CMA: generalize CMA reserved area management functionality Currently, there are two users on CMA functionality, one is the DMA subsystem and the other is the KVM on powerpc. They have their own code to manage CMA reserved area even if they looks really similar. From my guess, it is caused by some needs on bitmap management. KVM side wants to maintain bitmap not for 1 page, but for more size. Eventually it use bitmap where one bit represents 64 pages. When I implement CMA related patches, I should change those two places to apply my change and it seem to be painful to me. I want to change this situation and reduce future code management overhead through this patch. This change could also help developer who want to use CMA in their new feature development, since they can use CMA easily without copying & pasting this reserved area management code. In previous patches, we have prepared some features to generalize CMA reserved area management and now it's time to do it. This patch moves core functions to mm/cma.c and change DMA APIs to use these functions. There is no functional change in DMA APIs. headers: untangle kmemleak.h from mm.h Currently <linux/slab.h> #includes <linux/kmemleak.h> for no obvious reason. It looks like it's only a convenience, so remove kmemleak.h from slab.h and add <linux/kmemleak.h> to any users of kmemleak_* that don't already #include it. Also remove <linux/kmemleak.h> from source files that do not use it. This is tested on i386 allmodconfig and x86_64 allmodconfig. It would be good to run it through the 0day bot for other $ARCHes. I have neither the horsepower nor the storage space for the other $ARCHes. Update: This patch has been extensively build-tested by both the 0day bot & kisskb/ozlabs build farms. Both of them reported 2 build failures for which patches are included here (in v2). [ slab.h is the second most used header file after module.h; kernel.h is right there with slab.h. There could be some minor error in the counting due to some #includes having comments after them and I didn't combine all of those. ] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: security/keys/big_key.c needs vmalloc.h, per sfr] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/e4309f98-3749-93e1-4bb7-d9501a39d015@infradead.org Link: http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/head/13396/ Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@infradead.org> Reviewed-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Reported-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> [2 build failures] Reported-by: Fengguang Wu <fengguang.wu@intel.com> [2 build failures] Reviewed-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Wei Yongjun <weiyongjun1@huawei.com> Cc: Luis R. The logic introduced by commit b5be83e308f7 ("mm: cma: align to physical address, not CMA region position") has the cma driver calculate the offset to the *next* alignment boundary. In most cases, the base alignment is greater than that specified when making allocations, resulting in a zero offset whether we align up or down. In the example given with the commit, the base alignment (8MB) was half the requested alignment (16MB) so the math also happened to work since the offset is 8MB in both directions. However, when requesting allocations with an alignment greater than twice that of the base, the returned index would not be correctly aligned. Also, the align_order arguments of cma_bitmap_aligned_mask() and cma_bitmap_aligned_offset() should not be negative so the argument type was made unsigned. In previous patches, we have prepared some features to generalize CMA reserved area management and now it's time to do it. This patch moves core functions to mm/cma.c and change DMA APIs to use these functions. There is no functional change in DMA APIs.
