Robert Jarzmik reports that his PXA25x system fails to boot with 4.12,
failing at __flush_whole_cache in arch/arm/mm/proc-xscale.S:215:
0xc0019e20 <+0>: ldr r1, [pc, #788]
0xc0019e24 <+4>: ldr r0, [r1] <== here
with r1 containing 0xc06f82cd, which is the address of "clean_addr".
Examination of the System.map shows:
c06f22c8 D user_pmd_table
c06f22cc d __warned.19178
c06f22cd d clean_addr
indicating that a .data.unlikely section has appeared just before the
.data section from proc-xscale.S. According to objdump -h, it appears
that our assembly files default their .data alignment to 2**0, which
is bad news if the preceding .data section size is not power-of-2
aligned at link time.
Add the appropriate .align directives to all assembly files in arch/arm
that are missing them where we require an appropriate alignment.

We are planning to share more code between different NAND based
devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that
we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into
include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header
containing all common structure and function prototypes.

We get a link error trying to access the w100fb_gpio_read/write
functions from the platform when the driver is a loadable module
or not built-in, so the platform already uses 'select' to hard-enable
the driver.
However, that fails if the framebuffer subsystem is disabled
altogether.
I've considered various ways to fix this properly, but they
all seem like too much work or too risky, so this simply
adds another 'select' to force the subsystem on as well.

In commit 3169663ac5 "ARM: sa11x0/pxa: convert OS timer registers
to IOMEM", the definition of the OSCR macro was changed to be an
__iomem pointer, but the same register is also used by the XIP
code. This patch does the corresponding change here as well.
On PXA, the IRQ register definitions were removed even earlier, in
commit 5d284e353e ("ARM: pxa: avoid accessing interrupt registers
directly"). This patch unfortunately brings some of that back. An
earlier version of my patch moved the code into an external function,
which could not work for CONFIG_XIP_KERNEL+CONFIG_MTD_XIP, so this
restores something close to the original code.

Core:
- Export add/remove for lookup tables so that modules can export GPIO
descriptor tables.
- Handle GPIO sleep states: it is now possible to flag that a GPIO line
may loose its state during suspend/resume of the system to save
power. This is used in the Wolfson Micro Arizona driver.
- ACPI-based GPIO was tightened up a lot around the edges.
- Use bitmap_fill() to speed up a loop.
New drivers:
- Exar XRA1403 SPI-based GPIO.
- MVEBU driver now supports Armada 7K and 8K.
- LP87565 PMIC GPIO.
- Renesas R-CAR R8A7743 (RZ/G1M).
- The new IOT2040 8250 serial/GPIO also comes in through this
changeset.
Substantial driver changes:
- Seriously fix the Exar 8250 GPIO portions to work.
- The MCP23S08 was moved out to a pin control driver.
- Convert MEVEBU to use regmap for register access.
- Drop Vulcan support from the Broadcom driver.
- Serious cleanup and improvement of the mockup driver, giving us a
better test coverage.
Misc:
- Lots of janitorial clean up.
- A bunch of documentation fixes.

This patch adds a support for ADS7846 touchscreen driver.
The basic functionality was tested, x_plate_ohms and y_plate_ohms were
physically measured. The value pressure_max was empirically set to match
the measured range, which is affected by x_plate_ohms and ADS samples.
The value of keep_vref_on should be set. A tested model (T-Mobile MDA
Compact PM10A) doesn't seem to use Vref pin as the input from an external
source. On this model the unset keep_vref_on cause high jitter of measured
values.
SPI framing pin (gpio_cs) must be used in GPIO mode due to an incompatible
autoframing of PXA27x controller and ADS7846 device.

In the SoC branch we normally collect classic arch/arm/mach-* contents, i.e.
C code changes for SoC platforms. This release cycle the diffstat is quite
nice, in that we're removing 3x the amount of code that's being added.
The main reason for this is that there's a removal of camera drivers for
Freescale i.MX chips (driver was removed so the device registration isn't
needed any more). There's also removal of display initialization code for OMAP
that is no longer needed.
The rest are mostly minor tweaks and cleanups; constification on Samsung
platforms, cleanup of ux500 platform data, purge of other unused platform
data/device seutp on i.MX and other good stuff.
New SoC support this cycle is for two Allwinner platforms, H2+ and V3s.

Pull ARM SoC platform updates from Arnd Bergmann:
"In the SoC branch we normally collect classic arch/arm/mach-*
contents, i.e. C code changes for SoC platforms. This release cycle
the diffstat is quite nice, in that we're removing 3x the amount of
code that's being added.
The main reason for this is that there's a removal of camera drivers
for Freescale i.MX chips (driver was removed so the device
registration isn't needed any more). There's also removal of display
initialization code for OMAP that is no longer needed.
The rest are mostly minor tweaks and cleanups; constification on
Samsung platforms, cleanup of ux500 platform data, purge of other
unused platform data/device seutp on i.MX and other good stuff.
New SoC support this cycle is for two Allwinner platforms, H2+ and
V3s"

These are updates for platform specific code on 32-bit ARM machines,
essentially anything that can not (yet) be expressed using DT files.
Noteworthy changes include:
- Added support for the TI DRA71x family of SoCs in mach-omap2,
this is an new variant of the the DRA72x/DRA74x automotive
infotainment chips we already supported for a while.
- Added support for the ST STM32F746 SoC, the first Cortex-M7
based microcontroller we support, related to the smaller
STM32F4 family.
- Renesas adds support for r8a7743 and r8a7745 in mach-shmobile,
see http://elinux.org/RZ-G
- SMP is now supported on the OX820 platform
- A lot of code in mach-omap2 gets removed as a follow-up to
removing support for board files in the previous release
- Davinci has some new work to improve USB support
- For i.MX, the performance monitor now supports profiling the
memory controller using 'perf'
Conflicts:
arch/arm/mach-shmobile/setup-rcar-gen2.c: rcar_gen2_clocks_init()
is gone, calling of_clk_init(NULL) is sufficient now.

Instead of having the smc91x driver relying on machine_is_*() calls,
provide this data through platform data, ie. idp, mainstone and
stargate.
This way, the driver doesn't need anymore machine_is_*() calls, which
wouldn't work anymore with a device-tree build.

The method to acquire the input interrupt was working in a platform data
based board, but was failing in a device-tree one when the gpio
controller was probed after pxa_cplds.
Use platform_get_irq() to benefit from the probe deferral
mechanism. Moreover, as seen in dm9000.c development, platform_get_irq()
doesn't honor the irq type IO resource (ie. edge rising for example),
and it must be passed again at irq request in a not device-tree build,
hence the irq_get_trigger_type() call.

As both pxa and sa1100 provide a clock to the timer, the rate can be

- Do away with the last users of the obsolete Kconfig options
ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB (the latter

me). We can now select GPIOLIB and be done with it, for all
archs. After some struggle it even work on UM. Not that it has
GPIO, but if it wants to, it can select the library.
- Continued efforts to make drivers properly either tristate or
bool.
- Introduce a warning for drivers assigning default triggers to
their irqchip lines when probed from device tree, so we find and
fix these ambigous drivers. It is agreed that in the OF config
path, the device tree defines trigger characteristics.
- The same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO
irqchips.
- We introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable"
as they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and
generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is
put to good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview
pin control driver.
- A new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing.
The plan is to add unit tests under tools/* for exercising this
device and verify that the kernel code paths are working as they
should.
- Make memory-mapped I/O-drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM. This was
implicit all the time, but when people started building UM
with allyesconfig or allmodconfig it exploded in their face.
- Move some stray bits of device tree and ACPI HW description
callbacks down into their respective implementation silo. These
were causing issues when compiling on !HAS_IOMEM as well, so
now eventually UM compiles the GPIOLIB library if it wants to.
New drivers:
- New driver for the Aspeed GPIO front-end companion to the
pin controller merged through the pin control tree.
- New driver for the LP873x PMIC GPIO portions.
- New driver for Technologic Systems' I2C FPGA GPIO such as

- New driver for the Intel WhiskeyCove PMIC GPIO.
- New driver for the Allwinner AXP209 PMIC GPIO portions.
- New driver for Diamond Systems 48 line GPIO-MM, another of
these port-mapped I/O expansion cards.
- Support the STMicroelectronics STMPE1600 variant in the STMPE
driver.
Driver improvements:
- The STMPE driver now supports rising/falling edge detection
properly for IRQs.
- The PCA954x will now fetch and enable its VCC regulator properly.
- Major rework of the PCA953x driver with the goal of eventually
switching it over to use regmap and thus modernize it even more.
- Switch the IOP driver to use the generic MMIO GPIO library.
- Move the ages old HTC EGPIO (extended GPIO) GPIO expander driver

concerns.

Add the required PCMCIA clock for the SA1111 "1800" device. This clock
is used to compute timing information for the PCMCIA interface in the
SoC device, rather than the SA1111. Hence, the provision of this clock
is a convenience for the driver and does not reflect the hardware, so
this must not be copied into DT.

Since its initial commit, the driver is buggy for multiple interrupts
handling. The translation from the former lubbock.c file was not
complete, and might stall all interrupt handling when multiple
interrupts occur.
This is especially true when inside the interrupt handler and if a new
interrupt comes and is not handled, leaving the output line still held,
and not creating a transition as the GPIO block behind would expect to
trigger another cplds_irq_handler() call.
For the record, the hardware is working as follows.
The interrupt mechanism relies on :
- one status register
- one mask register
Let's suppose the input irq lines are called :
- i_sa1111
- i_lan91x
- i_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the status register for each irq line is called :
- status_sa1111
- status_lan91x
- status_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the interrupt mask for each irq line is called :
- irqen_sa1111
- irqen_lan91x
- irqen_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the output irq line, connected to GPIO0 is called :
- o_gpio0
The behavior is as follows :
- o_gpio0 = not((status_sa1111 & irqen_sa1111) |
(status_lan91x & irqen_lan91x) |
(status_mmc_cd & irqen_mmc_cd))
=> this is a N-to-1 NOR gate and multiple AND gates
- irqen_* is exactly as programmed by a write to the FPGA
- status_* behavior is governed by a bi-stable D flip-flop
=> on next FPGA clock :
- if i_xxx is high, status_xxx becomes 1
- if i_xxx is low, status_xxx remains as it is
- if software sets status_xxx to 0, the D flip-flop is reset
=> status_xxx becomes 0
=> on next FPGA clock cycle, if i_xxx is high, status_xxx becomes
1 again

The init_irq and handle_irq can be declared through standard irqchip
declaration and are not necessary in machine descriptions.
This is another step towards the generic kernel for the pxa
architecture.

* A multiplication for the size determination of a memory allocation
indicated that an array data structure should be processed.
Thus use the corresponding function "kmalloc_array".
This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software.

The commit 9bf448c66d ("ARM: pxa: use generic gpio operation instead of
gpio register") from Oct 17, 2011, leads to the following static checker
warning:
arch/arm/mach-pxa/spitz_pm.c:172 spitz_charger_wakeup()
warn: double left shift '!gpio_get_value(SPITZ_GPIO_KEY_INT)
<< (1 << ((SPITZ_GPIO_KEY_INT) & 31))'
As Dan reported, the value is shifted three times :
- once by gpio_get_value(), which returns either 0 or BIT(gpio)
- once by the shift operation '<<'
- a last time by GPIO_bit(gpio) which is BIT(gpio)
Therefore the calculation lead to a chained or operator of :
- (1 << gpio) << (1 << gpio) = (2^gpio)^gpio = 2 ^ (gpio * gpio)
It is be sheer luck the former statement works, only because each gpio
used is strictly smaller than 6, and therefore 2^(gpio^2) never
overflows a 32 bits value, and because it is used as a boolean value to
check a gpio activation.
As the xxx_charger_wakeup() functions are used as a true/false detection
mechanism, take that opportunity to change their prototypes from integer
return value to boolean one.

Commit b70661c708 ("net: smc91x: use run-time configuration on all ARM
machines") broke some ARM platforms through several mistakes. Firstly,
the access size must correspond to the following rule:
(a) at least one of 16-bit or 8-bit access size must be supported
(b) 32-bit accesses are optional, and may be enabled in addition to
the above.
Secondly, it provides no emulation of 16-bit accesses, instead blindly
making 16-bit accesses even when the platform specifies that only 8-bit
is supported.
Reorganise smc91x.h so we can make use of the existing 16-bit access
emulation already provided - if 16-bit accesses are supported, use
16-bit accesses directly, otherwise if 8-bit accesses are supported,
use the provided 16-bit access emulation. If neither, BUG(). This
exactly reflects the driver behaviour prior to the commit being fixed.
Since the conversion incorrectly cut down the available access sizes on
several platforms, we also need to go through every platform and fix up
the overly-restrictive access size: Arnd assumed that if a platform can
perform 32-bit, 16-bit and 8-bit accesses, then only a 32-bit access
size needed to be specified - not so, all available access sizes must
be specified.
This likely fixes some performance regressions in doing this: if a
platform does not support 8-bit accesses, 8-bit accesses have been
emulated by performing a 16-bit read-modify-write access.
Tested on the Intel Assabet/Neponset platform, which supports only 8-bit
accesses, which was broken by the original commit.

A couple of bug fixes have come in for v4.8 so far. Since the first few were
originally meant to go into -rc1 (but didn't get sent in time for travel
reasons), the branch is unfortunately based on top of a commit in the
middle of the merge window rather than -rc1.
Content-wise we have
- A fix for the last remaining broken build in kernelci,
getting mach-shmobile to build again with SMP disabled
- A fix for a realview regression that broke real hardware but
not the qemu model that everyone uses in practice (needed
for v4.7 as well)
- A merge conflict fix for Tegra that also broke v4.7
- Two Kconfig fixes for arm64 build regressions
- A couple of arm32 build warning fixes (all harmless)
- Fixing the RTC on Exynos7 Espresso (which apparently
never worked right)
