b130d5c295 ARM: S3C24XX: change the ARCH_S3C2410 to ARCH_S3C24XX
This patch changes the ARCH name to "ARCH_S3C24XX" for Samsung
S3C2410, S3C2412, S3C2413, S3C2416, S3C2440, S3C2442, S3C2443,
and S3C2450 SoCs so that we can merge the mach-xxx directories
and plat-s3c24xx dir. to just one mach-s3c24xx for them.

I think this should be sent to upstream via samsung tree because
this touches many samsung stuff.

d9ddcec35d spi/fsl-espi: disable CONFIG_SPI_FSL_ESPI=m build
When spi_fsl_espi is chosen to be built as a module, there is a build
error because we test only CONFIG_SPI_FSL_ESPI in declaration of
struct mpc8xxx_spi in drivers/spi/spi_fsl_lib.h. Also some called
functions are not exported.

So we forbid CONFIG_SPI_FSL_ESPI to be tristate here.

The error looks like:
drivers/spi/spi_fsl_espi.c: In function 'fsl_espi_bufs':
drivers/spi/spi_fsl_espi.c:232: error: 'struct mpc8xxx_spi' has no member named 'len'

04ee585495 spi/imx: use soc name in spi device type naming scheme
Software defined version number is not stable enough to be used
in device type naming scheme. The patch changes it to use implicit
soc name for spi device type definition. In this way, we can easily
align the naming scheme with device tree binding, which comes later.

It removes fifosize from spi_imx_data and adds devtype there, so that
fifosize can be set in an inline function according to devtype.
Also, cpu_is_mx can be replaced by inline functions checking devtype.

2a64a90a2c spi/imx: merge type SPI_IMX_VER_0_7 into SPI_IMX_VER_0_4
The only difference between SPI_IMX_VER_0_7 and SPI_IMX_VER_0_4 is
.config function. The patch uses cpu_is_mx35 (to be removed) as the
temporary solution to consolidate functions spi_imx0_4_config and
spi_imx0_7_config into mx31_config. As a result, type SPI_IMX_VER_0_7
can be merged into SPI_IMX_VER_0_4.

It also renames function spi_imx0_4_reset to mx31_reset to keep
consistency with other function naming.

A couple of redundant macros, MX3_CSPISTAT and MX3_CSPISTAT_RR,
together with the useless type SPI_IMX_VER_0_5 also get cleaned up.

9c3e737561 spi/spi_bfin_sport: new driver for a SPI bus via the Blackfin SPORT peripheral
The Blackfin SPORT peripheral is a pretty flexible device. With enough
coaching, we can make it generate SPI compatible waveforms. This is
desirable as the SPORT can run at much higher clock frequencies than the
dedicated on-chip SPI peripheral, and it can do full duplex DMA. It also
opens up the possibility of multiple SPI buses in case someone wants to
dedicate a whole bus to a specific part that does not play well with
others.

8b60d6c25b spi/fsl_spi: add eSPI controller support
Add eSPI controller support based on the library code spi_fsl_lib.c.

The eSPI controller is newer controller 85xx/Pxxx devices supported.
There're some differences comparing to the SPI controller:

1. Has different register map and different bit definition
So leave the code operated the register to the driver code, not
   the common code.

2. Support 4 dedicated chip selects
The software can't controll the chip selects directly, The SPCOM[CS]
field is used to select which chip selects is used, and the
SPCOM[TRANLEN] field is set to tell the controller how long the CS
signal need to be asserted. So the driver doesn't need the chipselect
related function when transfering data, just set corresponding register
   fields to controll the chipseclect.

3. Different Transmit/Receive FIFO access register behavior
For SPI controller, the Tx/Rx FIFO access register can hold only
one character regardless of the character length, but for eSPI
controller, the register can hold 4 or 2 characters according to
the character lengths. Access the Tx/Rx FIFO access register of the
eSPI controller will shift out/in 4/2 characters one time. For SPI
subsystem, the command and data are put into different transfers, so
we need to combine all the transfers to one transfer in order to pass
   the transfer to eSPI controller.

4. The max transaction length limitation
The max transaction length one time is limitted by the SPCOM[TRANSLEN]
field which is 0xFFFF. When used mkfs.ext2 command to create ext2
filesystem on the flash, the read length will exceed the max value of
   the SPCOM[TRANSLEN] field.

f4ba6315cb spi/imx: convert driver to use platform ids
This has the advantage not to need to much cpu_is_... macros. Still more
when imx51 support is added which has two different spi interfaces which
would introduce additional checks on the device id.

With this setup it's not possible for the compiler anymore to detect the
unused functions, so four additional kconfig symbols are introduced to
ifdef out the unneeded functions in the callback array and all these
functions are marked with __maybe_unused to suppress the corresponding
gcc warnings.

Comparing the driver footprint with and without the patch for a mx27
kernel yields:

add/remove: 2/0 grow/shrink: 2/0 up/down: 280/0 (280)
function old new delta
spi_imx_devtype - 192 +192
spi_imx_probe 980 1032 +52
spi_imx_devtype_data - 32 +32
spi_imx_setupxfer 276 280 +4

Later when the platform code is updated to use the platform ids, the
autodetection can be removed which will make the driver a bit smaller
again. (~60 Bytes in my test.)

34b8c66173 spi: Add Freescale/Motorola Coldfire QSPI driver
Add support for the QSPI controller found some on Freescale/Motorola
Coldfire MCUs.

Full duplex, active high cs, spi modes 0-3 and word sizes 8-16 bits are
supported. The hardware drives the MISO, MOSI and SCLK lines, but the chip
selects are managed via GPIO and must be configured by the board code.

The QSPI controller has an 80 byte buffer which allows us to transfer up to 16
words at a time. For transfers longer than 16 words, we split the buffer in
half so we can update in one half while the controller is operating on the
other half. Interrupt latencies then ultimately limits our sustained thru-put
to something less than half the maximum speed supported by the part.

230d42d422 spi: Add s3c64xx SPI Controller driver
Each SPI controller has exactly one CS line and as such doesn't
provide for multi-cs. We implement a workaround to support
multi-cs by _not_ configuring the mux'ed CS pin for each SPI
controller. The CS mechanism is assumed to be fully machine
specific - the driver doesn't even assume some GPIO pin is used
to control the CS.

The driver selects between DMA and POLLING mode depending upon
the xfer size - DMA mode for xfers bigger than FIFO size, POLLING
mode otherwise.

The driver has been designed to be capable of running SoCs since
s3c64xx and till date, for that reason some of the register fields
have been passed via, SoC specific, platform data.

Add pseudo-DMA by FIQ to the S3C24XX SPI driver. This allows the driver

Since this patch requires the addition of an assembly file to hold the FIQ

35c9049b27 Add OMAP spi100k driver
This change adds the OMAP SPI 100k driver created by
Fabrice Crohas <fcrohas@gmail.com>. This SPI bus is found on
OMAP7xx-series smartphones, and for many, the touchscreen is
attached to this bus.

The lion's share of the work was done by Fabrice on this driver --
I am merely porting it from the Linwizard project on his behalf.

8051effcbc spi: SuperH MSIOF SPI Master driver V2
This patch is V2 of SPI Master support for the SuperH MSIOF.
Full duplex, spi mode 0-3, active high cs, 3-wire and lsb
first should all be supported, but the driver has so far
only been tested with "mmc_spi".

The MSIOF hardware comes with 32-bit FIFOs for receive and
transmit, and this driver simply breaks the SPI messages
into FIFO-sized chunks. The MSIOF hardware manages the pins
for clock, receive and transmit (sck/miso/mosi), but the chip
select pin is managed by software and must be configured as
a regular GPIO pin by the board code.

Performance wise there is still room for improvement, but
on a Ecovec board with the built-in sh7724 MSIOF0 this driver
gets Mini-sd read speeds of about half a megabyte per second.

Future work include better clock setup and merging of 8-bit
transfers into 32-bit words to reduce interrupt load and
improve throughput.

This patch adds in support for the DS570 IP.

It's register compatible with the DS464, but adds support for 8/16/32 SPI.

The 8/16/32 support is added by attaching callbacks reading/writing the
proper amount of data. To indicate to the driver which amount of bits
to use a new field is introduced in the platform data struct.

That means that today we support almost all MPC SPI controllers:

- MPC834x-style controllers (support PIO mode only);

- QE SPI controllers in CPU mode (PIO mode with shift quirks);
- QE SPI controllers in buffer descriptors (DMA) mode;

d29389de0b spi_gpio driver
Generalize the old at91rm9200 "bootstrap" bitbanging SPI master driver as
"spi_gpio", so it works with arbitrary GPIOs and can be configured through
platform_data. Such SPI masters support:

 - any number of bus instances (bus_num is the platform_device.id)
 - any number of chipselects (one GPIO per spi_device)
 - all four SPI_MODE values, and SPI_CS_HIGH
 - i/o word sizes from 1 to 32 bits;
 - devices configured as with any other spi_master controller

When configured using platform_data, this provides relatively low clock
rates. On platforms that support inlined GPIO calls, significantly
improved transfer speeds are also possible with a semi-custom driver.
(It's still painful when accessing flash memory, but less so.)

Sanity checked by using this version to replace both native controllers on
a board with six different SPI slaves, relying on three different
SPI_MODE_* values and both SPI_CS_HIGH settings for correct operation.

c9bfcb3151 spi_mpc83xx: much improved driver
The current driver may cause glitches on SPI CLK line since one must disable
the SPI controller before changing any HW settings. Fix this by implementing
a local spi_transfer function that won't change speed and/or word size while
CS is active.

While doing that heavy lifting a few other issues were addressed too:
 - Make word size 16 and 32 work too.
 - Honor bits_per_word and speed_hz in spi transaction.
 - Optimize the common path.

This also stops using the "bitbang" framework (except for a few constants).

63bd23591e au1550 SPI controller driver
Here is a driver for the Alchemy au1550 PSC (Programmable Serial
Controller) in SPI master mode.

It supports dma transfers using the Alchemy descriptor based dma controller
for 4-8 bits per word SPI transfers. For 9-24 bits per word transfers, pio
irq based mode is used to avoid setup of dma channels from scratch on each
number of bits per word change.

Tested with au1550; this may also work on other MIPS Alchemy cpus, like
au1200/au1210/au1250.  Used extensively with SD card connected via SPI;
this handles 8.1MHz SPI clock transfers using dma without any problem (the
highest SPI clock freq possible with au1550 running on 324MHz).

The driver supports sharing of SPI bus by multiple devices. All features
of Alchemy SPI mode are supported (all SPI modes, msb/lsb first, bits per
word in 4-24 range).

As the SPI clock of the controller depends on main input clock that shall
be configured externally, platform data structure for au1550 SPI controller
driver contains mainclk_hz attribute to define the input clock rate. From
this value, dividers of the controller for SPI clock are set up for
required frequency.

Cleaned up, bugfixed; much simplified; added preliminary documentation.

Works with mdev given CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED; and presumably udev.

Updated SPI_IOC_MESSAGE ioctl to full spi_message semantics, supporting
groups of one or more transfers (each of which may be full duplex if
 desired).

69c202afa8 [PATCH] SPI: Freescale iMX SPI controller driver (BIS+)
Add the SPI controller driver for Freescale i.MX(S/L/1).
Main features summary:

 > Per chip setup via board specific code and/or protocol driver.
 > Per transfer setup.
 > PIO transfers.
 > DMA transfers.
 > Managing of NULL tx / rx buffer for rd only / wr only transfers.

This patch replace patch-2.6.20-rc4-spi_imx with the following changes:
 > Few cosmetic changes.
 > Function map_dma_buffers now return 0 for success and -1 for failure.
 > Solved a bug inside spi_imx_probe function (wrong error path).
 > Solved a bug inside setup function (bad undo setup for max_speed_hz).
 > For read-only transfers, always write zero bytes.

This is almost the same as the 'BIS' version sent by Andrea, except for
updating the 'DUMMY' byte so that read-only transfers shift out zeroes.
That part of the API changed recently, since some half duplex peripheral
chips require that semantic.

fdb3c18d63 [PATCH] SPI controller driver for OMAP Microwire
This adds a SPI driver for the Microwire controller on OMAP1 chips. This

Microwire only supports half duplex transfers, but that's all that most SPI
protocols need. When full duplex, or higher speeds, are needed there are
several other controllers that can be used on OMAP.

9904f22a72 [PATCH] spi: add spi_bitbang driver
This adds a bitbanging spi master, hooking up to board/adapter-specific glue
code which knows how to set and read the signals (gpios etc).

This code kicks in after the glue code creates a platform_device with the
right platform_data. That data includes I/O loops, which will usually
come from expanding an inline function (provided in the header). One goal
is that the I/O loops should be easily optimized down to a few GPIO register
accesses, in common cases, for speed and minimized overhead.

This understands all the currently defined protocol tweaking options in the
SPI framework, and might eventually serve as as reference implementation.

  - different word sizes (1..32 bits)
  - differing clock rates
  - SPI modes differing by CPOL (affecting chip select and I/O loops)
  - SPI modes differing by CPHA (affecting I/O loops)
  - delays (usecs) after transfers
  - temporarily deselecting chips in mid-transfer

A lot of hardware could work with this framework, though common types of
controller can't reach peak performance without switching to a driver
structure that supports pipelining of transfers (e.g. DMA queues) and maybe
controllers (e.g. IRQ driven).

8ae12a0d85 [PATCH] spi: simple SPI framework
This is the core of a small SPI framework, implementing the model of a
queue of messages which complete asynchronously (with thin synchronous
wrappers on top).

  - It's still less than 2KB of ".text" (ARM). If there's got to be a
mid-layer for something so simple, that's the right size budget. :)

  - The guts use board-specific SPI device tables to build the driver
model tree. (Hardware probing is rarely an option.)

  - This version of Kconfig includes no drivers. At this writing there
are two known master controller drivers (PXA/SSP, OMAP MicroWire)
and three protocol drivers (CS8415a, ADS7846, DataFlash) with LKML
mentions of other drivers in development.

  - No userspace API. There are several implementations to compare.
Implement them like any other driver, and bind them with sysfs.

The changes from last version posted to LKML (on 11-Nov-2005) are minor,
and include:

  - One bugfix (removes a FIXME), with the visible effect of making device
names be "spiB.C" where B is the bus number and C is the chipselect.

  - The "caller provides DMA mappings" mechanism now has kerneldoc, for
DMA drivers that want to be fancy.

  - Hey, the framework init can be subsys_init. Even though board init
logic fires earlier, at arch_init ... since the framework init is
for driver support, and the board init support uses static init.

  - Various additional spec/doc clarifications based on discussions
with other folk. It adds a brief "thank you" at the end, for folk
who've helped nudge this framework into existence.

As I've said before, I think that "protocol tweaking" is the main support
that this driver framework will need to evolve.

From: Mark Underwood <basicmark@yahoo.com>
