drm/radeon: introduce kernel modesetting for radeon hardware Add kernel modesetting support to radeon driver, use the ttm memory manager to manage memory and DRM/GEM to provide userspace API. In order to avoid backward compatibility issue and to allow clean design and code the radeon kernel modesetting use different code path than old radeon/drm driver. When kernel modesetting is enabled the IOCTL of radeon/drm driver are considered as invalid and an error message is printed in the log and they return failure. KMS enabled userspace will use new API to talk with the radeon/drm driver. The new API provide functions to create/destroy/share/mmap buffer object which are then managed by the kernel memory manager (here TTM). In order to submit command to the GPU the userspace provide a buffer holding the command stream, along this buffer userspace have to provide a list of buffer object used by the command stream. The kernel radeon driver will then place buffer in GPU accessible memory and will update command stream to reflect the position of the different buffers. The kernel will also perform security check on command stream provided by the user, we want to catch and forbid any illegal use of the GPU such as DMA into random system memory or into memory not owned by the process supplying the command stream. This part of the code is still incomplete and this why we propose that patch as a staging driver addition, future security might forbid current experimental userspace to run. This code support the following hardware : R1XX,R2XX,R3XX,R4XX,R5XX (radeon up to X1950). Works is underway to provide support for R6XX, R7XX and newer hardware (radeon from HD2XXX to HD4XXX). vga_switcheroo: initial implementation (v15) Many new laptops now come with 2 gpus, one to be used for low power modes and one for gaming/on-ac applications. These GPUs are typically wired to the laptop panel and VGA ports via a multiplexer unit which is controlled via ACPI methods. 4 combinations of systems typically exist - with 2 ACPI methods. Intel/ATI - Lenovo W500/T500 - use ATPX ACPI method ATI/ATI - some ASUS - use ATPX ACPI Method Intel/Nvidia - - use _DSM ACPI method Nvidia/Nvidia - - use _DSM ACPI method. TODO: This patch adds support for the ATPX method and initial bits for the _DSM methods that need to written by someone with access to the hardware. Add a proper non-debugfs interface - need to get some proper testing first. v2: add power up/down support for both devices on W500 puts i915/radeon into D3 and cuts power to radeon. v3: redo probing methods, no DMI list, drm devices call to register with switcheroo, it tries to find an ATPX method on any device and once there is two devices + ATPX it inits the switcher. v4: ATPX msg handling using buffers - should work on more machines v5: rearchitect after more mjg59 discussion - move ATPX handling to radeon driver. v6: add file headers + initial nouveau bits (to be filled out). v7: merge delayed switcher code. v8: avoid suspend/resume of gpu that is off v9: rearchitect - mjg59 is always right. - move all ATPX code to radeon, should allow simpler DSM also proper ATRM handling v10: add ATRM support for radeon BIOS, add mutex to lock vgasr_priv v11: fix bug in resuming Intel for 2nd time. v12: start fixing up nvidia code blindly. v13: blindly guess at finishing nvidia code v14: remove radeon audio hacks - fix up intel resume more like upstream v15: clean up printks + remove unnecessary igd/dis pointers mount debugfs /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch - should exist if ATPX detected + 2 cards. DIS - immediate change to discrete IGD - immediate change to IGD DDIS - delayed change to discrete DIGD - delayed change to IGD ON - turn on not in use OFF - turn off not in use Tested on W500 (Intel/ATI) and T500 (Intel/ATI) Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

Works is underway to provide support for R6XX, R7XX and newer hardware (radeon from HD2XXX to HD4XXX). drm/fbdev: Make skip_vt_switch the default KMS drivers really should all be able to restore their display state on resume without fbcon helping out. So make this the default. Since I'm not entirely foolish, make it only a default, which drivers can still override. That way when the inevitable regression report happens I can fix things up with a one-liner plus FIXME comment that someone should fix up the suspend/resume code in that driver. But at least all new drivers won't be broken by accident as soon as you turn off fbcon because "suspend/resume worked when I tested it". v2: Keep this for radeon because of commit 18c437caa5b18a235dd65cec224eab54bebcee65 Author: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> Date: Tue Nov 14 17:19:29 2017 -0500 Revert "drm/radeon: dont switch vt on suspend" Thanks to Michel Dänzer for pointing this one out. drm/radeon: introduce kernel modesetting for radeon hardware Add kernel modesetting support to radeon driver, use the ttm memory manager to manage memory and DRM/GEM to provide userspace API. The kernel will also perform security check on command stream provided by the user, we want to catch and forbid any illegal use of the GPU such as DMA into random system memory or into memory not owned by the process supplying the command stream. vga_switcheroo: initial implementation (v15) Many new laptops now come with 2 gpus, one to be used for low power modes and one for gaming/on-ac applications. DIS - immediate change to discrete IGD - immediate change to IGD DDIS - delayed change to discrete DIGD - delayed change to IGD ON - turn on not in use OFF - turn off not in use Tested on W500 (Intel/ATI) and T500 (Intel/ATI) Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

drm_gem_object_put_unlocked(gobj);
drm: revamp framebuffer cleanup interfaces We have two classes of framebuffer - Created by the driver (atm only for fbdev), and the driver holds onto the last reference count until destruction. - Created by userspace and associated with a given fd. These framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed. Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that the driver has done this already. Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers. Three functions are involved in total: - drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference. - drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup manually). - drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs, should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last reference is gone. This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers (by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move drm core code around and update the lifetime management for framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers alive by locking mode_config.mutex. I've also updated the kerneldoc already. vmwgfx seems to again be a bit special, at least I haven't figured out how the fbdev support in that driver works. It smells like it's external though. v2: The i915 driver creates another private framebuffer in the load-detect code. Adjust its cleanup code, too. drm/radeon: introduce kernel modesetting for radeon hardware Add kernel modesetting support to radeon driver, use the ttm memory manager to manage memory and DRM/GEM to provide userspace API.
