46ad0840b1 locking/rwsem: Remove arch specific rwsem files
As the generic rwsem-xadd code is using the appropriate acquire and
release versions of the atomic operations, the arch specific rwsem.h
files will not be that much faster than the generic code as long as the
atomic functions are properly implemented. So we can remove those arch
specific rwsem.h and stop building asm/rwsem.h to reduce maintenance
effort.

Currently, only x86, alpha and ia64 have implemented architecture
specific fast paths. I don't have access to alpha and ia64 systems for
testing, but they are legacy systems that are not likely to be updated
to the latest kernel anyway.

By using a rwsem microbenchmark, the total locking rates on a 4-socket
56-core 112-thread x86-64 system before and after the patch were as
follows (mixed means equal # of read and write locks):

                      Before Patch After Patch
   # of Threads wlock rlock mixed wlock rlock mixed
   ------------ ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----
        1 29,201 30,143 29,458 28,615 30,172 29,201
        2 6,807 13,299 1,171 7,725 15,025 1,804
        4 6,504 12,755 1,520 7,127 14,286 1,345
        8 6,762 13,412 764 6,826 13,652 726
       16 6,693 15,408 662 6,599 15,938 626
       32 6,145 15,286 496 5,549 15,487 511
       64 5,812 15,495 60 5,858 15,572 60

There were some run-to-run variations for the multi-thread tests. For
x86-64, using the generic C code fast path seems to be a little bit
faster than the assembly version with low lock contention. Looking at
the assembly version of the fast paths, there are assembly to/from C
code wrappers that save and restore all the callee-clobbered registers
(7 registers on x86-64). The assembly generated from the generic C
code doesn't need to do that. That may explain the slight performance
gain here.

The generic asm rwsem.h can also be merged into kernel/locking/rwsem.h
with no code change as no other code other than those under
kernel/locking needs to access the internal rwsem macros and functions.

7cbbbb8bc2 kbuild: warn redundant generic-y
The generic-y is redundant under the following condition:

 - arch has its own implementation

 - the same header is added to generated-y

 - the same header is added to mandatory-y

If a redundant generic-y is found, the warning like follows is displayed:

  scripts/Makefile.asm-generic:20: redundant generic-y found in arch/arm/include/asm/Kbuild: timex.h

2b5a9a37e9 time: Add an asm-generic/compat.h file
We have a couple of files that try to include asm/compat.h on
architectures where this is available. Those should generally use the
higher-level linux/compat.h file, but that in turn fails to include
asm/compat.h when CONFIG_COMPAT is disabled, unless we can provide
that header on all architectures.

This adds the asm/compat.h for all remaining architectures to
simplify the dependencies.

Architectures that are getting removed in linux-4.17 are not changed
here, to avoid needless conflicts with the removal patches. Those
architectures are broken by this patch, but we have already shown
that they have no users.

1cce91dfc8 ARM: 8715/1: add a private asm/unaligned.h
The asm-generic/unaligned.h header provides two different implementations
for accessing unaligned variables: the access_ok.h version used when
CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS is set pretends that all pointers
are in fact aligned, while the le_struct.h version convinces gcc that the
alignment of a pointer is '1', to make it issue the correct load/store
instructions depending on the architecture flags.

On ARMv5 and older, we always use the second version, to let the compiler
use byte accesses. On ARMv6 and newer, we currently use the access_ok.h
version, so the compiler can use any instruction including stm/ldm and
ldrd/strd that will cause an alignment trap. This trap can significantly
impact performance when we have to do a lot of fixups and, worse, has
led to crashes in the LZ4 decompressor code that does not have a trap
handler.

This adds an ARM specific version of asm/unaligned.h that uses the
le_struct.h/be_struct.h implementation unconditionally. This should lead
to essentially the same code on ARMv6+ as before, with the exception of
using regular load/store instructions instead of the trapping instructions
multi-register variants.

The crash in the LZ4 decompressor code was probably introduced by the
patch replacing the LZ4 implementation, commit 4e1a33b105 ("lib: update
LZ4 compressor module"), so linux-4.11 and higher would be affected most.
However, we probably want to have this backported to all older stable
kernels as well, to help with the performance issues.

There are two follow-ups that I think we should also work on, but not
backport to stable kernels, first to change the asm-generic version of
the header to remove the ARM special case, and second to review all
other uses of CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS to see if they
might be affected by the same problem on ARM.

ae884913ac ARM: move generic-y of exported headers to uapi/asm/Kbuild
Since commit fcc8487d47 ("uapi: export all headers under uapi
directories"), all (and only) headers under uapi directories are
exported, but asm-generic wrappers are still exceptions.

To complete de-coupling the uapi from kernel headers, move generic-y
of exported headers to uapi/asm/Kbuild.

With this change, "make headers_install" will just need to parse
uapi/asm/Kbuild to build up exported headers.

b672592f02 sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headers
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures:

	* powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y)
	* s390

And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support
from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations.

A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch
implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally
remove include/linux/cputime.h .

8478132a87 Revert "arm: move exports to definitions"
This reverts commit 4dd1837d75.

Moving the exports for assembly code into the assembly files breaks
KSYM trimming, but also breaks modversions.

While fixing the KSYM trimming is trivial, fixing modversions brings
us to a technically worse position that we had prior to the above
change:

- We end up with the prototype definitions divorsed from everything
else, which means that adding or removing assembly level ksyms
  become more fragile:
  * if adding a new assembly ksyms export, a missed prototype in
asm-prototypes.h results in a successful build if no module in
the selected configuration makes use of the symbol.
  * when removing a ksyms export, asm-prototypes.h will get forgotten,
with armksyms.c, you'll get a build error if you forget to touch
    the file.

- We end up with the same amount of include files and prototypes,
they're just in a header file instead of a .c file with their
  exports.

As for lines of code, we don't get much of a size reduction:
 (original commit)
 47 files changed, 131 insertions(+), 208 deletions(-)
 (fix for ksyms trimming)
 7 files changed, 18 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-)
 (two fixes for modversions)
 1 file changed, 34 insertions(+)
 3 files changed, 7 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-)
which results in a net total of only 25 lines deleted.

As there does not seem to be much benefit from this change of approach,
revert the change.

96a8fae0fe ARM: convert to generated system call tables
Convert ARM to use a similar mechanism to x86 to generate the unistd.h
system call numbers and the various kernel system call tables. This
means that rather than having to edit three places (asm/unistd.h for
the total number of system calls, uapi/asm/unistd.h for the system call
numbers, and arch/arm/kernel/calls.S for the call table) we have only
one place to edit, making the process much more simple.

The scripts have knowledge of the table padding requirements, so there's
no need to worry about __NR_syscalls not fitting within the immediate
constant field of ALU instructions anymore.

We only map up to the beginning of data because data has already been

f2abeef9fd mm: clean up per architecture MM hook header files
Commit 2ae416b142 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty
header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which
doesn't need to define mm hooks.

As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use
of a generic header file included via each per architecture
asm/include/Kbuild file.

The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has
to defined the arch_remap MM hook.

1713ce7c43 ARM: 8329/1: miscellaneous vdso infrastructure, preparation
Define the layout of the data structure shared between kernel and
userspace.

Track the vdso address in the mm_context; needed for communicating
AT_SYSINFO_EHDR to the ELF loader.

Add declarations for arm_install_vdso; implementation is in a
following patch.

Define AT_SYSINFO_EHDR, and, if CONFIG_VDSO=y, report the vdso shared
object address via the ELF auxiliary vector.

Note - this adds the AT_SYSINFO_EHDR in a new user-visible header
asm/auxvec.h; this is consistent with other architectures.

f47671e2d8 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.linaro.org/people/rmk/linux-arm
Pull ARM updates from Russell King:
 "Included in this series are:

   1. BE8 (modern big endian) changes for ARM from Ben Dooks
   2. big.Little support from Nicolas Pitre and Dave Martin
   3. support for LPAE systems with all system memory above 4GB
   4. Perf updates from Will Deacon
   5. Additional prefetching and other performance improvements from Will.
   6. Neon-optimised AES implementation fro Ard.
   7. A number of smaller fixes scattered around the place.

There is a rather horrid merge conflict in tools/perf - I was never
notified of the conflict because it originally occurred between Will's
tree and other stuff. Consequently I have a resolution which Will
forwarded me, which I'll forward on immediately after sending this
  mail.

The other notable thing is I'm expecting some build breakage in the
crypto stuff on ARM only with Ard's AES patches. These were merged
into a stable git branch which others had already pulled, so there's
little I can do about this. The problem is caused because these
patches have a dependency on some code in the crypto git tree - I
tried requesting a branch I can pull to resolve these, and all I got
each time from the crypto people was "we'll revert our patches then"
which would only make things worse since I still don't have the
dependent patches. I've no idea what's going on there or how to
resolve that, and since I can't split these patches from the rest of
this pull request, I'm rather stuck with pushing this as-is or
  reverting Ard's patches.

Since it should "come out in the wash" I've left them in - the only
build problems they seem to cause at the moment are with randconfigs,
and since it's a new feature anyway. However, if by -rc1 the
dependencies aren't in, I think it'd be best to revert Ard's patches"

I resolved the perf conflict roughly as per the patch sent by Russell,
but there may be some differences. Any errors are likely mine. Let's
see how the crypto issues work out..

14318efb32 ARM: 7587/1: implement optimized percpu variable access
Use the previously unused TPIDRPRW register to store percpu offsets.
TPIDRPRW is only accessible in PL1, so it can only be used in the kernel.

This replaces 2 loads with a mrc instruction for each percpu variable
access. With hackbench, the performance improvement is 1.4% on Cortex-A9
(highbank). Taking an average of 30 runs of "hackbench -l 1000" yields:

Before: 6.2191
After: 6.1348

Will Deacon reported similar delta on v6 with 11MPCore.

The asm "memory clobber" are needed here to ensure the percpu offset
gets reloaded. Testing by Will found that this would not happen in
__schedule() which is a bit of a special case as preemption is disabled
but the execution can move cores.

The original macro user_termio_to_kernel_termios was not endian safe. It
used an unsigned short ptr to access the low bits in a 32-bit word.

Both user_termio_to_kernel_termios and kernel_termios_to_user_termio are
missing error checking on put_user/get_user and copy_to/from_user.

d25c881aa3 ARM: 7493/1: use generic unaligned.h
This moves ARM over to the asm-generic/unaligned.h header. This has the
benefit of better code generated especially for ARMv7 on gcc 4.7+
compilers.

As Arnd Bergmann, points out: The asm-generic version uses the "struct"
version for native-endian unaligned access and the "byteshift" version
for the opposite endianess. The current ARM version however uses the
"byteshift" implementation for both.

Thanks to Nicolas Pitre for the excellent analysis:

Test case:

int foo (int *x) { return get_unaligned(x); }
long long bar (long long *x) { return get_unaligned(x); }

With the current ARM version:

foo:
	ldrb	r3, [r0, #2]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D) + 2B], MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D) + 2B]

bar:
	stmfd	sp!, {r4, r5, r6, r7}	@,

	orr	ip, ip, r7, asl #8	@, tmp189, tmp188, MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D) + 1B],
	orr	r3, r5, r6, asl #24	@,, tmp178, MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D) + 7B],
	orr	ip, ip, r4	@ tmp191, tmp189, MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D)]
	orr	ip, ip, r1, asl #24	@, tmp194, tmp191, MEM[(const u8 *)x_1(D) + 3B],
	mov	r1, r3	@,
	orr	r0, r2, ip	@ tmp171, tmp184, tmp194
	ldmfd	sp!, {r4, r5, r6, r7}
	bx	lr

In both cases the code is slightly suboptimal. One may wonder why
wasting r2 with the constant 0 in the second case for example. And all
the mov's could be folded in subsequent orr's, etc.

Now with the asm-generic version:

foo:
	ldr	r0, [r0, #0]	@ unaligned	@,* x
	bx	lr	@

bar:
	mov	r3, r0	@ x, x
	ldr	r0, [r0, #0]	@ unaligned	@,* x
	ldr	r1, [r3, #4]	@ unaligned	@,
	bx	lr	@

This is way better of course, but only because this was compiled for
ARMv7. In this case the compiler knows that the hardware can do
unaligned word access. This isn't that obvious for foo(), but if we
remove the get_unaligned() from bar as follows:

long long bar (long long *x) {return *x; }

then the resulting code is:

bar:
	ldmia	r0, {r0, r1}	@ x,,
	bx	lr	@

So this proves that the presumed aligned vs unaligned cases does have
influence on the instructions the compiler may use and that the above
unaligned code results are not just an accident.

Still... this isn't fully conclusive without at least looking at the
resulting assembly fron a pre ARMv6 compilation. Let's see with an
ARMv5 target:

foo:
	ldrb	r3, [r0, #0]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp139,* x
	ldrb	r1, [r0, #1]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp140,
	ldrb	r2, [r0, #2]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp143,
	ldrb	r0, [r0, #3]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp146,
	orr	r3, r3, r1, asl #8	@, tmp142, tmp139, tmp140,
	orr	r3, r3, r2, asl #16	@, tmp145, tmp142, tmp143,
	orr	r0, r3, r0, asl #24	@,, tmp145, tmp146,
	bx	lr	@

bar:
	stmfd	sp!, {r4, r5, r6, r7}	@,
	ldrb	r2, [r0, #0]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp139,* x
	ldrb	r7, [r0, #1]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp140,
	ldrb	r3, [r0, #4]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp149,
	ldrb	r6, [r0, #5]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp150,
	ldrb	r5, [r0, #2]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp143,
	ldrb	r4, [r0, #6]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp153,
	ldrb	r1, [r0, #7]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp156,
	ldrb	ip, [r0, #3]	@ zero_extendqisi2	@ tmp146,
	orr	r2, r2, r7, asl #8	@, tmp142, tmp139, tmp140,
	orr	r3, r3, r6, asl #8	@, tmp152, tmp149, tmp150,
	orr	r2, r2, r5, asl #16	@, tmp145, tmp142, tmp143,
	orr	r3, r3, r4, asl #16	@, tmp155, tmp152, tmp153,
	orr	r0, r2, ip, asl #24	@,, tmp145, tmp146,
	orr	r1, r3, r1, asl #24	@,, tmp155, tmp156,
	ldmfd	sp!, {r4, r5, r6, r7}
	bx	lr

Compared to the initial results, this is really nicely optimized and I
couldn't do much better if I were to hand code it myself.

4a8052d844 ARM: 7491/1: use generic version of identical asm headers
Inspired by the AArgh64 claim that it should be separate from ARM and one
reason was being able to use more asm-generic headers. Doing a diff of
arch/arm/include/asm and include/asm-generic there are numerous asm
headers which are functionally identical to their asm-generic counterparts.
Delete the ARM version and use the generic ones.

3f8e288033 ARM: 7006/1: Migrate to asm-generic wrapper support
With d8ecc5c (kbuild: asm-generic support, 2011-04-27) we can
remove a handful of asm-generic wrappers in ARM code. Since the
generic version of sizes.h doesn't contain SZ_48M, we replace
the 4 users of SZ_48M with the equivalent SZ_32M + SZ_16M.
