchical properties extension of the ACPI _DSD (Device Specific Data) device configuration object allowing the kernel to handle hierarchical properties (provided by the platform firmware this way) automatically and make them available to device drivers via the generic device properties interface (Rafael Wysocki). - Generic device properties API extension to obtain an index of certain string value in an array of strings, along the lines of of_property_match_string(), but working for all of the supported firmware node types, and support for the "dma-names" device property based on it (Mika Westerberg). - ACPI core fix to parse the MADT (Multiple APIC Description Table) entries in the order expected by platform firmware (and mandated by the specification) to avoid confusion on systems with more than 255 logical CPUs (Lukasz Anaczkowski). - Consolidation of the ACPI-based handling of PCI host bridges on x86 and ia64 (Jiang Liu). - ACPI core fixes to ensure that the correct IRQ number is used to represent the SCI (System Control Interrupt) in the cases when it has been re-mapped (Chen Yu). - New ACPI backlight quirk for Lenovo IdeaPad S405 (Hans de Goede). - ACPI EC driver fixes (Lv Zheng). - Assorted ACPI fixes and cleanups (Dan Carpenter, Insu Yun, Jiri Kosina, Rami Rosen, Rasmus Villemoes). - New mechanism in the PM core allowing drivers to check if the platform firmware is going to be involved in the upcoming system suspend or if it has been involved in the suspend the system is resuming from at the moment (Rafael Wysocki). This should allow drivers to optimize their suspend/resume handling in some cases and the changes include a couple of users of it (the i8042 input driver, PCI PM). - PCI PM fix to prevent runtime-suspended devices with PME enabled from being resumed during system suspend even if they aren't configured to wake up the system from sleep (Rafael Wysocki). - New mechanism to report the number of a wakeup IRQ that woke up the system from sleep last time (Alexandra Yates). - Removal of unused interfaces from the generic power domains framework and fixes related to latency measurements in that code (Ulf Hansson, Daniel Lezcano). - cpufreq core sysfs interface rework to make it handle CPUs that share performance scaling settings (represented by a common cpufreq policy object) more symmetrically (Viresh Kumar). This should help to simplify the CPU offline/online handling among other things. - cpufreq core fixes and cleanups (Viresh Kumar). - intel_pstate fixes related to the Turbo Activation Ratio (TAR) mechanism on client platforms which causes the turbo P-states range to vary depending on platform firmware settings (Srinivas Pandruvada). - intel_pstate sysfs interface fix (Prarit Bhargava). - Assorted cpufreq driver (imx, tegra20, powernv, integrator) fixes and cleanups (Bai Ping, Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz, Shilpasri G Bhat, Luis de Bethencourt). - cpuidle mvebu driver cleanups (Russell King). - OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework code reorganization to make it more maintainable (Viresh Kumar). - Intel Broxton support for the RAPL (Running Average Power Limits) power capping driver (Amy Wiles). - Assorted power management code fixes and cleanups (Dan Carpenter, Geert Uytterhoeven, Geliang Tang, Luis de Bethencourt, Rasmus Villemoes). / -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABCAAGBQJWOC9oAAoJEILEb/54YlRx/c8P/joflwoFsISwJccG62YTQMuc bMQKM4Kw0vl5La8+pkLpe5t6+mW7l81UFtYF6Dzd8LOKlD9sszD34z1lHmCeT/oR wn0uZpHagRyLMUfoyiEtlU/VRU6WQNNtS3EgjwUi7xgFz9Q0pjcCZ9OQ6vKov1j5 +6j40ODif5sgo+2vl+rztJiV0SIMkYdkgNqgfN1FE9bdLA2Zkk+PxxJbtGQORuDu O/K+XhQT2xWquVWi/1p+VtQxs5glBS1oKm0kogV5bElCvNTRNIVABUNcjogITQwo QSAKgoCKIoaIl5jtDT6u5dc0y67q/dMtqOY9fOCcOz1Z7jbWQzR8D7mpFWIsJUPK K2LClI3t85ynpN6Jref246A6+C9nwB8JMAiAR11oBw7WbBlkd6tbRgcT5B+iz8UE FuCCif7pha/Fs+Jt1YRazscIqteQ2bAhhxikuIPMfw2M6M67MNfVNeKA1bAoSM34 dH7JsilblitvV7shrwJHwXPXCOF2jEPoK8I4/q2+TR5qUxEpRJjelQxXGSaQScMZ iNnjeTgv8H8q+rY5Yjzsl4pxP0Fvf7IuqkptWOJbgepg4cQc9pS87wOpY3uEeQzr H7ruaQJFCnLO4aXbPNClsiJARhrBk+qMlsh4vBEyCJ2T0ucb+nIUcN4BTi8t85yl X97BfHHUiDoUrnIsNids =1gaH -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pm+acpi-4.4-rc1-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki: "Quite a new features are included this time. First off, the Collaborative Processor Performance Control interface (version 2) defined by ACPI will now be supported on ARM64 along with a cpufreq frontend for CPU performance scaling. Second, ACPI gets a new infrastructure for the early probing of IRQ chips and clock sources (along the lines of the existing similar mechanism for DT). Next, the ACPI core and the generic device properties API will now support a recently introduced hierarchical properties extension of the _DSD (Device Specific Data) ACPI device configuration object. If the ACPI platform firmware uses that extension to organize device properties in a hierarchical way, the kernel will automatically handle it and make those properties available to device drivers via the generic device properties API. It also will be possible to build the ACPICA's AML interpreter debugger into the kernel now and use that to diagnose AML-related problems more efficiently. In the future, this should make it possible to single-step AML execution and do similar things. Interesting stuff, although somewhat experimental at this point. Finally, the PM core gets a new mechanism that can be used by device drivers to distinguish between suspend-to-RAM (based on platform firmware support) and suspend-to-idle (or other variants of system suspend the platform firmware is not involved in) and possibly optimize their device suspend/resume handling accordingly. In addition to that, some existing features are re-organized quite substantially. First, the ACPI-based handling of PCI host bridges on x86 and ia64 is unified and the common code goes into the ACPI core (so as to reduce code duplication and eliminate non-essential differences between the two architectures in that area). Second, the Operating Performance Points (OPP) framework is reorganized to make the code easier to find and follow. Next, the cpufreq core's sysfs interface is reorganized to get rid of the "primary CPU" concept for configurations in which the same performance scaling settings are shared between multiple CPUs. Finally, some interfaces that aren't necessary any more are dropped from the generic power domains framework. On top of the above we have some minor extensions, cleanups and bug fixes in multiple places, as usual. Specifics: - ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150930 (Bob Moore, Lv Zheng). ACPI: Use correct IRQ when uninstalling ACPI interrupt handler
Currently when the system is trying to uninstall the ACPI interrupt handler, it uses acpi_gbl_FADT.sci_interrupt as the IRQ number. However, the IRQ number that the ACPI interrupt handled is installed for comes from acpi_gsi_to_irq() and that is the number that should be used for the handler removal. Fix this problem by using the mapped IRQ returned from acpi_gsi_to_irq() as appropriate. ACPI: Add early device probing infrastructure
IRQ controllers and timers are the two types of device the kernel requires before being able to use the device driver model. ACPI so far lacks a proper probing infrastructure similar to the one we have with DT, where we're able to declare IRQ chips and clocksources inside the driver code, and let the core code pick it up and call us back on a match. This leads to all kind of really ugly hacks all over the arm64 code and even in the ACPI layer. In order to allow some basic probing based on the ACPI tables, introduce "struct acpi_probe_entry" which contains just enough data and callbacks to match a table, an optional subtable, and call a probe function. A driver can, at build time, register itself and expect being called if the right entry exists in the ACPI table. A acpi_probe_device_table() is provided, taking an identifier for a set of acpi_prove_entries, and iterating over the registered entries. ACPI, PCI, irq: Do not share PCI IRQ with ISA IRQ
Avoid IRQs occupied by ISA IRQs when allocating IRQs for PCI link devices, otherwise it may cause interrupt storm due to incompatible pin attributes. This issue was triggered on a KVM virtual machine, which 1) uses IRQ9 for SCI in high level mode. 2) defines an PCI interrupt link device (LNKS) with IRQ9 as the only possible irq. 3) has an PCI device referring to link device LNKS. So it causes interrupt storm when enabling the PCI device because PCI IRQ works in low level mode. ACPI / property: Extend device_get_next_child_node() to data-only nodes
Make device_get_next_child_node() work with ACPI data-only subnodes introduced previously. Namely, replace acpi_get_next_child() with acpi_get_next_subnode() that can handle (and return) child device objects as well as child data-only subnodes of the given device and modify the ACPI part of the GPIO subsystem to handle data-only subnodes returned by it. To that end, introduce acpi_node_get_gpiod() taking a struct fwnode_handle pointer as the first argument. That argument may point to an ACPI device object as well as to a data-only subnode and the function should do the right thing (ie. look for the matching GPIO descriptor correctly) in either case. Next, modify fwnode_get_named_gpiod() to use acpi_node_get_gpiod() instead of acpi_get_gpiod_by_index() which automatically causes devm_get_gpiod_from_child() to work with ACPI data-only subnodes that may be returned by device_get_next_child_node() which in turn is required by the users of that function (the gpio_keys_polled and gpio-leds drivers). ACPI / property: Extend fwnode_property_* to data-only subnodes
Modify is_acpi_node() to return "true" for ACPI data-only subnodes as well as for ACPI device objects and change the name of to_acpi_node() to to_acpi_device_node() so it is clear that it covers ACPI device objects only. Accordingly, introduce to_acpi_data_node() to cover data-only subnodes in an analogous way. With that, make the fwnode_property_* family of functions work with ACPI data-only subnodes introduced previously. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. ACPI / scan: Add support for ACPI _CLS device matching
Device drivers typically use ACPI _HIDs/_CIDs listed in struct device_driver acpi_match_table to match devices. However, for generic drivers, we do not want to list _HID for all supported devices. Also, certain classes of devices do not have _CID (e.g. SATA, USB). Instead, we can leverage ACPI _CLS, which specifies PCI-defined class code (i.e. base-class, subclass and programming interface). This patch adds support for matching ACPI devices using the _CLS method. To support loadable module, current design uses _HID or _CID to match device's modalias. With the new way of matching with _CLS this would requires modification to the current ACPI modalias key to include _CLS. This patch appends PCI-defined class-code to the existing ACPI modalias as following. acpi:<HID>:<CID1>:<CID2>:..:<CIDn>:<bbsspp>: E.g: # cat /sys/devices/platform/AMDI0600:00/modalias acpi:AMDI0600:010601: where bb is th base-class code, ss is te sub-class code, and pp is the programming interface code Since there would not be _HID/_CID in the ACPI matching table of the driver, this patch adds a field to acpi_device_id to specify the matching _CLS. static const struct acpi_device_id ahci_acpi_match[] = { { ACPI_DEVICE_CLASS(PCI_CLASS_STORAGE_SATA_AHCI, 0xffffff) }, {}, }; In this case, the corresponded entry in modules.alias file would be: alias acpi*:010601:* ahci_platform Acked-by: Mika Westerberg <mika.westerberg@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Hanjun Guo <hanjun.guo@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Suravee Suthikulpanit <Suravee.Suthikulpanit@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. The libnvdimm sub-system introduces, in addition to the libnvdimm-core,
4 drivers / enabling modules: NFIT: Instantiates an "nvdimm bus" with the core and registers memory devices (NVDIMMs) enumerated by the ACPI 6.0 NFIT (NVDIMM Firmware Interface table). After registering NVDIMMs the NFIT driver then registers "region" devices. A libnvdimm-region defines an access mode and the boundaries of persistent memory media. A region may span multiple NVDIMMs that are interleaved by the hardware memory controller. In turn, a libnvdimm-region can be carved into a "namespace" device and bound to the PMEM or BLK driver which will attach a Linux block device (disk) interface to the memory. PMEM: Initially merged in v4.1 this driver for contiguous spans of persistent memory address ranges is re-worked to drive PMEM-namespaces emitted by the libnvdimm-core. In this update the PMEM driver, on x86, gains the ability to assert that writes to persistent memory have been flushed all the way through the caches and buffers in the platform to persistent media. See memcpy_to_pmem() and wmb_pmem(). BLK: This new driver enables access to persistent memory media through "Block Data Windows" as defined by the NFIT. The primary difference of this driver to PMEM is that only a small window of persistent memory is mapped into system address space at any given point in time. Per-NVDIMM windows are reprogrammed at run time, per-I/O, to access different portions of the media. BLK-mode, by definition, does not support DAX. BTT: This is a library, optionally consumed by either PMEM or BLK, that converts a byte-accessible namespace into a disk with atomic sector update semantics (prevents sector tearing on crash or power loss). The sinister aspect of sector tearing is that most applications do not know they have a atomic sector dependency. At least today's disk's rarely ever tear sectors and if they do one almost certainly gets a CRC error on access. NVDIMMs will always tear and always silently. Until an application is audited to be robust in the presence of sector-tearing the usage of BTT is recommended. acpi: Add acpi_map_pxm_to_online_node()
The kernel initializes CPU & memory's NUMA topology from ACPI SRAT table. Some other ACPI tables, such as NFIT and DMAR, also contain proximity IDs for their device's NUMA topology. This information can be used to improve performance of these devices. This patch introduces acpi_map_pxm_to_online_node(), which is similar to acpi_map_pxm_to_node(), but always returns an online node. When the mapped node from a given proximity ID is offline, it looks up the node distance table and returns the nearest online node. ACPI device drivers, which are called after the NUMA initialization has completed in the kernel, can call this interface to obtain their device NUMA topology from ACPI tables. Such drivers do not have to deal with offline nodes. A node may be offline when a device proximity ID is unique, SRAT memory entry does not exist, or NUMA is disabled, ex. "numa=off" on x86. This patch also moves the pxm range check from acpi_get_node() to acpi_map_pxm_to_node(). Signed-off-by: Toshi Kani <toshi.kani@hp.com> Acked-by: Rafael J. The cpufreq core fixes from Viresh Kumar are quite significant too as far as the number of commits goes and because they should reduce CPU online/offline overhead quite a bit in the majority of cases. From the new featues point of view, the ACPICA update (to upstream revision 20150515) adding support for new ACPI 6 material to ACPICA is the one that matters the most as some new significant features will be based on it going forward. Also included is an update of the ACPI device power management core to follow ACPI 6 (which in turn reflects the Windows' device PM implementation), a PM core extension to support wakeup interrupts in a more generic way and support for the ACPI _CCA device configuration object. The rest is mostly fixes and cleanups all over and some documentation updates, including new DT bindings for Operating Performance Points. There is one fix for a regression introduced in the 4.1 cycle, but it adds quite a number of lines of code, it wasn't really ready before Thursday and you were on vacation, so I refrained from pushing it on the last minute for 4.1. acpi-video-detect: video: Make video_detect code part of the video module
This is a preparation patch for the backlight interface selection logic cleanup, there are 2 reasons to not always build the video_detect code into the kernel: 1) In order for the video_detect.c to also deal with / select native backlight interfaces on win8 systems, instead of doing this in video.c where it does not belong, video_detect.c needs to call into the backlight class code. Which cannot be done if it is builtin and the blacklight class is not. 2) Currently all the platform/x86 drivers which have quirks to prefer the vendor driver over acpi-video call acpi_video_unregister_backlight() to remove the acpi-video backlight interface, this logic really belongs in video_detect.c, which will cause video_detect.c to depend on symbols of video.c and video.c already depends on video_detect.c symbols, so they really need to be a single module. Note that this commits make 2 changes so as to maintain 100% kernel commandline compatibility: 1) The __setup call for the acpi_backlight= handling is moved to acpi/util.c as __setup may only be used by code which is alwasy builtin 2) video.c is renamed to acpi_video.c so that it can be combined with video_detect.c into video.ko This commit also makes changes to drivers/platform/x86/Kconfig to ensure that drivers which use acpi_video_backlight_support() from video_detect.c, will not be built-in when acpi_video is not built in. This also changes some "select" uses to "depends on" to avoid dependency loops. acpi-video-detect: Move acpi_osi_is_win8 to osl.c
acpi_osi_is_win8 needs access to acpi_gbl_osi_data which is not exported, so move it to osl.c. Alternatively we could export acpi_gbl_osi_data but that seems undesirable. This allows video_detect.c to be build as a module, besides that acpi_osi_is_win8() is something which does not really belong in video_detect.c in the first place. ACPI / scan: Parse _CCA and setup device coherency
This patch implements support for ACPI _CCA object, which is introduced in ACPIv5.1, can be used for specifying device DMA coherency attribute. The parsing logic traverses device namespace to parse coherency information, and stores it in acpi_device_flags. Then uses it to call arch_setup_dma_ops() when creating each device enumerated in DSDT during ACPI scan. This patch also introduces acpi_dma_is_coherent(), which provides an interface for device drivers to check the coherency information similarly to the of_dma_is_coherent(). ACPI / processor: Introduce invalid_logical_cpuid()
In ACPI processor drivers, we use direct comparisons of cpu logical id with -1 which are error prone in case logical cpuid is accidentally assinged an error code and prevents us from returning an error-encoding cpuid directly in some cases. So introduce invalid_logical_cpuid() to identify cpu with invalid logical cpu num, then it will be used to replace the direct comparisons with -1. gpio / ACPI: Add support for retrieving GpioInt resources from a device
ACPI specification knows two types of GPIOs: GpioIo and GpioInt. The latter is used to describe that a given device interrupt line is connected to a specific GPIO pin. Typical ACPI _CRS entry for such device looks like below: Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () { I2cSerialBus (0x004A, ControllerInitiated, 0x00061A80, AddressingMode7Bit, "\\_SB.PCI0.I2C6", 0x00, ResourceConsumer) GpioIo (Exclusive, PullDefault, 0x0000, 0x0000, IoRestrictionOutputOnly, "\\_SB.GPO0", 0x00, ResourceConsumer) { 0x004B } GpioInt (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, PullDefault, 0x0000, "\\_SB.GPO0", 0x00, ResourceConsumer) { 0x004C } }) Currently drivers need to request a GPIO corresponding to the right GpioInt and then translate that to Linux IRQ number. This adds unnecessary lines of boiler-plate code. We can ease this a bit by introducing acpi_dev_gpio_irq_get() analogous to of_irq_get(). This function translates given GpioInt resource under the device in question to the suitable Linux IRQ number. Signed-off-by: Mika Westerberg <mika.westerberg@linux.intel.com> Acked-by: Rafael J. This has been made possible by both changes to the ACPI spec to cater for ARM-based machines (known as "hardware-reduced" in ACPI parlance) but also a Linaro-driven effort to get this supported on top of the Linux kernel. This pull request is the result of that work. These changes allow us to initialise the CPUs, interrupt controller, and timers via ACPI tables, with memory information and cmdline coming from EFI. We don't support a hybrid ACPI/FDT scheme. Of course, there is still plenty of work to do (a serial console would be nice!) but I expect that to happen on a per-driver basis after this core series has been merged. Anyway, the diff stat here is fairly horrible, but splitting this up and merging it via all the different subsystems would have been extremely painful. Instead, we've got all the relevant Acks in place and I've not seen anything other than trivial (Kconfig) conflicts in -next (for completeness, I've included my resolution below). Nearly half of the insertions fall under Documentation/. So, we'll see how this goes. device property: Make it possible to use secondary firmware nodes
Add a secondary pointer to struct fwnode_handle so as to make it possible for a device to have two firmware nodes associated with it at the same time, for example, an ACPI node and a node with a set of properties provided by platform initialization code. In the future that will allow device property lookup to fall back from the primary firmware node to the secondary one if the given property is not present there to make it easier to provide defaults for device properties used by device drivers. Introduce two helper routines, set_primary_fwnode() and set_secondary_fwnode() allowing callers to add a primary/secondary firmware node to the given device in such a way that (1) If there's only one firmware node for that device, it will be pointed to by the device's firmware node pointer. (2) If both the primary and secondary firmware nodes are present, the primary one will be pointed to by the device's firmware node pointer, while the secondary one will be pointed to by the primary node's secondary pointer. (3) If one of these nodes is removed (by calling one of the new nelpers with NULL as the second argument), the other one will be preserved. Make ACPI use set_primary_fwnode() for attaching its firmware nodes to devices. Signed-off-by: Rafael J.
