drm: Nuke fb->bits_per_pixel Replace uses of fb->bits_per_pixel with fb->format->cpp[0]*8. Less duplicated information is a good thing. Note that I didn't put parens around the cpp*8 in the below cocci script, on account of not wanting spurious parens all over the place. Instead I did the unsafe way, and tried to look over the entire diff to spot if any dangerous expressions were produced. I didn't see any. There are some cases where previously the code did X*bpp/8, so the division happened after the multiplication. Those are now just X*cpp so the division effectively happens before the multiplication, but that is perfectly fine since bpp is always a multiple of 8. @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ i9xx_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ ironlake_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ skylake_get_initial_plane_config(...) { ... - FB->bits_per_pixel = E; ... } @@ struct drm_framebuffer FB; expression E; @@ ( - E * FB.bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel / 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - E * FB.bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel >> 3 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - (FB.bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] | - FB.bits_per_pixel + FB.format->cpp[0] * 8 | - FB.format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + FB.format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; expression E; @@ ( - E * FB->bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel / 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - E * FB->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - (FB->bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] | - FB->bits_per_pixel + FB->format->cpp[0] * 8 | - FB->format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + FB->format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ struct drm_plane_state *state; expression E; @@ ( - E * state->fb->bits_per_pixel / 8 + E * state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel / 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - E * state->fb->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + E * state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel >> 3 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - (state->fb->bits_per_pixel + 7) / 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] | - state->fb->bits_per_pixel + state->fb->format->cpp[0] * 8 | - state->fb->format->cpp[0] * 8 != 8 + state->fb->format->cpp[0] != 1 ) @@ @@ - (8 * 8) + 8 * 8 @@ struct drm_framebuffer FB; @@ - (FB.format->cpp[0]) + FB.format->cpp[0] @@ struct drm_framebuffer *FB; @@ - (FB->format->cpp[0]) + FB->format->cpp[0] @@ @@ struct drm_framebuffer { ... - int bits_per_pixel; ... }; v2: Clean up the 'cpp*8 != 8' and '(8 * 8)' cases (Laurent) v3: Adjusted the semantic patch a bit and regenerated due to code changes Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> (v1) Link: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/1481751140-18352-1-git-send-email-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com

mm: kill vma flag VM_RESERVED and mm->reserved_vm counter A long time ago, in v2.4, VM_RESERVED kept swapout process off VMA, currently it lost original meaning but still has some effects: | effect | alternative flags -+------------------------+--------------------------------------------- 1| account as reserved_vm | VM_IO 2| skip in core dump | VM_IO, VM_DONTDUMP 3| do not merge or expand | VM_IO, VM_DONTEXPAND, VM_HUGETLB, VM_PFNMAP 4| do not mlock | VM_IO, VM_DONTEXPAND, VM_HUGETLB, VM_PFNMAP This patch removes reserved_vm counter from mm_struct. Seems like nobody cares about it, it does not exported into userspace directly, it only reduces total_vm showed in proc. Thus VM_RESERVED can be replaced with VM_IO or pair VM_DONTEXPAND | VM_DONTDUMP. remap_pfn_range() and io_remap_pfn_range() set VM_IO|VM_DONTEXPAND|VM_DONTDUMP. remap_vmalloc_range() set VM_DONTEXPAND | VM_DONTDUMP. dma-buf, drm, ion: Propagate error code from dma_buf_start_cpu_access() Drivers, especially i915.ko, can fail during the initial migration of a dma-buf for CPU access. However, the error code from the driver was not being propagated back to ioctl and so userspace was blissfully ignorant of the failure. Rendering corruption ensues. Whilst fixing the ioctl to return the error code from dma_buf_start_cpu_access(), also do the same for dma_buf_end_cpu_access(). For most drivers, dma_buf_end_cpu_access() cannot fail. i915.ko however, as most drivers would, wants to avoid being uninterruptible (as would be required to guarrantee no failure when flushing the buffer to the device). As userspace already has to handle errors from the SYNC_IOCTL, take advantage of this to be able to restart the syscall across signals. This fixes a coherency issue for i915.ko as well as reducing the uninterruptible hold upon its BKL, the struct_mutex. drm: revamp framebuffer cleanup interfaces We have two classes of framebuffer - Created by the driver (atm only for fbdev), and the driver holds onto the last reference count until destruction. - Created by userspace and associated with a given fd. These framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed. Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that the driver has done this already. Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers. Three functions are involved in total: - drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference. - drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup manually). - drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs, should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last reference is gone. This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers (by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move drm core code around and update the lifetime management for framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers alive by locking mode_config.mutex. I've also updated the kerneldoc already. vmwgfx seems to again be a bit special, at least I haven't figured out how the fbdev support in that driver works. It smells like it's external though. v2: The i915 driver creates another private framebuffer in the load-detect code. Adjust its cleanup code, too.
