devm_gpiod_get() usually calls gpio_request_enable() for non-strict pinmux
drivers. These puts the pins in GPIO mode, whithout notifying the pinctrl
driver. At this point, the I2C bus no longer owns the pins. To mux the
pins back to the I2C bus, we use the pinctrl driver to change the state
of the pins to GPIO, before using devm_gpiod_get(). After the pins are
received as GPIOs, we switch theer pinctrl state back to the default
one,

Running i2cdetect on a PXA I2C adapter is very noisy; it complains
whenever a slave fails to respond to the address cycle. Since it is
normal to probe for slaves in this way, we should not fill the kernel
log. This is especially true with SFP modules that take a while to
respond on the I2C bus, and probing via the I2C bus is the only way to
detect that they are ready.
Fix this by changing the internal transfer return code from I2C_RETRY
to a new NO_SLAVE code (mapped to -ENXIO, as per the I2C documentation
for this condition, but we still return -EREMOTEIO to the I2C stack to

One of the I2C controllers on Tegra SoCs is typically connected to a
system PMIC, which provides controls for critical power supplies for
most platforms.
Some drivers, such as PCI, need to disable these regulators during a
very late stage during suspend and resume them at a very early stage
during resume.
To support these use-cases, keep interrupts disabled during suspend/
resume.

Depending on the board design, the I2C controllers found on Tegra SoCs
may require pinmuxing in order to function. This is done as part of the
driver's runtime suspend/resume operations. However, the PM core does
not allow devices to go into runtime suspend during system sleep to
avoid potential races with the suspend/resume of their parents.
As a result of this, when Tegra SoCs resume from system suspend, their
I2C controllers may have lost the pinmux state in hardware, whereas the
pinctrl subsystem is not aware of this. To fix this, make sure that if
the I2C controller is not runtime suspended, the runtime suspend code is
still executed in order to disable the module clock (which we don't need
to be enabled during sleep) and set the pinmux to the idle state.
Conversely, make sure that the I2C controller is properly resumed when
waking up from sleep so that pinmux settings are properly restored.
This fixes a bug seen with DDC transactions to an HDMI monitor timing
out when resuming from system suspend.

Boot CPU0 always handle I2C interrupt and under some rare circumstances

running on a sibling CPU, despite of IRQ being raised. In order to handle
this rare condition, the IRQ status needs to be checked after completion

The AMD X370 and other AM4 chipsets (A/B/X 3/4/5 parts) and Threadripper
equivalents have a secondary SMBus controller at I/O port address
0x0B20. This bus is used by several manufacturers to control
motherboard RGB lighting via embedded controllers. I have been using
this bus in my OpenRGB project to control the Aura RGB on many
motherboards and ASRock also uses this bus for their Polychrome RGB
controller.
I am not aware of any CZ-compatible platforms which do not have the
second SMBus channel. All of AMD's AM4- and Threadripper- series
chipsets that OpenRGB users have tested appear to have this secondary
bus. I also noticed this secondary bus is present on older AMD
platforms including my FM1 home server.

We already set DPM_FLAG_SMART_PREPARE, so we completely skip all
callbacks (other then prepare) where possible, quoting from
dw_i2c_plat_prepare():
/*
* If the ACPI companion device object is present for this device, it
* may be accessed during suspend and resume of other devices via I2C
* operation regions, so tell the PM core and middle layers to avoid
* skipping system suspend/resume callbacks for it in that case.
*/
return !has_acpi_companion(dev);
Also setting the DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND will cause acpi_subsys_suspend()
to leave the controller runtime-suspended even if dw_i2c_plat_prepare()
returned 0.
Leaving the controller runtime-suspended normally, when the I2C controller
is suspended during the suspend_late phase, is not an issue because
the pm_runtime_get_sync() done by i2c_dw_xfer() will (runtime-)resume it.
But for dw I2C controllers on Bay- and Cherry-Trail devices acpi_lpss.c
leaves the controller alive until the suspend_noirq phase, because it may
be used by the _PS3 ACPI methods of PCI devices and PCI devices are left
powered on until the suspend_noirq phase.
Between the suspend_late and resume_early phases runtime-pm is disabled.
So for any ACPI I2C OPRegion accesses done after the suspend_late phase,
the pm_runtime_get_sync() done by i2c_dw_xfer() is a no-op and the
controller is left runtime-suspended.
i2c_dw_xfer() has a check to catch this condition (rather then waiting
for the I2C transfer to timeout because the controller is suspended).
acpi_subsys_suspend() leaving the controller runtime-suspended in
combination with an ACPI I2C OPRegion access done after the suspend_late
phase triggers this check, leading to the following error being logged
on a Bay Trail based Lenovo Thinkpad 8 tablet:
[ 93.275882] i2c_designware 80860F41:00: Transfer while suspended

So since on BYT and CHT platforms we want ACPI I2c OPRegion accesses
to work until the suspend_noirq phase, we need the controller to be
runtime-resumed during the suspend phase if it is runtime-suspended
suspended at that time. This means that we must not set the
DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND on these platforms.
On BYT and CHT we already have a special ACCESS_NO_IRQ_SUSPEND flag
to make sure the controller stays functional until the suspend_noirq
phase. This commit makes the driver not set the DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND
flag when that flag is set.

The problem with detecting the FIFO depth in the platform driver
is that in order to implement this we have to access the controller
IC_COMP_PARAM_1 register. Currently it's done before the
i2c_dw_set_reg_access() method execution, which is errors prone since
the method determines the registers endianness and access mode and we
can't use dw_readl/dw_writel accessors before this information is
retrieved. We also can't move the i2c_dw_set_reg_access() function
invocation to after the master/slave probe functions call (when endianness
and access mode are determined), since the FIFO depth information is used
by them for initializations. So in order to fix the problem we have no
choice but to move the FIFO size detection methods to the common code and
call it at the probe stage.

The HDMI blocks in the BCM2771 have an i2c controller to retrieve the
EDID. This block is split into two parts, the BSC and the AUTO_I2C,
lying in two separate register areas.
The AUTO_I2C block has a mailbox-like interface and will take away the
BSC control from the CPU if enabled. However, the BSC is the actually
the same controller than the one supported by the brcmstb driver, and
the AUTO_I2C doesn't really bring any immediate benefit.
Let's use the BSC then, but let's also tie the AUTO_I2C registers with a
separate compatible so that we can enable AUTO_I2C if needed in the
future.
The AUTO_I2C is enabled by default at boot though, so we first need to
release the BSC from the AUTO_I2C control.

Martin noticed that nct6775 driver does not load properly on his system
in v5.4+ kernels. The issue was bisected to commit b84398d6d7 ("i2c:
i801: Use iTCO version 6 in Cannon Lake PCH and beyond") but it is
likely not the culprit because the faulty code has been in the driver
already since commit 9424693035 ("i2c: i801: Create iTCO device on
newer Intel PCHs"). So more likely some commit that added PCI IDs of
recent chipsets made the driver to create the iTCO_wdt device on Martins
system.
The issue was debugged to be PCI configuration access to the PMC device
that is not present. This returns all 1's when read and this caused the
iTCO_wdt driver to accidentally request resourses used by nct6775.
It turns out that the SMI resource is only required for some ancient
systems, not the ones supported by this driver. For this reason do not
populate the SMI resource at all and drop all the related code. The
driver now always populates the main I/O resource and only in case of SPT
(Intel Sunrisepoint) compatible devices it adds another resource for the
NO_REBOOT bit. These two resources are of different types so
platform_get_resource() used by the iTCO_wdt driver continues to find
the both resources at index 0.

in atomic contexts. To achieve this, the driver must not rely on IRQs
and not call schedule(), e.g. via a sleep routine, in these cases.
With this patch the driver supports normal operation, DMA transfers and
now the polling mode or also called sleep-free or IRQ-less operation. It
makes the code not simpler or easier to read, but atomic I2C transfers
are needed on some hardware configurations, e.g. to trigger reboots on

This change stops the buffer writes to the requested boundary and
reports the error. The controller will be reset so normal transactions

It is more robust to check completion status in addition to the left time
in a case of DMA transfer because transfer's completion happens in two
phases [one is ISR, other is tasklet] and thus it is possible that DMA is
completed while I2C completion awaiting times out because of the deferred
notification done by the DMA driver. The DMA completion status becomes
100% actual after DMA synchronization. This fixes spurious DMA timeouts

Potentially it is possible that interrupt may fire after transfer timeout.
That may not end up well for the next transfer because interrupt handling
may race with hardware resetting.
This is very unlikely to happen in practice, but anyway let's prevent the
potential problem by enabling interrupt only at the moments when it is

I noticed that sometime I2C clock is kept enabled during suspend-resume.
This happens because runtime PM defers dynamic suspension and thus it may
happen that runtime PM is in active state when system enters into suspend.
In particular I2C controller that is used for CPU's DVFS is often kept ON

Boards with some of the 32-bit SoCs (mostly Meson8 and Meson8m2) use a
Ricoh RN5T618 PMU which acts as system power controller. The driver for
the system power controller may need to the I2C bus just before shutting
down or rebooting the system. At this stage the interrupts may be
disabled already.
Implement the master_xfer_atomic callback so the driver for the RN5T618
PMU can communicate properly with the PMU when shutting down or
rebooting the board. The CTRL register has a status bit which can be
polled to determine when processing has completed. According to the
public S805 datasheet the value 0 means "idle" and 1 means "running".

Here is the "big" set of driver core patches for 5.5-rc1
There's a few minor cleanups and fixes in here, but the majority of the
patches in here fall into two buckets:
- debugfs api cleanups and fixes
- driver core device link support for boot dependancy issues
The debugfs api cleanups are working to slowly refactor the debugfs apis
so that it is even harder to use incorrectly. That work has been
happening for the past few kernel releases and will continue over time,
it's a long-term project/goal
The driver core device link support missed 5.4 by just a bit, so it's
been sitting and baking for many months now. It's from Saravana Kannan
to help resolve the problems that DT-based systems have at boot time
with dependancy graphs and kernel modules. Turns out that no one has
actually tried to build a generic arm64 kernel with loads of modules and
have it "just work" for a variety of platforms (like a distro kernel)
The big problem turned out to be a lack of depandancy information
between different areas of DT entries, and the work here resolves that
problem and now allows devices to boot properly, and quicker than a
monolith kernel.
All of these patches have been in linux-next for a long time with no
reported issues.

Many cheap devices use Silead touchscreen controllers. Testing has shown
repeatedly that these touchscreen controllers work fine at 400KHz, but for
unknown reasons do not work properly at 100KHz. This has been seen on
both ARM and x86 devices using totally different i2c controllers.
On some devices the ACPI tables list another device at the same I2C-bus
as only being capable of 100KHz, testing has shown that these other
devices work fine at 400KHz (as can be expected of any recent I2C hw).
This commit makes i2c_acpi_find_bus_speed() always return 400KHz if a
Silead touchscreen controller is present, fixing the touchscreen not
working on devices which ACPI tables' wrongly list another device on the
same bus as only being capable of 100KHz.
Specifically this fixes the touchscreen on the Jumper EZpad 6 m4 not
working.

The i2c subsystem was enhanced circa 2015 to support operating as

Migrate the i2c-pxa driver to the general i2c-slave APIs so that
existing drivers, such as the i2c-slave-eeprom, can be used.

When in slave mode, an arbitration loss (ARLO) may be detected before the
slave had a chance to detect the stop condition (STOPF in ISR).
This is seen when two master + slave adapters switch their roles. It
provokes the i2c bus to be stuck, busy as SCL line is stretched.
- the I2C_SLAVE_STOP event is never generated due to STOPF flag is set but
don't generate an irq (race with ARLO irq, STOPIE is masked). STOPF flag
remains set until next master xfer (e.g. when STOPIE irq get unmasked).
In this case, completion is generated too early: immediately upon new
transfer request (then it doesn't send all data).
- Some data get stuck in TXDR register. As a consequence, the controller
stretches the SCL line: the bus gets busy until a future master transfer
triggers the bus busy / recovery mechanism (this can take time... and
may never happen at all)
So choice is to let the STOPF being detected by the slave isr handler,
to properly handle this stop condition. E.g. don't mask IRQs in error
handler, when the slave is running.

Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.
There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
mailing list.
Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
always gets it wrong).
There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.
There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
issues.

"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,

- drop profile field from priv data
- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:

- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper
- leds-lm3697, leds-lm36274, leds-lm3532:

- leds-lm3532:
- fix brightness control for i2c mode

RST conversion is happily mostly behind us.
- A new document on reproducible builds.
- We finally got around to zapping the documentation for hardware support
that was removed in 2004; one doesn't want to rush these things.
- The usual assortment of fixes, typo corrections, etc.
You'll still find a handful of annoying conflicts against other trees,
mostly tied to the last RST conversions; resolutions are straightforward
and the linux-next ones are good.

The main change this time around is a cleanup of some of the oldest
platforms based on the XScale and ARM9 CPU cores, which are between 10
and 20 years old.
The Kendin/Micrel/Microchip KS8695, Winbond/Nuvoton W90x900 and Intel
IOP33x/IOP13xx platforms are removed after we determined that nobody is
using them any more.
The TI Davinci and NXP LPC32xx platforms on the other hand are still in
active use and are converted to the ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM build, meaning
that we can compile a kernel that works on these along with most other
ARMv5 platforms. Changes toward that goal are also merged for IOP32x,
but additional work is needed to complete this. Patches for the
remaining ARMv5 platforms have started but need more work and some
testing.
Support for the new ASpeed AST2600 gets added, this is based on the
Cortex-A7 ARMv7 core, and is a newer version of the existing ARMv5 and
ARMv6 chips in the same family.
Other changes include a cleanup of the ST-Ericsson ux500 platform
and the move of the TI Davinci platform to a new clocksource driver.

The problem is that the Tegra PCIe driver indirectly uses I2C for
controlling some regulators and the I2C driver is now being suspended
before the PCIe driver causing the PCIe suspend to fail. The Tegra PCIe
driver is suspended during the NOIRQ phase and this cannot be changed
due to other dependencies. Therefore, we also need to move the suspend
handling for the Tegra I2C driver to the NOIRQ phase as well.
In order to move the I2C suspend handling to the NOIRQ phase we also
need to avoid calling pm_runtime_get/put() because per commit
1e2ef05bb8 ("PM: Limit race conditions between runtime PM and system
sleep (v2)") these cannot be called early in resume. The function
tegra_i2c_init(), called during resume, calls pm_runtime_get/put() and
so move these calls outside of tegra_i2c_init(), so this function can
be used during the NOIRQ resume phase.

The behaviour of the EEPROM in the case where we only send an 8bit
address to a 16bit address EEPROM is not defined. Added comment about
that the slave-eeprom might behave differently from how an actual device
does (only one model measured).

The drivers sets IRQF_ONESHOT and passes only a primary handler. The IRQ
is masked while the primary is handler is invoked independently of
IRQF_ONESHOT.
With IRQF_ONESHOT the core code will not force-thread the interrupt and
this is probably not intended. I *assume* that the original author copied
the IRQ registration from another driver which passed a primary and
secondary handler and removed the secondary handler but keeping the
ONESHOT flag.
Remove IRQF_ONESHOT.
