Until Icelake, each engine had its own set of 64 MOCS registers. In
order to simplify, Tigerlake moves to only 64 Global MOCS registers,
which are no longer part of the engine context. Since these registers
are now global, they also only need to be initialized once.
>From Gen12 onwards, MOCS must specify the target cache (3:2) and LRU
management (5:4) fields and cannot be programmed to 'use the value from
Private PAT', because these fields are no longer part of the PPAT. Also
cacheability control (1:0) field has changed, 00 no longer means 'use
controls from page table', but uncacheable (UC).
v2 (Lucas):
- Move the changes to the fault registers to a separate commit - the
old ones overlap with the range used by the new global MOCS
(requested by Daniele)
v3 (Lucas):
- Clarify comment about setting the unused entries to the same value
of index 0, that is the invalid entry (requested by Daniele)

The MOCS table is published as part of bspec, and versioned. Entries
are supposed to never be modified, but new ones can be added. Adding
entries increases table version. The patch includes version 1 entries.

Although we are changing the gen11 table, those changes are supposed to
be backward compatible since we are only touching previously undefined
entries.

Currently we use the engine->active.lock to ensure that the request is
not retired as we capture the data. However, we only need to ensure that
the vma are not removed prior to use acquiring their contents, and
since we have already relinquished our stop-machine protection, we
assume that the user will not be overwriting the contents before we are
able to record them.
In order to capture the vma outside of the spinlock, we acquire a
reference and mark the vma as active to prevent it from being unbound.
However, since it is tricky allocate an entry in the fence tree (doing
so would require taking a mutex) while inside the engine spinlock, we
use an atomic bit and special case the handling for i915_active_wait.
The core benefit is that we can use some non-atomic methods for mapping
the device pages, we can remove the slow compression phase out of atomic
context (i.e. stop antagonising the nmi-watchdog), and no we longer need
large reserves of atomic pages.

The way we load the firmwares is the same for both GuC and HuC, the only
difference is in the wopcm destination address and the dma flags, so we
easily can move the logic to a common function and pass in offset and
flags. The only other difference in the uplaod path are some the extra
steps that guc does before and after the xfer, but those don't require
the guc fw to be pinned in ggtt and can safely be performed before
calling the uc_upload function.
Note that this patch re-introduces the dma xfer wait for guc loading that
was removed with "drm/i915/guc: Propagate the fw xfer timeout". This is
not going to slow us down on a successful load (the dma has to complete
before fw init can start), but could slightly increase the timeout in case
of a fw init error.

The gt is our new central structure for uc-related code, so we can use
that instead of jumping back to i915 via the fw object. Since we have it
in the upload function it is easy to pass it through the lower levels of

will also make things a bit cleaner for the next patch.

There are 2 issues around handling of missing uC support:
- We treat lack of uC HW and lack of uC FW definition as 2 different
cases, but both of them mean that we don't support the uC on the
platform we're running on.
- We rely on the modparam to decide if we can take uC paths or not, but
we don't sanitize it if it is set incorrectly on platform with no uC
support.
To fix both of them, unify the 2 cases in a single one and sanitize the
modparam on invalid configuration (after printing an error message).
The log has been adapted as well, since the user doesn't care why we
don't support GuC/HuC (no HW or no FW), just that we do not. Developers
can easily find the answer based on the platform, so we can simplify the
log.
Correcting the modparam has been preferred over failing the load since
this is what we usually do for non-supported feature (e.g. the now gone
enable_ppgtt would fall back to the highest supported PPGTT mode if the
selected one was not available).
Note that this patch purposely doesn't change the behavior for platforms
that do have uC support, in which case we will still fail if enable_guc
is set and the firmware is not available on the system.

Trust that we now have adequate protection over the low level structures
via the engine->active.lock to allow ourselves to capture the GPU error
state without the heavy hammer of stop_machine(). Sadly this does mean
that we have to forgo some of the lesser used information (not derived
from the active state) that is not controlled by the active locks. This
includes the list of buffers in the ppGTT and pinned globally in the
GGTT. Originally this was used to manually verify relocations, but
hasn't been required for sometime and modern mesa now has the habit of
ensuring that all interesting buffers within a batch are captured in their
entirety (that are the auxiliary state buffers, but not the textures).
A useful side-effect is that this allows us to restore error capturing
for Braswell and Broxton.

A couple issues were present in this code:
1.
fls() usage was incorrect causing off by one in subslice mask lookup,
which in other words means subslice mask of all zeroes is always used
(subslice mask of a slice which is not present, or even out of bounds
array access), rendering the checks in wa_init_mcr either futile or
random.
2.
Condition in WARN_ON was not correct. It is doing a bitwise and operation
between a positive (present subslices) and negative mask (disabled L3
banks).
This means that with corrected fls() usage the assert would always
incorrectly fail.
We could fix this by inverting the fuse bits in the check, but instead do
one better and improve the code so it not only asserts, but finds the
first common index between the two masks and only warns if no such index
can be found.
v2:
* Simplify check for logic and redability.
* Improve commentary explaining what is really happening ie. what the
assert is really trying to check and why.
v3:
* Find first common index instead of just asserting.

As we unwind the requests for a preemption event, we return a virtual
request back to its original virtual engine (so that it is available for
execution on any of its siblings). In the process, this means that its
breadcrumb should no longer be associated with the original physical
engine, and so we are forced to decouple it. Previously, as the request
could not complete without our awareness, we would move it to the next
real engine without any danger. However, preempt-to-busy allowed for
requests to continue on the HW and complete in the background as we
unwound, which meant that we could end up retiring the request before
fixing up the breadcrumb link.

It turns out that while disabling i2c bus access from software when the
GPU is suspended was a step in the right direction with:
commit 342406e4fb ("drm/nouveau/i2c: Disable i2c bus access after
->fini()")
We also ended up accidentally breaking the vbios init scripts on some
older Tesla GPUs, as apparently said scripts can actually use the i2c
bus. Since these scripts are executed before initializing any
subdevices, we end up failing to acquire access to the i2c bus which has
left a number of cards with their fan controllers uninitialized. Luckily
this doesn't break hardware - it just means the fan gets stuck at 100%.
This also means that we've always been using our i2c busses before
initializing them during the init scripts for older GPUs, we just didn't
notice it until we started preventing them from being used until init.
It's pretty impressive this never caused us any issues before!
So, fix this by initializing our i2c pad and busses during subdev
pre-init. We skip initializing aux busses during pre-init, as those are
guaranteed to only ever be used by nouveau for DP aux transactions.

In the sysctl code the proc_dointvec_minmax() function is often used to
validate the user supplied value between an allowed range. This
function uses the extra1 and extra2 members from struct ctl_table as
minimum and maximum allowed value.
On sysctl handler declaration, in every source file there are some
readonly variables containing just an integer which address is assigned
to the extra1 and extra2 members, so the sysctl range is enforced.
The special values 0, 1 and INT_MAX are very often used as range
boundary, leading duplication of variables like zero=0, one=1,
int_max=INT_MAX in different source files:
$ git grep -E '\.extra[12].*&(zero|one|int_max)' |wc -l

Add a const int array containing the most commonly used values, some

[WHY] dc sw clock implementation of navi10 and raven are not exact the
same. dcccg, dchub reference clock initialization is done after dc calls
vbios dispcontroller_init table. for raven family, before
dispcontroller_init is called by dc, the ref clk values are referred
by sw clock implementation and program asic register using wrong
values. this causes dchub pstate error. This need provide valid ref
clk values. for navi10, since dispcontroller_init is not called,
dchubbub_global_timer_enable = 0, hubbub2_get_dchub_ref_freq will
hit aeert. this need remove hubbub2_get_dchub_ref_freq from this
location and move to dcn20_init_hw.
[HOW] for all asic, initialize dccg, dchub ref clk with data from
vbios firmware table by default. for raven asic family, use these data
from vbios, for asic which support sw dccg component, like navi10,
read ref clk by sw dccg functions and update the ref clk.

On VLV/CHV there is some kind of linkage between the cdclk frequency
and the DP link frequency. The spec says:
"For DP audio configuration, cdclk frequency shall be set to
meet the following requirements:
DP Link Frequency(MHz) | Cdclk frequency(MHz)
270 | 320 or higher
162 | 200 or higher"
I suspect that would more accurately be expressed as
"cdclk >= DP link clock", and in any case we can express it like
that in the code because of the limited set of cdclk (200, 266,
320, 400 MHz) and link frequencies (162 and 270 MHz) we support.
Without this we can end up in a situation where the cdclk
is too low and enabling DP audio will kill the pipe. Happens
eg. with 2560x1440 modes where the 266MHz cdclk is sufficient
to pump the pixels (241.5 MHz dotclock) but is too low for
the DP audio due to the link frequency being 270 MHz.

If we shut down a process without having destroyed its GWS-using
queues, it is possible that GWS BO will still be in the process
BO list during the gpuvm destruction. This list should be empty
at that time, so we should remove the GWS allocation at the
process uninit point if it is still around.

Under memory pressure, buffer moves between RAM to VRAM can
fail when there is no GTT space available. In those cases
amdgpu_bo_move falls back to ttm_bo_move_memcpy, which seems to
succeed, although it doesn't really support non-contiguous or
invisible VRAM. This manifests as VM faults with corrupted page
table entries in KFD eviction stress tests.
Print some helpful messages when lack of GTT space is causing buffer
moves to fail. Check that source and destination memory regions are
supported by ttm_bo_move_memcpy before taking that fallback.

The simple_strtol() function is deprecated. kstrto[l,u32]() is
the correct replacement as it can properly handle overflows.
This patch replaces the deprecated simple_strtol() use introduced recently.
As clk is of type uint32_t, we are safe to use kstrtou32().
It is also safe to return zero on string parsing error,
similar to the case of returning zero if buf is empty in parse_clk().

Right now we are aware of two cases that needs another hotplug retry:
- Unpowered type-c dongles
- HDMI slow unplug
Both have a complete explanation in the code to schedule another run
of the hotplug handler.
It could have more checks to just trigger the retry in those two
specific cases but why would sink signal a long pulse if there is
no change? Also the drawback of running the hotplug handler again
is really low and that could fix another cases that we are not

Rename the iio documentation files to ReST, add an
index for them and adjust in order to produce a nice html
output via the Sphinx build system.
The cdrom.txt and hdio.txt have their own particular syntax.
In order to speedup the conversion, I used a small ancillary
perl script:
my $d;
$d .= $_ while(<>);
$d =~ s/(\nCDROM\S+)\s+(\w[^\n]*)/$1\n\t$2\n/g;
$d =~ s/(\nHDIO\S+)\s+(\w[^\n]*)/$1\n\t$2\n/g;
$d =~ s/(\n\s*usage:)[\s\n]*(\w[^\n]*)/$1:\n\n\t $2\n/g;
$d =~ s/(\n\s*)(E\w+[\s\n]*\w[^\n]*)/$1- $2/g;
$d =~ s/(\n\s*)(inputs|outputs|notes):\s*(\w[^\n]*)/$1$2:\n\t\t$3\n/g;
print $d;
It basically add blank lines on a few interesting places. The
script is not perfect: still several things require manual work,
but it saved quite some time doing some obvious stuff.

Convert the locking documents to ReST and add them to the
kernel development book where it belongs.
Most of the stuff here is just to make Sphinx to properly
parse the text file, as they're already in good shape,
not requiring massive changes in order to be parsed.
The conversion is actually:
- add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs;
- fix tables markups;
- add some lists markups;
- mark literal blocks;
- adjust title markups.

GVT forces single port submission of individual requests. We do not
enjoy the context amalgamation that the test depends upon for setting up
the test (where port 0 has a large number of requests with a priority
change somewhere in the middle). Under single request submission of gvt
it is quite able for the preemption event to occur while another context
is active and so there be a real need to act upon that preemption.

Improvements and bug fixes for the hmm interface in the kernel:
- Improve clarity, locking and APIs related to the 'hmm mirror' feature
merged last cycle. In linux-next we now see AMDGPU and nouveau to be
using this API.
- Remove old or transitional hmm APIs. These are hold overs from the past
with no users, or APIs that existed only to manage cross tree conflicts.
There are still a few more of these cleanups that didn't make the merge
window cut off.
- Improve some core mm APIs:
* export alloc_pages_vma() for driver use
* refactor into devm_request_free_mem_region() to manage
DEVICE_PRIVATE resource reservations
* refactor duplicative driver code into the core dev_pagemap
struct
- Remove hmm wrappers of improved core mm APIs, instead have drivers use
the simplified API directly
- Remove DEVICE_PUBLIC
- Simplify the kconfig flow for the hmm users and core code

Being part of the GT HW, it make sense to keep the guc/huc structures
inside the GT structure. To help with the encapsulation work done by the
following patches, both structures are placed inside a new intel_uc
container. Although this results in code with ugly nested dereferences
(i915->gt.uc.guc...), it saves us the extra work required in moving
the structures twice (i915 -> gt -> uc). The following patches will
reduce the number of places where we try to access the guc/huc
structures directly from i915 and reduce the ugliness.

The 16-bit guc irq vector is unchanged across gens, the only thing that
moved is its position (from the upper 16 bits of the PM regs to its own

the 2 different positions, we can work on the vector and shift it as
appropriate. While at it, update the handler to work on intel_guc.

The "misc" terminology doesn't clearly explain what we intend to cover
in this phase. The only thing we used ot do in there apart from FW fetch
was initializing the log workqueue, with the latter being required only in
the very rare case where we enable the log relay. As we no longer create
our own workqueue, piggybacking on the system_highpri_wq instead, we can
rename the function to clarify that they only fetch/release the blobs.

We only employ a single task for log capture, and created a workqueue
for the purpose of ensuring we had a high priority queue for low
latency. We can simply use the system_highpri_wq and avoid the
complication with creating our own admist the maze of mutexes.
(Currently we create the wq early before we even know we need it in
order to avoid trying to create it on demand while we hold the logging
mutex.)

Some platforms may have Modular FIA. If Modular FIA is used in the SOC,
then Display Driver will access the additional instances of
FIA based on pre-assigned offset in GTTMADDR space.
Each Modular FIA instance has its own IOSF Sideband Port ID
and it houses only 2 Type-C Port. In SOC that has more than
two Type-C Ports, there are multiple instances of Modular FIA.
Gunit will need to use different destination ID when it access
different pair of Type-C Port.
The DFLEXDPSP register has Modular FIA bit starting on Tiger Lake. If
Modular FIA is used in the SOC, this register bit exists in all the
instances of Modular FIA. IOM FW is required to program only the MF bit
in first FIA instance that houses the Type-C Port 0 and Port 1, for
Display Driver to read from.
v2 (Lucas):
- Move all accesses to FIA to be contained in intel_tc.c, along with
display_fia that is now called tc_phy_fia
- Save the fia instance number on intel_digital_port, so we don't have
to query if modular FIA is used on every access
v3 (Lucas): Make function static
v4 (Lucas): Move enum phy_fia to the header and use it in
intel_digital_port (suggested by Ville)
v5 (Lucas): Add comment about the mapping between FIA and TC port

changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.
Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
entries in a simple way
- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
- default_attrs use for some ktype users
- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
- compressed firmware file loading
- deferred probe fixes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge
issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge
issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :)

Using "enable_guc" modparam auto mode (-1) will let driver
decide on which platforms and in which configuration we want
to use GuC/HuC firmwares.
Today driver will enable HuC firmware authentication by GuC
only on Gen11+ platforms as HuC firmware is required to unlock
advanced video codecs in media driver.
Legacy platforms with GuC/HuC are not affected by this change
as for them driver still defaults to disabled(0) in auto mode.

The patch adds the new power wells introduced by TGL (GEN 12) and
maps these to existing/new power domains. The changes for GEN 12 wrt
to GEN 11 are the following:
- Transcoder#EDP removed from power well#1 (Transcoder#A used in
low-power mode instead)
- Transcoder#A is now backed by power well#1 instead of power well#3
- The DDI#B/C combo PHY ports are now backed by power well#1 instead of
power well#3
- New power well#5 added for pipe#D functionality (TODO)
- 2 additional TC ports (TC#5-6) backed by power well#3, 2 port
specific IO power wells (only for the non-TBT modes) and 4 port
specific AUX power wells (2-2 for TBT vs. non-TBT modes)
- Power well#2 backs now VDSC/joining for pipe#A instead of VDSC for
eDP and MIPI DSI (TODO)
On TGL Port DDI#C changed to be a combo PHY (native DP/HDMI) and
BSpec has renamed ports DDI#D-F to TC#4-6 respectively. Thus on ICL we
have the following naming for ports:
- Combo PHYs (native DP/HDMI):
DDI#A-B
- TBT/non-TBT (TC altmode, native DP/HDMI) PHYs:
DDI#C-F
Starting from GEN 12 we have the following naming for ports:
- Combo PHYs (native DP/HDMI):
DDI#A-C
- TBT/non-TBT (TC altmode, native DP/HDMI) PHYs:
DDI TC#1-6
To save some space in the power domain enum the power domain naming in
the driver reflects the above change, that is power domains TC#1-3 are
added as aliases for DDI#D-F and new power domains are reserved for
TC#4-6.
v2 (Lucas):
- Separate out the bits and definitions for TGL from the ICL ones.
Fix use of TRANSCODER_EDP_VDSC, that is now the correct define since
we don't define TRANSCODER_A_VDSC power domain to spare a one bit in
the bitmask (suggested by Ville)

Currently the intel_update_plane and intel_disable_plane tracepoints record
the address of plane->name in the ring buffer, and then when reading the
ring buffer uses %s to get the name. The issue with this, is that those two
events can be minutes, hours or even days apart. It is very dangerous to
dereference a string pointer without knowing if it still exists or not.
The proper way to handle this is to use the __string() macro in the
tracepoint which will save the string into the ring buffer at the time of
recording. Then there's no worries if the original string still exists in
memory when the ring buffer is read.

[Why]
The drm_audio_component can be used to give pin ELD notifications
directly to the sound driver. This fixes audio endpoints disappearing
due to missing unsolicited notifications.
[How]
Send the notification via the audio component whenever we enable or
disable audio state on a stream. This matches what i915 does with
their drm_audio_component and what Takashi Iwai's proposed hack for
radeon/amdpgu did.
This is a bit delayed in when the notification actually occurs, however.
We wait until after all the programming is complete rather than sending
the notification mid sequence.
Particular care is needed for the get ELD callback since it can happen
outside the locking and fencing DRM does for atomic commits.

[Why]
In order to give pin notifications to the sound driver from DM we need
to know whether audio is enabled on a stream and what pin it's using
from DC.
[How]
Expose the instance via stream status if it's a mapped resource for
the stream. It will be -1 if there's no audio mapped.

So we should not convert a hbuf_size of 0 into 1.
Also pull the relevant code into a helper to avoid making the

We originally added support, in some cases partial, for different modes
of operations via guc clients:
- proxy vs direct submission;
- variable engine mask per-client.
We only ever used one flow (all submissions via a single proxy), so the
other code paths haven't been exercised and are most likely
non-functional. The guc firmware interface is also in the process of
being updated to better fit the i915 flow and our client abstraction
will need to change accordingly (or possibly go away entirely), so these
old unused paths can be considered dead and removed.

Preemption via GuC submission is not being supported with its current
legacy incarnation. The current FW does support a similar pre-emption
flow via H2G, but it is class-based instead of being instance-based,
which doesn't fit well with the i915 tracking. To fix this, the
firmware is being updated to better support our needs with a new flow,
so we can safely remove the old code.
